Windshield, OEM or Aftermarket. Progressive Ins denied OEM.

That's odd. Had my windshield cracked a year ago, progressive paid for OEM. They originally ordered a non-OEM, the shop told me (Safelite), I said nope, called progressive, they said they'd pay for OEM -- no questions asked.

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

Alright, I'll give you another one - we have 2 Tesla's and 1 plug. So this scheduled departure would only work for 1 of our cars. Unless I: buy a 14-50 slitter or install another 14-50 plug (which likely means upgrading my whole panel from 200A to 400A), etc. Not worth the cost. That's...

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

Not really. What about those of us who don't have consistent work schedules? Or the dozens of other scenarios. I get that there is a workaround, and in the grand scheme of things it's not a catastrophic change, but no, it's not "a thing of the past".

    Dead battery heater

In the OP is a screenshot. $445 Parts, $185.25 labor. ~$650 USD with tax.

    Dead battery heater

I did a reboot, mine was persistent. And it was there a few days in a row before getting fixed. I am handy, but I already had it done since I wasn't sure what it was until I got to the Service Center. I'm surprised about the huge price fluctuations for the same defect.

    Dead battery heater

lol (I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at Tesla claiming this awesome 8 year warranty and then excluding nearly everything under the sun from being a warranty item except a dead battery and a dead drivetrain). And no, I asked.
  7. Max*

New Battery warranty terms for new Model S

Why do they specifically call out the original 60kwh model? Seems like they should also include that all the other batteries had unlimited miles previously (or not include the comment about the original 60)?

    Sudden Unintended Acceleration

I've had something similar happen too, approaching a red light. Ended up half way into the crosswalk. Felt like the car accelerated before I slammed on the brakes. Scary AF. But no, it wasn't SUA. As I was approaching the red light, my car hit a pot hole with one wheel and the regen fully...

    Sudden Unintended Acceleration

That's your HVAC (heating or cooling of the car) and potentially battery heater. That little line shows you how much power the car is using at the moment, not necessarily acceleration.
  10. Max*

Warning: Acceleration Reduced Car May Not Restart

I had the same warnings, with the same dashes lines. It was the battery heater, $500 IIRC parts/labor. Nothing to do with the 12V in my case, though my car was driveable...

Do I just sue Tesla? New record for getting Powned

If the car is under warranty, this is probably true. Otherwise they're just hoping you don't fight back, I had to put up a stink to get my broken charger back that I paid for out of pocket.

    Onboard Charger Died

FYI - My non-working 40A charger sold for $150 + $100 shipping on ebay. I started at $500 OBO + shipping. It wasn't just a blown fuse though.
  13. Max*

    Onboard Charger Died

Yeah, they tend to try to keep parts. Did the same thing to me until I brought up the local law requiring them to return my part, they had to get the service manager involved, but all ended well. If you stand firm, they'll back down (on this).

Thanks, yeah, I googled and saw that.

It's time for Tesla to provide MCU2 and HW3 upgrades

For free? For everyone? Call me impressed. Just googled. Seems like it's only a small group of people, and you can't request appointments for it, you're randomly chosen if you're in for service (or is there more to it?). I guess time will tell if they decide that's enough good PR and stop...

It's time for Tesla to provide MCU2 and HW3 upgrades

Has Tesla (not EM on Twitter) explicitly said they'll upgrade the FSD hardware? Unfortunately, due to the way Tesla does business, I don't see them providing FSD retrofits.

    energy gauge popped in.....

While what you're saying is factually correct -- @faughtz is correct too, this is due to a recent firmware upgrade. His battery wasn't full, see below. And it was relatively warm. This was due to a recent change in the firmware with Tesla increasing the temperature at which regen kicks in...

I am posting this in every youtube Tesla topic I come across: Range loss, charge gate etc

I have no trust in Tesla anymore. But for those of you who think that by creating YouTube videos or trying to get this out to reporters that anyone will care -- are most likely wrong. Remember when Tesla said the P85Ds are 692hp and they turned out to be 550hp? Remember when Tesla said that the...

    Power steering issue

Sounds like the u-joint (universal joint). Been there, done that. ~$500 to repair (unless you're under warranty). Does it happen at roughly 90 degree increments? (the tight-loose-tight feeling in the steering wheel)
  20. Max*

    In praise of slower supercharging

I agree with the general sentiment: I'm not buying another Tesla with the expectations to use it for long distance travel. The supercharging stations build-out has been slower than the increased demand from the Model X and Model 3 - there are lines (not even at peak travel times) up and down...

Choose my Tesla: Comparing True Cost of Ownership

Don't buy a car in hopes of vaporware. It's unlikely that true FSD will come out anytime soon. If you're willing to pay extra for the added features of the "FSD", that's different. Also, having both an S and a 3, I wouldn't get an S again. It's been the most unreliable car I've owned, and I get...

Wildly inaccurate range on long trips

70D. Dual Motor. Same car as the OP. Can I get rated range all 4 seasons? No. Can I get rated range driving in the city? No. But, on the highway, with proper weather, and even with speeding, yes, it's possible - in attainable and realistic driving conditions. I can't compare the 70D to the 90D...
  24. Max*

Wildly inaccurate range on long trips

Again, this isn't true. You can get 240 miles on a charge in attainable and realistic driving conditions. But those conditions are rare. If it gets hotter/colder, you lose range. If it rains, you lose range. If you don't preheat the battery, you lose range. If you speed, you lose range. etc...

Wildly inaccurate range on long trips

Yes, it's always dead on. Doesn't matter the season. Useful for knowing how much to supercharge too.

Broken Brand New Tesla, and what will happen next (updating Dec 16th)

No worries, I was in your shoes, and Tesla service was just as clueless 2 years ago as they are now to this problem. Lots of frustration on my part too. These are the parts that have been replaced, they had to replace the MCU. Visit 1 (didn't fix it) CABLE, RF, LIFTGATE, RKE+GPS (1045967-00-B)...

"Connectivity board", let me see if I can dig up the service ticket to give you an exact part number. Read this -- GPS problem - my car is alledgedly off the coast of West Africa :) Also, this - GPS Position Stuck??! And here's me having the same problem -- GPS acting up

Broken Brand New Tesla, and what will happen next (updating Dec 16th)

I had the EXACT same GPS issue and service was clueless until someone on TMC helped me and told me EXACTLY which part to replace. After I notified service, they spoke to their engineers and the engineers [supposedly] confirmed that the part shoudl fix the GPS drift. I had multiple visits too...

  30. Max*

Wildly inaccurate range on long trips

As mentioned, it's EPA range. Also, in winter your range will be a lot less than in the summer. Instead of looking at that, you can view the range in "trips" and that's very accurate as you've noticed. All of those (minus the climate control) won't do much. The usage is minuscule. Yes, it can...

Eh, the side collision avoidance isn't great. Lots of people have high expectations, and are let down. Never had side collision avoidance trigger on AP2 (yet). Though I think I've had a side collision warning beep at me... can't remember. Had it trigger twice on AP1, both times I was in my...

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

There are a handful of threads about the regen going on now (at least 3). But this comment is interesting, not sure if it's related to this whole regen issue or just the fact that you can't turn on the battery heater from the app anymore. Battery Heater Not Enabling via App If that's in-fact...

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

Mainly this, I like and got used to using single-pedal driving. What bugs me more is that it's not in the release notes "updated cold weather regen profiles", because I thought it was just me and something is wrong with my car (again...).

If full FSD is approved tomorrow what do you think the price of FSD option be?

Don't think it'll change until Tesla actually has both hardware and software that can do FSD.

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

I think that'd definitely part of it, and it could potentially be all of it. If the new threshold is 65F, it would also take longer to reach that threshold while driving to work (a few people here commented the regen never comes back during their commute, I'm in the same boat).

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

I was mistaken when I said I've been through 3 winters with my car. This will be my 5th winter. I'm glad we agree that this is speculation. It's possible, sure. But it's speculation until proven otherwise. Whereas the fact that regen was reduced/changed for some people is a fact. And I also...

My Model S: I've had it!

Serious conversation is that you bought vapor ware, for the most part. Will the current hardware get to FSD (not L3, but L5)? Unlikely. In one of your posts in this conversation you said that Tesla is very close (or something along those lines). How do you know? Do you work for them? Are you...

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

Mhmm... That's not a resolution, right? That's a workaround. Your workaround, is to use a feature Tesla introduced, to fix something they changed. Also, by that logic it falls under: Look, I get it, this is small beans in comparison to other issues. But it is happening, no matter how much...

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

Ah yes, now I remember. "This problem doesn't affect me, so it's a non problem" "Tesla didn't change anything, you're imagining it" "You're doing it wrong" "It was changed for the best, don't worry" "That's not a flaw, it's a feature"

Not having regen after the last software update sucks

I noticed reduced regen too, thought I was imagining it. It's definitely worse/more noticeable than the past 3 winters -- starts at higher temps and takes longer to get full regen back. It was obvious when it I drove out and the air temp was in the low 50s and I had reduced regen (no clue what...

Road tripping and charging to 100%

This point comes up time-to-time, but it completely irrelevant. If you need to get to 70% to hit the next charger (as the OP stated), will things being equal, you will always leave faster if you arrive at a higher SOC. In the OPs example -- If you arrive at 15%, sure you'll charge "faster"...
