    CCS Adapter for North America

I have actually developed with CCS. The electromechanical interlock is most definitely required. Show me a production car anywhere that doesn't have such a device on it's DCFC connector. Once the vehicle detects that current has stopped flowing it will release the interlock. Depending on...

    CCS Adapter for North America

Yes, the lock is only required for DC. If you open an AC circuit, the current stops flowing 120 times a second (in the US), so this generally helps break any arcs, whereas on DC this is not the case. Having an explosion/fire start if someone unplugs the connector doesn't sound like good...

    CCS Adapter for North America

FYI: The CCS standard requires a motorized connector latch be engaged before charging can start. Does the Setec even have a motorized latch? If not then it's dangerous. If the cable were pulled out while under 200A there could be an arc-over and explosion. This is why CCS, CHAdeMO and...

Gurgling bubbling sounds from my 85D

Sorry, Air in the coolant has NOTHING to do with cabin heat. Cabin heat on all Teslas except Model Y and the newest 3's with the heat pump all comes from a PTC electric heater that directly heats the air.

$2K aftermarket mod to turn AWD to P (0-60 in 3.1)

They were definitely binning. Early inverters, even with binning were still a big crap shoot: Now ST delivers excellent parts. So much so that they can pull 6 of them out of the non-P units for cost savings. If people don't believe it, or otherwise think that it's a good idea to do this...

$2K aftermarket mod to turn AWD to P (0-60 in 3.1)

For the record, I have absolutely nothing to do with this, and I don't recommend it. It's appears it's these guys: Groupe Simon André There are a lot of reasons why, but the #1 is; You void your warranty. If it smokes your inverter, you are on the hook for thousands. Also, when Tesla sends...

    12v Switched?

For those that want to tap the high-current 30A feed for the audio amp, it can be tapped in the trunk (right rear) look for the silver box, and the wire is a fat red (3mm). It's also present at VCRight in the right kick panel on the large 6 pin connector. (X054) It's symmetrically opposite my...

So Tesla recently started shipping cars with DLC3 ports (aka OBD II). They provide both switched and unswitched power for this, so hopefully it's a more reliable tap going forward. Model3-obd2 by Ingineer posted Jun 1, 2020 at 8:13 PM Also, the premium audio amp in the right rear trunk has a...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Look at the PCB. Only 2 connections (pins are bundled together for extra current carrying). There would have to be a gate pin, plus associated gate driver circuitry. Also, FETs/IGBTs don't conduct when you put a meter across them. These do!

Yes, Tesla will program keys, but you first have to create a Tesla account (if you don't already have one) and transfer the car into it by submitting a picture of the Title or valid registration, and a copy of your DL/ID, and the name on it MUST match the name on the title/reg. Then they will...

No way to know the exact cause for sure without diagnostics, and you aren't saying enough about symptoms, like are the contactors even closing? Without diagnostics, you are relegated to expensive parts swapping. If the contactors are closing, but you still have that alert, then I'd guess the...

US Tesla Wall Connector + 3P3W 240V Delta power - FAIL

Yes, as long as you don't have any existing faults, then it will work. You can test before you bother by taking a 240V incandescent bulb and connecting the 3 legs one-by-one to it with the other side of the bulb to ground. If the bulb stays dark, you are in luck!

US Tesla Wall Connector + 3P3W 240V Delta power - FAIL

It's not code in the NEC to have a non-bonded setup AFAIK. Delta setups such as this *should* have one of the transformers bonded at it's center tap. Sometimes the bond will fail and create the situation you seem to have, so check to be sure that's not the case. Could be a simple fix to just...

I think this is just refrigerant boiling inside the evaporator. This will happen even in the winter, because when in auto mode the HVAC will use the A/C a tiny bit to condense the humidity out of the air to prevent internal fogging on the cold glass. (normal function on all cars) The lack of...

To be clear; the Superchargers are effectively dumb devices (12 Model S Gen-2 Chargers in a box). The BMS in the car 100% controls them. So when Tesla disables supercharging on an unsupported vehicle, which is not only salvage, but also grey market cars (when cars are moved out of their home...

Diagnostics. It's the only way to know what's going on. I've never seen a compressor die unless it had mechanical damage, or someone put the wrong oil in. You cannot make the compressor run by putting voltage in, it needs a special PWM signal and LIN communication on the Diag line.

HVAC A/C error, pressure loss, refrigerant type?

Depending on its intended sales region, the air conditioning system is filled with R134a or 1234yf refrigerant. Refer to the label on the RH frunk trim. (U.S. and most markets use standard R134a) If oil needs to be added to the system, use only POE ND-11 or equivalent. This is vitally...

I added a 3rd video: Here's the playlist: Model 3 - YouTube As time permits, I'll add more. There indeed are zero fuses on the 12v side. All circuit protection is performed solid-state, which in practice means a transistor (MOSFET) is used to switch all the loads, and the body controllers...

It removes 12v power to the contactor drive, thus preventing the contactors from being closed, so opening both positive and negative connections inside the HV battery. Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

Tesla also leaves crazy amounts of logging turned on hammering the eMMC flash continuously. They don't care if they have to replace a few Tegra modules because of it. Most of the time these days the car is out of warranty, so they bill YOU the ~$4k cost of replacing the ENTIRE MCU. On my...

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

There is no need to remove the SIM card. If Tesla disabled anything, they have already done it. Applying 12v and removing it suddenly again and again is very bad for the eMMC flash. It's like pulling power to a desktop PC while it's on. Each time it's spinning the roulette wheel...

Tesla considers that part of the SCCM and they just want you to replace it as a unit. There is a calibration procedure, but has to be done using Toolbox or CAN. (I can do this remotely) Be very careful, if the clockspring goes too far, it will be destroyed, so if your angle is off quite a...
