Aren't dog years shorter? May be he's calling us SOB's ie we are all dogs..... In which case his human years will be 7 of our dog years!

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

Without 1st hand insight to exactly what discussions are going on, it's impossible to comment on who is stopping / delaying who. However, as per this thread, when there is so little if any sensible, consistent product evolution / improvement (tested, documented updates, universal application of...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

This seems to be problematic as in effect seems to try and bypass the seller's obligation for goods to meet normal 'sale of goods' conditions. It seems to me that selling a 'beta' product doesn't work as there is little recourse and what you have actually bought isn't even clear especially as...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

While we have strayed we way off lights, I realise that I don't know if there are any cases where an accident (Tesla or other) has been attributed to poor performance of automatic systems. I'm actually surprised Bjorn hasn't had a meltdown previously over auto lights. I guess this time it is the...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

Ever since my 'bug report' bubble got burst with the realisation that in effect, it did nothing, I have seriously doubted that there is much if any 'learning' going on, especially in the UK. At one time, it did appear that when I returned home from a journey with many AP disengagements, my...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I'm not so convinced of that beyond a few years. The supply system should be better placed to predict and cover demand fluctuations at scale than individual consumers. Indeed, part of the renewables landscape needs to be energy buffering to a much greater extent than at present. We will know if...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Find a grain of truth, determine how far you can distort it without becoming indefensible, assess monetary value of running story based on extreme extrapolation..... Call it news.

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

We are getting some way off lighting issues, but in the context of lighting depending on interpretation of vision I guess we are still in the frame somewhere! Your point here is totally on the mark. You can't have 3 vision sensors capable of giving you contradictory data based on the same...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

I don't think anyone would set out to use an unreliable sensor. Also there are many ways of viewing unreliability. B Pilar cams are obviously unreliable... or may be undependable..... based on fogging / condensation problem. But the out put could be unreliable / undependable due to insufficient...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

Like make a yoke do a BETTER job than tried and tested steering wheel? The danger is that you use the quest for the impossible as a selling tool to differentiate your product or mask shortcomings. I agree you should not be scared of attempting the seemingly impossible when there is a clear...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

I'm not sure that this is always true, although it certainly could be in some cases. A great sensor for certain situations might be useless in others.... hence the attraction of complimentary sensor suites. But when their outputs disagree - as they may well do in circumstances where you you...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

Takes me a year (or much longer) to commit to a plan of action after endless research.... while knowing that even then there are no guarantees. But changing cars to (effectively) just any other car that people happen to be selling (also over priced and new not an option when supply is...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

Meanwhile........ The Your post reminds me that compared to most if not all alternatives, Tesla excels at long distance road trips. Even when I was first coming to terms with phantom braking, whacky lane and speed changes, wipers and other niggles, driving through France to Switzerland I...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

Which I would say is a vestige of the original 'selling using the reputations of previous buyers' approach. I agree, Tesla is to EV's as Hoover was (still is?) to vacuum cleaners. They seem to be very focussed on less is more because Tesla says so. I still can't get my brain to like the Cyber...
  15. Battpower

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

Tesla certainly do a good job of putting across a monumental level of indifference about most user and media coverage these days. (In fact they make it feel as though they would rather not have to deal with customers at all!) But they USED (imo exploited) the early owners to build the brand...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

So what has been the main purpose and who the main beneficiary of those updates? I've never counted mine, but by the time you get over 10 updates either your car should be wicked awesome perfect or someone is just tinkering around!
  17. Battpower

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

A lot of hunting around. Got 3 dealers all with demonstrators to move on. I got the last model before they deleted the embossed front grill. So I guess, just luck. But since I got it I've hardly driven the MS. And regarding auto wipers ... I just realised I haven't used the wiper control in the...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

My 2017 40kwh Zoe cost me £17.5k brand new and that was one of the few with no battery rental... Owned out right. My dad has it now. 100% gives 185 miles still. I didn't get another Zoe because I got 64kwh Kona Premium (demonstrator) for £25k and the spec left Zoe in the shadows. Range is real...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

FWIW I had 2 x 22kwh Zoe and a 40kwh. Headlights not very bright but auto beam switching never caused me much hassle. I used auto and it worked. With MS it's more trouble than it's worth to engage auto.

Gives purpose to TMC? And perhaps slightly more seriously it helps people work out what their own opinion is by allowing others to challenge.

And the rest! Sounds like Plaid and other refresh models are not exempt from many similar issues.... basic stuff not working as it should.

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

I'd expect that a fair few people making informed observations here already have other EV experience / ownership, and certainly experience of other ICE cars that are drawing from the same technology pool. And life itself is quite a compromise when it comes down to it. But we make of it what we...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

There's a basis for quite a lot of agreement then! :) Of course this isn't anything like an intentional strategy on Tesla's part, but it sure looks like it could be one... Set the goal posts astronomically (? impossibly) high, claim technical superiority based on those aspirations that you...

bjorn nyland's test of tesla vision

Every time there is a thread like this one, the words that go through my mind are 'whose car is this?' That's the whole problem with OTA that is pretty much down to Tesla to do as they please with. I think the topics have been pretty well covered except latest Vision issues. But for me (2019...

^^^^^ this! Almost impossible to plan anything. A lot seems to be down to luck.
  28. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

That's why I don't get why people keep talking about vehicle to grid connections. The main high electricity demand during the time that ev's are typically plugged in is (will often be) other people charging ev's! And the problem for many ev’s is finding time to be plugged in to charge. If you...
  29. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

You'd think so. But DNOs don't get much if any benefit from us making loads disappear intermittently from their network and also have a strange way of looking at your inverter's ability to ensure export remains at any particular level.
  30. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Kw or kwh? 2.4 Kwh (of stored energy) is still very useful as a small buffer to keep you running off your own energy during intermittent sun. But also consider what the max rated power from battery is. I have some old Pylontech batteries that are 3kwh (energy stored) but can only output 1.5kw...

    Does anyone wave anymore?

If FSD cars had an FSD badge, you could give a distressed, head shaking gesture to empathise with each other's chagrin! (Just thinking about sharing that 'belonging to a select group' feeling!)

"Cheap" EV runaround... what would you get?

Mine would be happy waiting for the same! But not sure it aligns with my idea of a budget run-around to throw hay bales and horse tack in the back of! An odd-ball that might suit some buyers (especially if you are VAT registered) is the Zoe van. They are rare as rhs but basically a regular car...
  33. Battpower

    Does anyone wave anymore?

I will own up to clinging on to that slightly self satisfied smugness with a nearly undecernable hand movement to acknowledge another S. But I don't expect a return acknowledgement.
  34. Battpower

    Does anyone wave anymore?

I was thinking the same today! So many Tesla's on the road you'd get RSI! I wonder if new owners are missing out on part of what made Tesla 'special'?
  35. Battpower

"Cheap" EV runaround... what would you get?

I think it is important to try and consider overall cost and likelihood / possibility of having no cost effective repair option and having to just scrap the car. The 3rd party repair options that are available for ICE obviously not established for EVs. I have had a few Zoes and currently have a...
  36. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Forgot to mention that (especially in summer) the picture becomes even less clear if you have a diverter to heat water and have to decide how hot and when to heat. I regularly end up with a tank of very hot water that just sits and cools down over night. If you have a heat pump, you could opt...
  37. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I agree 100%. Almost to the point that this thread could be 'is dealing with DNO's worth the hassle to install solar PV?’ The only genuine concerns I can come up with for DNOs are 1) Multiple solar inverters make load disappear from the network, and I read that DNOs get paid based on energy...

Tesla owes me money (Trade in more than deposit)

Sounds like it could be via Amsterdam too!! :D Took me 3 months, 2 aborted car purchases and many hours calling 'Amsterdam' just to get an invoice so I could pay Tesla something. Seems like never ending 'tighter standards and improved systems' only result in more hoops for the little guy to...
  39. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Could you potentially really export that amount of power? I don't want to export anything if can avoid it. I'm leaning towards an off-grid with grid support configuration as a way of taking DNO out of the equation at least as far as any export. Down side is that my inverters have to be sized...
  40. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I have dual immersun diverters which can dump up to 6kw excess into thermal store and using the export margin on different devices is how I try and control their behaviour. Yes, I agree. If you really have nothing else to do with a small amount of export power, then charging the car even at...
  41. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I have had the same issue and lived with it for 8 years! It is inevitable that multiple ’generators' on the same side of the current transformer can't identify the difference between solar power and battery power once it's converted to ac. I'm just about to start trying to come up with a work...

Have you received FSD you paid for?

The hardest braking my car does is usually phantom braking. Not sure counting those events would produce the insight you were hoping for! I quite often get a message displayed about AEB being applied for my safety or such like..... without any actual braking or slowing. Usually when I'm passing...
  43. Battpower

    AP/phantom braking.

Not to dampen the mood, but much as I want / long to see progress, I'm not convinced. (I have MS R LR Raven in UK). The first and most drastic pb event I had (not long after getting the car) was coming out of a long tunnel with overhead signs, long shadows, bright sun. Really scarey. Very harsh...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

as acceleration goes down? As speed goes up, drag and other losses go up..... so power needed to maintain given (higher) speed gets higher. But that's likely not very significant compared with power needed to increase altitude or (heavy) acceleration.
  45. Battpower

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

So presumably the 350v batteries only have significant potential drawback / high current stresses that would potentially cause components to over dissipate under pretty heavy extremes of load?
  46. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

..... which makes no sense at all. My battery inverter is set to allow zero export. Its role is solely to power local loads. It is true that during a transition phase it could dump a few kilowatts to the grid for a few milliseconds while one inverter ramps down, but seriously, nothing that...

    B-pillar cameras fogging up?

It's a good thing that we don't have to worry (in the UK) about FSD being compromised by fogged cameras.... Even with some airflow, warm cabin air against cold glass will often condense. For me this is the first issue I had driving back from initial pick up, and an ever present reminder that...

What if there is damage in Demo car purchasing

You should check if it's in Tesla's new or used inventory. It may have changed since I bought my MS R, but my car was ex demonstrator and sold as new car with new car warranty. (That was in UK. May be different elsewhere). I would check specifically for an individual car. In my case, the...

Strange regen braking problem - shaking

Does the issue being discussed manifest as a vibration, shaking or surging? If related to SoC and regen which sounds plausible, my expectation would have been for an slower oscillation linked to vehicle mass, rather than a relatively fast oscillation that might be described as a judder or...
  50. Battpower

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yes. Not sure if all support it, but I expect they do. Often with different modes depending on time of year. During winter you probably want scheduled charging at night to support any PV during daytime. In summer you probably want all available battery capacity available to store PV energy...
