Car Bricked - Master Charger to be Blamed?

If the charger has a fault in the HV portion of its circuitry that would prevent the contactors in the battery from closing, meaning that you can't "start" it and the HV battery can't be used to maintain/charge the 12v battery. That would lead to the 12v battery getting drained in a few hours...

While possible, I would think highly unlikely, as the driver was able to climb into the back seat after the crash.

Too much interference? Maybe one of the reasons Tesla is trying to abandon radar?

Actually the radar is too short range to be effective for that. The cameras would be more useful. (At least from everything I have seen.)

Too much interference? Maybe one of the reasons Tesla is trying to abandon radar?

Maybe the proliferation of Teslas, and other vehicles with radar, is one of the reasons Tesla is trying to abandon radar? https://cleantechnica.com/2021/05/09/av-radar-dont-cross-the-streams/ Similar interference can happen with LIDAR as well, but generally will be less of a problem.

    Leaking 3-way valve

Heat usage, at least for the cabin, has nothing to do with these valves or the coolant system in the Model S. (They use an electric PTC heater in the cabin.)

    Post Your Tesla Solar Layout

Well it actually says "Backup Gateway 2". Is the normal one that has been installed been called a "Backup Gateway 2" or just "Gateway 2"? I wonder if there is any difference. I wouldn't think so, but you never know.
  15. M

    Post Your Tesla Solar Layout

Where are you seeing that you are getting a Gateway2? The Powerwall+ eliminates the need for a separate gateway. (While also limiting your expansion capabilities.)

Applying options strategy 'the wheel' to TSLA

Don't assume that they would set up a "stop loss" order for you. It could drop to $200 before they get to liquidating your assets. But unless you invest in options, or short the stock, you can't end up owing more than you borrowed, plus interest. But many people end up losing more than they...

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

I don't think we have an idea how many of the Bolt fires followed AC vs. DC charging. But my point is that there may be some issue/design in the cells that causes issues because of time spent charging rather than the rate of that charging. Or it could be a BMS management/thermal control issue...

    Chevy Bolt Recalled

It was a 2019, but only had the temporary fix. He had just gotten a notice for the final recall fix. Yeah, I suspect that this may cause them to go back to the drawing board on their recall. It seems like they were concentrating on a module imbalance being the problem, or maybe just a symptom...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes, and no. They have a ton of credits, but they can't sell them unless they have a willing buyer. And those buyers may try to buy them on the cheap since Tesla has so many. So they have to wait until an OEM needs them bad enough to pay a reasonable price for them. (At least in terms of the...

Model Y should be $6500 cheaper in Canada

Tesla earns up to 4 ZEV credits per vehicle sold in a state participating in the CARB program. I think the credits cost $5k/each but sell for less than 50% of value. So Tesla could be selling up to ~$10k worth of ZEV credits per vehicle. (Assuming there is a demand for them.) Last transfer I...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I'm pretty sure that Ford said that 60% of MachE production was going to Europe this year. So obviously they think they need the credits there more than here. Of course they can buy cheap credits from Tesla here, they can't buy credits there. (Since they didn't join a pool.)

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

I'm not sure they can really apply the Tesla fire stats to the Bolt. Entirely different battery type and protections and all... And really fires caused by high speed collisions really shouldn't be included in any of the stats, or should be broken out, as they are an entirely different animal.

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

I don't think it would be that bad, just like it isn't for Hyundai. More than likely they would pass it off as something like: "look at what happened when we out sourced something so critical; this is why we started over and developed our Ultium Battery technology." I never said they were the...

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

Based on how aggressive GM is with sending notices, and how easy it is. (People can just set to hill top reserve, or target charge level, mode on their own if they didn't want to bother taking it to a dealer to get the software updated.) As far as I know GM hasn't had to report recall stats yet.

2012 Model S P85 Battery Replacement Receipt - sharing is caring

Look at the life of a car in the NE where they rust into oblivion and they really can't be repaired without replacing the frame and body and lots more. They tend to go to the scrap yard long before the engine / transmission fail.

    Chevy Bolt Recalled

I wonder if this Bolt EV had already had the charge to 90% or less "fix" applied: https://www.tiktok.com/@ramkumarram206/video/6957861393085271302?is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1 (Asking since Hyundai determined that a software fix wasn't good enough for the cells they got from LG.)

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

Bad assumption. The Powerwall+ includes the Powerwall and Solar inverter in that 50A connection. I wouldn't expect anything on that spec sheet to be applicable to a stand-alone Powerwall install. (Like what you are getting.)
  43. M

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

Our best guess at this point is that 8 gauge wire and 40A breakers will be required. But until Tesla releases the official specs and install guide we really don't know. (And I doubt that your installer will foot the bill for more expensive materials than what was required in the specs that were...

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

I would think it would be best to stick to what Tesla calls the products. So: Powerwall 2: Stand-alone Powerwall product pre-November Powerwall+: Integrated solar inverter/gateway/storage system Powerwall 2 plus: Stand-alone Powerwall product post-November with higher output power capability...

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

Ok, he is talking about something entirely different than this thread. Maybe what he is talking about will be called a Powerwall 2.2? Or Powerwall 2.1+? Or...
  46. M

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

You won't be getting a Powerwall+. The Powerwall+ is an integrated system for the Solar/Gateway/Powerwall all-in-one. So if your Powerwalls aren't being installed at the same time as your solar you aren't getting a Powerwall+.
  47. M

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

No. Different product intended for simplifying solar installs that have a Powerwall.

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

eMMC chips don't display anything, they are just a storage device. Tesla doesn't develop eMMC chips, they buy off the shelf components.
