Original owners of 2012/2013 Model S w/ 85 kWh pack: Has your main pack been replaced?

You wont get much more than that. I traded in a "14 with autopilot and 63k miles for 26k. Its ashame that tesla buyers are few and far between someone missed out on free supercharging, updated MCU2 and free premium connectivity.

2014 Tesla Model S 85kwh rear wheel drive with approximately 62,000 miles. Battery charges to about 248 miles at 100%. The car is in great condition with no issues. Full bumper to bumper warranty until 3/23/21 and battery and drive unit warranty until Dec. 2022. I owe money on it through Police...

Original owners of 2012/2013 Model S w/ 85 kWh pack: Has your main pack been replaced?

I appreciate this post because I have a 2014 that will be out of battery / DU warranty within a year. I really like this car but I am scared to death of an out of warranty battery replacement. As much as I want to keep it, my gut tells me to sell before the warranty expires. I live in NJ so I...

Most Reliable Model S Handles? Gen 3 vs Rebuilt

gen 3 from Tesla are going to be the way to go. There are less moving parts and the known issues seem to have been eliminated. The caveat is that Tesla needs update the software every time one gets replaced. Its no longer 100% diy with Gen 3's.

Have the 2021 Model S refresh exterior door handles been redesigned?!

New door handles are much simpler and less prone to break, but they require a software something to get them to operate properly. Meaning... good luck DIY door handle replacements.

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

Same bump here too, it is avoidable if they take extra time/care but, quite simply, they dont.

    Purchased 1st Tesla

The used Tesla buying experience is not the greatest, so my suggestions is to expect the worst and when it all goes well you'll feel great. For me (2 years ago) it was almost exactly 4 weeks from the date of deposit to the date of delivery (AZ to NJ). I did have a sales advisor contact me...

I replaced my own battery heater

I would hope that Tesla would remotely redeploy software if you request.

    Remote app and seat warmers

The seat warmers are so weak in these cars that they are probably turned on but you cant feel them until you sit on the seat for a few minutes and the heat transfers through the layers of seat material. Mine acts the same way and that's how I have rationalized it in my head. After pre-heating...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I wonder if the software upgrade from v8 to v10 is the reason this worked or would just any software re-deploy allow for a new chargeport to sync to the car. Anyone know this?

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

@wk057 Thanks for all the info. I have one of the affected batteries in my 11/14 MS85. Im running 2021.4.6 now (new MCU2 upgrade) and was wondering if my issue of not being able to charge to 100% over the past year was a result of the issue you discovered. My range hasn't really decreased...

Model S dead, "Vehicle may not restart"

If you decide to have the 12v replaced, I would have Tesla do it. Im a DIY person but I've read of guys replacing their 12v and having problems that need a tech to correct. Its only about $200 well worth it to avoid headaches with more errors. Just a suggestion, I never thought I'd think...

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

So sorry, Im stupid you are not. Either way, yes I forgot that one thing and it turns out its the only thing they messed up. Long to short still very happy with upgrade and anyone on the fence I'd suggest to do it even if only AP1 and you have the means. Oh and dont forget to check the door...
  20. R

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

Damn-it... just found that my doors won’t unlock from the app since my upgrade. I figured that since everything else worked, before I left the SC, that the remote door unlock would work. WRONG!

Cost to charge at home in Florida

I'd park in the garage and tell them to leave me alone, I only charge at superchargers. Here in NJ it costs .16 cents a kwh (delivered). I can only assume its less money down in FL, as NJ has some high energy costs. 85 x .16 = $13.60 (0% to 100%).

Can all data/setting be saved by service during MCU replacement?

They can migrate data from one MCU to another MCU. I think what it comes down to is the experience of the tech and how much time they have to spend on the repair. Also, the condition of the old MCU memory may play a factor. If its bad they cant move the data, but if its still decent they can...

12v Battery Options - Which is best?

I'm a DIY person and after reading some stories about issues after people changed their own batteries, I'm definitely just going to pay the price and let Tesla change mine, when the time comes. If you search you will find some of these stories.

Will fit parts from MS 2017 to MS 2020?

I have no basis for my answer, but I think they fit. There have not been any significant body changes to the Model S except for the front bumper, hood and rear bumper. Doors, windows, etc... should all fit any model year. I would do some more research though because I'm not 100%.
  37. R

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

If the $2500 price was due to the HW3 bundling, I'd say that all owners that paid that price who upgraded their AP1 cars have a solid refund case on their hands.

I was going to write the same exact thing!!!! Should be a 10 minute job (after all the screws are taken out).

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

Your opinion matters, but my AP1 car MCU user experience is so much better now. No more lagging when scrolling through playlists, no more random reboots, snappy menu changes, almost instant map refresh, very fast navigation routes... Im sure I could go on. No its not only worth it if you have...

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

Mine was pretty quick, 8am - 12pm and done. Stereo still sounds good (premium audio). Everything looks much crisper, brighter and smoother scrolling. MCU2 is very fast compared to MCU1. I have 2 issues: 1- It appears there is some type of screen burn in on my IC screen. I can see a ghost...

To MCU2 or not to MCU2?

Car is in for upgrade right now. I'll update when I get it back. I'm posting now to ask is there anything I should definitely check before driving away with the car? Anyone have any issues after the upgrade that needed fixing?

Funny how they dont show the actual unplugging and pulling out of the headlight. The two worst parts.

Tesla online used car purchase MAJOR ISSUES

Two years ago in March I had a similar situation. There were 3 or 4 cosmetic issues with the car that I was not happy with. When I decided to take the car anyway they set up repairs for some of them but not all. Overall I would say I was satisfied but NOT happy. The difference with my...

Any nose-cone'ers tried XENARC NIGHT BREAKER LASER headlight bulbs?

I thought I would be cool and do the whole change up by removing the front bumper. Its actually easier and faster than jacking up the car and removing the wheel and pushpins etc... WRONG. I broke a bracket on the light housing and the headlight housing is actually almost impossible to remove...

Any nose-cone'ers tried XENARC NIGHT BREAKER LASER headlight bulbs?

I agree that removing the bulbs was a huge pain in the ass. Who has hands that small to rotate the ring in the housing?
