    Tesla Semi

Is the entire battery pack under the cab, or is some of it stored vertically behind it too? ~10 Model S packs is a lot of space

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think no one knew what his position is at Tesla or what his name is

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Couple people asked who was on stage with Elon and I didn’t see a response. Just read this on Twitter. Interesting bio in the thread. His name is Dan Priestley. Currently a Senior Manager of Semi Truck Engineering, leading development and business units. He’s been with Tesla for over a decade.

it's pretty amazing how Tesla can get so many people this excited about a semi truck

Tesla trying to convince people waiting for 1/1/23 to buy now?

Elon and Tim probably talked about Apple advertising on Twitter. eg why they stopped and what it will take for them to restart.

The EU is warning Elon that Twitter could be banned in the EU if it doesn't abide by the EU's rules on content moderation.
  15. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

I think there are two distinct concepts that are using the term "free speech": 1) 1st Amendment style free speech regarding the government 2) What I would call "open speech" - the ability to say whatever you want without fear of being banned Seems like some people think of the first one when...
  16. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

Free speech hasn't left our democracy - the 1st Amendment is still there. What private companies allow/forbid on their platforms has nothing to do with free speech, it's about making their users and advertisers happy so they continue to support the platform.
  17. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

How is Apple a monopoly? Consumers can buy Android phones if they don't like Apple's ecosystem. What Apple is doing with iPhone isn't any different than what Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft do with their video game consoles.
  18. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

that is a good counterpoint. I guess the question is whether Twitter becomes worse or better from a brand safety perspective. I think at this point they are taking a wait and see approach. I don't think it has anything to do with Elon's claims about "free speech"
  19. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

because some of the ones that have bailed mentioned "brand safety", and I don't think porn and extremist web sites/apps fall into the "brand safety" net.
  20. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

The advertisers bailing makes sense to me. They don't advertise on porn or extremist web sites/apps, so they are waiting to see if Twitter descends into a not safe for work cesspool, or if it becomes basically what it is now but with more features.
  21. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

At this point, I have no idea what he means by "free speech". Constitutionally it means you can speak out against the government without retribution. But for private companies, they can allow/forbid whatever they want.

    FSD discussion

There are many reports (YouTube, here on TMC) of serious interventions that are needed even with the latest software. Some people have great experiences, and some are having not so great experiences. In order to get reliability needed for robotaxi, they'd need months of virtually no...

    FSD discussion

I think FSD is making great progress, but I think we're still years away from robotaxi level of quality.

    Off topic galore

I hope Elon wasn't serious about doing a phone. Total waste of time and money.
  25. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

Talking politics is like trying to convince a Red Sox fan to become a Yankee fan. "You know you're right, I think I will root for the Yankees now. I never looked at it that way before!" ie it is pointless
  26. Chunky Jr.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

At this point, expectations are so low that if Tesla can deliver more than a couple dozen cars in China with margins > 0%, it will be seen as a huge win for Q4
  27. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

No, no. I'd love another 500 pages of what is actually free speech and random political rants
  28. Chunky Jr.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

if it really is easy to manipulate TSLA, it seems at this point there would be a lot more money to be made manipulating it up instead of down
  29. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

What are they talking about? Tesla is wildly profitable. The fact that they don't know that is pretty lame.
  30. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

I'm not sure if they are in a position to do that yet. Elon owns all the shares. I assume they would have to recapitalize the company and hand out options in that, which is not something they could have done with such short notice. But you're right, RSUs/options would be much better all things...

    Elon & Twitter

If he would have said "those that leave will get 3 months severance. Those that stay will get a 10% raise" he would have had very different results. Reward the people taking a chance

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

So if we have a recession, and inflation gets back to normal, it seems like the Fed would lower interest rates to combat the recession which would be good for stocks.
  33. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

I'm assuming "Silicon Valley". Twitter is in San Francisco and some people don't consider that part of Silicon Valley

    Elon & Twitter

They know what it was like working for Elon pre-Twitter. My question is whether Twitter will change him a way that is detrimental to Tesla and SpaceX.

    Elon & Twitter

If Twitter implodes, I wonder if Elon will have to sell more TSLA to pay back investors/loans.
  40. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

I've seen some people claim that Elon bought Twitter to intentionally destroy it. To me, that line of thinking is insane because if he wanted to do that, he'd just pull the plug on the first day and shut it all down. No way he'd go through all this thrashing. I think he knows he has a very loyal...
  41. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

It's hard to conclude anything other than Elon has absolutely no idea what he is doing at Twitter. Hopefully the damage to his reputation doesn't cause employees at Tesla and SpaceX to worry about what could happen there

    Next Tesla CEO/COO

I think it will be someone already there rather than hiring someone from the outside. Zach does seem like a logical choice.

    X.com Social Media Platform

I think a big problem to solve is micropayments so you can pay, say, 1 cent to read an article or watch a video instead of having a subscription to the particular site. Perhaps Twitter can facilitate something like that. Part of the Twitter sub is getting $N worth of credits that you can use for...
  44. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

It's going to be interesting to see how Twitter evolves over the next 6 months or so. It will probably be a very different experience a year from now, hopefully much better. I think Elon has botched the transition, but I would like to see him prove the naysayers and haters wrong.
  45. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

Similarly, there are probably lots of engineers at Twitter who really like the product/company and want to help make it even better. Those are the people you want leading the charge for Twitter 2.0.
  46. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

OTOH Tesla and SpaceX are among the top 2, if not the top 2, desired destinations for engineering graduates. They seem to find it inspiring even if it makes money for the richest person alive. As an engineer, having a green field to play on and innovate is a lot more inspiring than doing...
  47. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

I couldn't disagree more. I've been in Silicon Valley for 30+ years and have seen people happily work 80+ hour weeks for a product/company they believe in. A team of 10 great engineers who are highly motivated can do more than a 500 person team of mediocre people that don't care.
  48. Chunky Jr.

    Elon & Twitter

I've heard similar stories from people at Apple about Steve Jobs.
