Supercharger - Tel Aviv, Israel (8 V3 stalls)

This site is actually 6 stalls. Can we get the title updated? Also, since there are now V3 Supercharger cabinets designed with 3 outputs instead of the previously typical 4 output, has anyone confirmed which version this site actually used?

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3 12V battery

Using an Aux battery and a DC-DC charger like the one linked below is sure to work well. The 20A version would also work if spliced into the 30A subwoofer circuit instead of connected directly to the PCS terminals under the seat. https://www.renogy.com/12v-dc-to-dc-on-board-battery-charger/

Interesting... Sunrun is allowing ESS to support the Grid during peak time

Give me $1.00/kWh exported during Peak Days and I will sign up. They can take up to 33% of my total storage. That's about 8.5kWh per day. The Peak Day Pricing program, which is a separate thing, has up to 15 days per year. That would work out to $127/year.

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

I would assume that DCFC from low SOC to moderately high SOC, like 10%-75% would be more stressful on the whole system than AC charging, even though the AC would have been charging for many more hours. Yet, we've never heard about Bolt battery fires after DCFC. Tesla, on the other hand, did...

received EV -> EV2 transition letter

It really depends on your usage pattern. The defining feature of an EV is that it has very high consumption that can be scheduled very easily. Heating and cooling is probably the largest household load but it is not easy to shift completely into Off-Peak hours. If you are a significant net kWh...
  13. M

received EV -> EV2 transition letter

EV-A really was better for solar + EV customers. You got like double the EV kWh for every kWh you generated. EV2-A does not give you that benefit any more because the bulk of your generation is Off-Peak too. It is extremely unlikely that anyone has negative Peak or Part-Peak net usage without...

Adding 2nd Powerwall 2, problems with overloading main panel bus bars

I am not an expert, but my understanding is that the Generation Panel does help with this problem. All of the generation goes in a new 200A panel. 30+30+40=100A. That panel is connected to one set of lugs on the Tesla Gateway. If your main panel is converted to a sub-panel, it is connected to...

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

The Hyundai batteries are not the same. The LG batteries in the Hyundai cars and buses are from a LG factory in China. That factory produced batteries that had a specific mechanical defect. Bolt EV batteries are either from South Korea or Michigan and don't share the same defect.

Best Practices for Vehicle Charging with Solar + Powerwall

I use Advanced - Balanced Mode. My solar is small, so I don't have any extra stored energy to charge cars from the Powerwalls. I use all the Powerwall energy to avoid Part-Peak and Peak consumption from the grid. The cars charge overnight from the grid.

Adding EV charging into my PV/ESS setup

Control wires are only needed for Gen2 Wall Connectors which are not manufactured any more. If doing it today and load sharing was needed, then yes, do the control conduit. However, when Gen3 gets load sharing, it will be over the wireless network.

Adding EV charging into my PV/ESS setup

Even if you can fit 5 cars, you don't need more than 3 charging stations unless you have more than 3 drivers in the household that would all need to charge at the same time. You still need to do a load calculation to see if you can really provision 3 independent 60A circuits. There may be some...

Adding EV charging into my PV/ESS setup

If you don't have any cars yet, don't bother to install the charging equipment. Run the circuits to the appropriate locations and just put wire nuts on the ends of the wires and put a cover plate on. 60 amps to each garage bay is a great solution. In the future, you can drop down to put a 50A...

    HOA Charging Station

Ok, that makes sense. You are not allowed to make any modifications to the common area without a plan approved by the HOA. The next question is whether your electrical service is easily accessible to your parking space. By that I mean to ask how long the conduit will be from the closest portion...

California Utilities Plan All Out War On Solar, Please Read And Help

I am not accusing corruption - that would imply that someone was actually "on the take". I don't think that anyone is actually taking money for favorable treatment. I just don't see that the overall decisions are in the rate payers' interest over the utility shareholder interest. That is what I...

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

Discuss it with the installer before they do the work. They should be able to contact the right people at Tesla to make sure the design is correct for the system going forward. However, it may require modifying your permit.

    HOA Charging Station

Exactly. His garage could be attached to his unit and within his titled envelope. In that case, he doesn't need HOA approval. However, the garage could be in a separate structure and assigned or even titled, but not served by his electric meter. His situation was not precisely described.

received EV -> EV2 transition letter

To me, the Powerwalls are just reducing the penalty of the EV2 schedule. So far this Spring, I have had only inconsequential Off-Peak solar export. My Powerwalls have been able to absorb almost all of my Off-Peak generation. As generation continues to rise and my 3pm-midnight usage stays...

    HOA Charging Station

If you are paying to install your own charging station in a garage that is under your exclusive control, not in the common area, and connected to your electric service, IMHO, the HOA has no basis to decline your request. In fact, in that situation, I would apply for a permit with the City...

PG&E does not archive the actual tariff sheets. However, they do have rate history. So, you can see the price changes, but not the other rule and schedule changes. Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

The Efacec ones are easy to identify because it's the only one with the holsters on the sides of the pedestal. All the rest are on the front.

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

One clever idea would be to design a "Green Meter Adapter" that incorporated the grid disconnect switch. I think that would simplify things a lot. Taking the power directly from the meter and redirecting it completely eliminates dual feed limitations imposed by the main panel.

    fast charging at grocery stores

Exclusively fast charging at grocery stores would work in my neck of the woods. All of the circled stations are fast chargers in the same shopping center as a grocery store, or literally hosted by a grocery store. These are mostly EVgo but there is an EA site and a Supercharger. Actually, the...

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

Efacec made the most problematic EA chargers, but I haven't seen any evidence that EA has dropped Efacec as a manufacturer. I think they just had Efacec update the hardware to eliminate or reduce the problems.

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

The solar is not really what I was talking about. I was mostly talking about the grid connection to the whole system. I just don't understand how you can have a useful whole home backup system that is only tied in with a 40A or 50A breaker in the main panel. If you were able to take the main...

How does a certified electrician make this mistake?

Running separate 120V loads off double pole breakers is very strange. The only time I have seen that is when you have separate circuits on a duplex outlet like a dishwasher and disposal. Even then, it is common trip, not actually a double pole breaker.

1 in 5 electric vehicle owners in California switched back to gas because charging their cars is a hassle, new research shows

Business Insider is ridiculous. They are talking about the same UC Davis study covered by Electrek below. Duh, I wonder why....? https://electrek.co/2021/04/29/study-why-some-electric-car-owners-gas-reasons-surprising/

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

I believe the solar inverter and Powerwall inverter are still separate. Therefore, grid connected Powerwall discharge of 7.68kW does not apply to solar production exceeding that value. When the grid is down, the solar would have to be curtailed in order for one Powerwall to keep charging at...

PG&E NBC / kWh going up every month?

If you have so much generation, you should just use Self Powered instead of TBC. My solar is tiny, so I really don't mind paying for Off-Peak electricity. I certainly don't want to charge my car during Off-Peak from battery. Edit: maybe not Self Powered if you want to get max Peak credits...

PG&E NBC / kWh going up every month?

Now that my solar system is generating more than my 3pm-midnight usage, it is charging from Surplus Solar in Balanced Mode. It is even discharging in the morning, which kind of irks me a little.
  43. M

PG&E NBC / kWh going up every month?

I think you do. It should appear on the blue bill each month. It is in the history summary for reference. I'm not completely sure how it works because I'm on NEM1.
  44. M

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

It looks to me like the Gateway 2 and 7.6kW Solar Inverter are combined into one enclosure that matches the width of the Powerwall. This makes wiring simpler and could eliminate a redundant communication module and processor.
  45. M

PG&E NBC / kWh going up every month?

The specific tariff components that you pay as NBCs are a normal part of everyone's rates. You just can't avoid them by offsetting with your own generation. Since non-NEM customers don't generate, they just pay them normally with every kWh that they use.
  46. M

PG&E NBC / kWh going up every month?

NBCs are a "feature" of the NEM2 tariff. Anyone on that tariff, solar or powerwall only, would pay those charges. If you don't have net metering, or you are on NEM1, you don't pay those charges.

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

The spec sheet posted above has a bunch of UL approval numbers. Do we know if this Powerwall + has the new UL certification that allows less restrictive installation according to the upcoming Cal Fire code? @Vines ???
  48. M

PG&E NBC / kWh going up every month?

NBCs are also billed for every kWh you take from the grid, not just your net kWh. If you look at your black and white bill, you will see tables "Current Month Meter Information" and "Billing TOU Energy". The Channel IDs that end in A are your grid take quantities and your Channel IDs that end...

4 kW Tesla solar install (with existing solar) and Powerwall addition and what I learned

Supercharger - Mojave, CA (LIVE 6 V2 stalls, V3 + Urban expansion in progress Apr 2021)

It's doubtful. The cables used on the Urban pedestals are thinner, so the max current is limited, just like the power split on the V2 cabinet is fixed at that lower max current.
