    powerwall time based control working?

it also helps if you have your car at home all day to suck up the excess at this time of year but that's not always possible. Yesterday was a good case in point. Wife did some washing, ran it through the dryer, put on some bread to bake and then gave up and let it flow out to the grid!

    powerwall time based control working?

so, now that we're back in the vicinity of needing to use time-based all the time now, we've got the opposite problem from when I first started the thread. We almost always find the PW is close to 100% in the morning. Never lower than 80% really. And this means that some days, we're giving to...

    Intelligent Octopus - Undercharging

I've read between 20 and 80. Have you got a definitive ref for 50% specifically?
  4. kuruma

    Intelligent Octopus - Undercharging

That's all fine and dandy... unless you need to charge to a level under 50% which the Tesla app won't let you do (inexplicably). Since switching to IO, I've enjoyed the fact that, if we want to, we can stop charging at, say, 35% if that's all we need.

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

just got IO this week (after a 2+ year wait for smart meters to be installed... don't ask). So, can anyone save me the time it'll take to read 38 pages of this thread by telling me if there's anything relevant I need to know about using IO if I have a Tesla wall charger and a Powerwall 2...

Solar PV - Bird Protection Yes/No?

we had a bunch of cowboys risk their life to put mesh around our 16 panel array after pigeons nested in two years running and drove us crazy at 4am in the summertime. Even woke the kids up and they'd sleep through armageddon breaking out usually. £450 I rang our solar installer and told them it...

Anyone had to recharge the aircon yet?

I changed my cabin filters simply cos after three years it was about time. didn't notice a huge improvement in AC performance but I can tell you that it's a fairly simple job to do. Takes about 15-20 mins. and a pry tool is highly recommended.

first time at an campsite electric pitch

that's bonkers they won't let you sleep in a car that's designed for sleeping in! In the Lakes, we stayed at Hillcroft something or other near Pooley Bridge. Noisy though, and the warden didn't seem to be able to make anyone shut up after curfew so def not recommended if you have young kids who...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

Turns out they were all dead (Hartshead Moor east). The map actually routed us up to the next junction and back down to the other side of the services to the ones that were working.... and then another uturn at the junction below that. Better than nothing but a pain. No signage at all to...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

Anyone know if Hartshead Moor East Supercharger is actually working?. The map says it's out of action but i don't trust the map entirely seeing as how it didn't even list the West bound chargers on our trip down and tried to direct us to the east bound via a u turn at the next junction.

    Octopus Smart Meter Experiences

so after waiting 2.5 years for the install, the only thing that's worked since has been the gas meter. The electric is not sending them anything. They said it's usually the other way round. They've apparently put me on a list to get sorted but they've given me no date, presumably because no...

    Creaking suspension

Reported this issue about three weeks ago (on our Sept 2019 M3) and have mobile service scheduled for the 20th of July to replace just the LH control arm. Issue fixed for free under warranty. all went smooth as anything. Plenty of charge for being out and about and 100% departure for the trip home. Induction hob and mini fridge great additions to the camping experience. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Speed signs not detected by Teslas?

Our M3 not only reads signs on the roads we're on, it reads them off certain side roads we pass regularly in our neck of the woods and in one notable instance, off the back of a lorry we were following 🤨

30 hour wait for recovery. Lessons learnt.

I would concur that they are absolutely great at responding. Mr H replied to say that So for those of us with such systems installed, no stowed battery is needed. If anyone wants an A23 battery, I'll happily send you my brand new useless one. Just PM me.

@Overworked, you sound a bit overworked mate. @MrT3 that is exactly what I was trying to achieve and was following Frugal Tesla's video where he pops one using a booster pack and the car unlocked. Even if I go ahead and tape a 23A to my now flappy tow cap, I'm concerned that even if the 12V...

Energy tariff choices, smart meters general discussion

I feel for you. Sorry to say but you might find yourself in for a long wait. I had my smart meters fitted last week, nearly 2 and a half years after I first requested them from octopus. The reason for us was that the signal on typical smart meters interfered with signals from RAF Fylingdales so...

30 hour wait for recovery. Lessons learnt.

So on the back of the info in this thread, ages ago I bought a 23A 12V battery to stow under the tow cap to open the frunk if I needed it. Only got round to try it out today and found that it doesn't work at all. Apart from the fact that I also snapped a tag on the tow cap getting it off which...

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

yeah... I agree. it's the rare person who has solar to burn in winter in the UK. As I mentioned above, from late Sep to late March, we usually need to have the PW on time-based and let it charge from the grid overnight on our E7 night rate. But when that is 21p a kWh on our current tariff, TEP...
  22. kuruma

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

ah right... that's super helpful. Makes sense and I can follow your working. As @Gatsojon says, it isn't enough to prevent making TEP the most economical tariff for us at the mo even if we have to give up our deemed export.
  23. kuruma

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

I should add that when we don't have enough solar, we charge the PW every night on time-based mode on our E7 rate which is more than double that of the TEP.
  24. kuruma

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

Thanks for the reply. Not sure what you mean about the filling/discharging costs. £37 per year per kWh of what?
  25. kuruma

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

2021 figures for our current E7 tariff compared to TEP and Octopus Go: Under TEP, we'd sell at 11.38p, right? As we got into the FIT only in 2018, we currently sell export at 5.57p and generation at 4.1p so TEP gives us significantly more income from approx 2000 kWh annual generation even if...

nice one... making the most of that tow bar! I've got two kids under 6 to transport too so being able to cook on an induction hob not only keeps things compact but is a lot safer with kids around. ... needless to say, campsites with no electric pitches aren't going to feature highly on...

thanks for flagging this. I called LV who we're currently insured with and after a lengthy consultation with their supervisor the lady I spoke to confirmed that because it's members of the public we wouldn't be covered. I've contacted ZapMap to have the charger removed.

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

so, taking your helpful formula of generated - consumed, I end up with a negative figure of £253. I used our PW's record of entire house consumption for 2021 (7132 kWh) and solar generated (4907 kWh). Last year, we drew 3225 kWh from the grid i.e. we used 3907 kWh of our solar to fund our...

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

We've had our PW since Dec 2019 so we're pretty familiar with it and the app tells us exactly how much power the house has drawn over that time. We're on a 5.2kW array and pretty much off grid from April until September. We usually have surplus solar from June onwards and particularly during the...

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

ah yes, they are available. Thanks for correcting me on that. However, the cheap unit rate is only 4p cheaper than TEP and the cheap hours obviously very limited. The standing charge is nearly 50p. Both Go and Intelligent make TEP look like a no-brainer to me, particularly as there's no exit fee.
  35. kuruma

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

The TEP seems to be the only reasonable tariff left for those of us who are only now getting smart meters installed. Octopus Go doesn't seem to be available anymore. Our night rate is just shy of 20p and our standing charge is over 40p. The PW tells me that in 2021, for example, we took just...

    Anyone else on ZapMap?

ha! well those last two posts of scaremongering sound far worse than my thread on what happens if someone just rocks up and starts charging up for free on your drive while you're away. Got lots of "are you kidding, that's never going to happen" type replies.
  38. kuruma

first time at an campsite electric pitch

we've checked they're OK with charging and they are. Don't want to draw too much power anyway so looks like our 13A will be fine. Thanks for the info.
  39. kuruma

    Anyone else on ZapMap?

good things to consider... to mitigate that, we're only allowing them to charge when we're here and are handling the charger ourselves. They have to contact you to arrange it anyway so you can still decline if you feel it's inconvenient or you actually need the charger yourself.
  40. kuruma

    prevent access to wall charger

You set the rate you want when you register it. At the mo it's nominal: we're charging whatever they draw plus 25%. If it's popular, we'll probably up that.
  41. kuruma

    Anyone else on ZapMap?

Noticed that you can advertise your home charger for hire on ZapMap and a few days after it appeared on the map have already had two requests for charges from visitors to our seaside town. Anyone else hiring out their home charger or thinking about it?

    car seat in the front?

That's exactly my point. You do have to put it in Park... and if you have done, why doesn't it stay there when you return to the car hours later and want to add/remove a car seat and change airbag settings? It all comes down to programming. Instead of the programming logic being IF car is in...

So, now that I know I can flip the breaker whenever we want to disable it, and that the issue isn't one to "sweat" about, as our friend from Maryland advised, I decided I might as well advertise the thing. Within a week of being on ZapMap, we've had two requests to charge from it from visiting...

So... two and a half years after requesting a smart meter from Octopus, we're booked in for next week. it's not Gen 3... We've had it for nearly three years. I can't see a separate breaker for it having just had a look. We have a powerwall so I wonder if it's integrated into the Gateway. I'll check that later. Thanks for the tip
