    Passenger side swaybar link diy

Sorry if this is a dumb question - are these front or rear? Just bought new links to do this myself and didn’t realize I’d need that level of gymnastics to get them off.

12v battery died while main battery was fully charged and car plugged in to charger

Personally I think this explanation is complete rubbish - the usual sort of nonsensical garbage we should all be accustomed to receiving from front-line Tesla staff by now. Of course the car charges the 12v when it’s plugged in. There are ample stories from members here leaving their cars...

Anyone get an insurance quote from Costco recently?? $406 for 2 vehicles

I've recently dealt with them through two claims, including a particularly bad one that involved a drunk driver totaling our other car, and they have been very good. Frankly better than they have any right to be given the premiums they charge.

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

Warranty replacements are almost always reman/refurb. If they have a used one available to give you, you‘ll get it.

What's your predicted loyalty to Tesla whenever replacing current car?

I’m somewhere in between. I do like my car - it’s been pretty reliable and I still love looking at it and driving it. I’ve also given up on the FSD snake oil and have significantly less trust in the company today than I did 5 years ago. I’ll never again buy a Tesla based on the promise of any...

Model S Refresh Nerdy Nitty Gritty

Nobody has authoritative answers to any of this. There is rampant speculation in the Model S Ordering and Delivery section that you might want to participate in, but your guess is as good as anybody else's.

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

This sounded very suspect / excuse-y to me too. It seems less technical and more regulatory - or at least an interpretation of regulation that Tesla is using as a shield to not do something they aren't particularly interested in. Remember when they did P90D to P100D upgrades for a hot minute...

2nd Catastrophic HV Failure – Corrosion

What exactly are they saying is corroding? Your car is out of warranty now, the prior pack replacement really isn't relevant to the situation. I think your choices are basically replace the battery (either new or remanufactured) or scrap the car. Or talk to the Electrified Garage in NH and see...

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

While that's true, the extent of the "different" between the currently produced 100kwh pack and the new replacement 90kwh pack is basically "remove two modules". It's not like we're talking about some completely different boutique manufacturing line.

Trying to sell with new battery and mcu2

I think the new battery is probably worth less than you think it is. It's a nice talking point, and will be visible/apparent in things like observed range and degradation. That said, given it was replaced under warranty, it doesn't really change much from a long-term ownership perspective. The...

    Maximum battery charge level reduced

Most importantly, I’d determine if the “other factors” language was present in the warranty language in effect when the car was sold. I bet you it wasn’t. The warranty in effect when the car was sold is the one that matters. All of Tesla’s anti-consumer language added at a later date isn’t...

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

Totally agree. For instance, you’ve decided a $22,000 repair has no material impact on the value of a car because an automated algorithm on a website can’t accommodate it. That’s not a math failing (we’ll get to that in a minute), but a reason failing. As for the math, the proper way to...

Class 3 Tow Hitch For Model S

Even in 2021, slippery slope arguments are logical fallacies and not reasonable excuses for doing something stupid.
  26. ucmndd

Class 3 Tow Hitch For Model S

The reason is the car was never designed to tow 100% of its own weight like you’re suggesting, and the companies that manufacture receivers aren’t stupid enough to push the limits that hard in a way where THEY could be found negligent when YOUR ass goes and gets someone killed. The Class 1...

DU Replacement P85 wrong part number?

There is no difference in S85 vs P85 drive unit. They are the same part. In Model S speak there are large drive units and small drive units. All RWD cars have a large drive unit, “P” or not. AWD non-P cars have two small drive units. AWD “P” cars have a large rear drive unit and a small front...

14 Grand and no more range wtf

None of this is a valid concern. There is zero reason an 85kwh car from 2012 can’t take an 85kwh battery from 2015. A great many of them have.
  31. ucmndd

    Supercharging taking more than hour

It does not. The 70% language was included when the warranty changed from 8 years unlimited miles to 8 years / 150k. That happened years after OP's 2015 was produced. There is no language in the warranty that suggests this. Tesla maybe replaced a few packs back in the day on goodwill, but I...
  32. ucmndd

    Supercharging taking more than hour

Lol. Tesla has no escalation procedure. The car is capped and chargegated like basically all of the 85s. “Normal”.

    Supercharging taking more than hour

Start reading here. This is what is happening to your car. Tesla is not going to do anything for you. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/sudden-loss-of-range-with-2019-16-x-software.154976/
  34. ucmndd

    Supercharging taking more than hour

First, OP’s car has no warranty for degradation. There is nothing to “qualify” for. Second, OP is almost certainly referring to the estimated number of real world miles they think they can cover, not the actual EPA rated range the car shows at 100%.

Washington Post Tesla Fire hit piece

Some, certainly. Although I don't think anyone could claim "most", particularly with emerging issues like the LG Chem stuff affecting Chevy and Hyundai. My point is that regardless of cause, the reality of electrochemical energy storage currently presents a (IMO substantially) higher risk for...

14 Grand and no more range wtf

Tesla will only put a replacement 100 pack in a car that originally had a 100.
  37. ucmndd

Washington Post Tesla Fire hit piece

We already covered this. Keep reading my posts. That said: 40 cases in a million cars. What's the ratio for BEVs? An order of magnitude or more higher?
  38. ucmndd

14 Grand and no more range wtf

I don't think this was a reasonable expectation - certainly not one to take on faith when we're talking about $14,000.
  39. ucmndd

Washington Post Tesla Fire hit piece

Fair enough. "Gasoline cars don't do that" was clearly a poor choice of wording. But I don't think I'm out of line to suggest that the incidence rate of spontaneous parked combustion is orders of magnitude higher for BEVs than gasoline cars. It's just a reality of electrochemical energy...
  40. ucmndd

Washington Post Tesla Fire hit piece

These "facts" are meaningless when the "far less likely" BEV fires just so happen to occur when the car is sitting idle in a garage and will burn your home to the ground in the middle of the night. Gasoline cars don't do that.

Old 2016 Engineering car with new car warranty

I don't think there's any case where it would be legal for the odometer to be reset. To sum up most of the other good points that have been raised, I think the main thing to understand and seek clarification on is what warranty and other contractual terms will be in effect on the car. My...

Old 2016 Engineering car with new car warranty

Be careful, new versions of the warranty doc specify it starts when the car is “placed in service,” not when it’s sold. I’d get some very concrete reassurance from Tesla if you’re expecting to receive a full 4 year/50k bumper to bumper warranty.

2017 Model S 75 RWD vs AWD uncork eligibility

It didn’t happen. There is no post-factory RWD “uncork”.

    What's your S 75 range at 90%?

I also have the same car. Currently 220 at 100%, 198 at 90%.
  46. ucmndd

    What's your S 75 range at 90%?

You're not going to get anywhere with this. Your car has no warranty for battery degradation or real world range. The 30% figure is only for cars sold well after yours. In short, everything you've observed is "normal". The very first paragraph in the "Charging" section of your owners manual is...

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

Samsung authorized battery replacement service for a Galaxy (any model) is $50. Apple charges $70 for iPhone X or newer, $50 for all other devices. “Less than half” is getting into Apple-hater-hyperbole territory. ;) Of course there are ample third party Chinese garbage options for both...

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

I don’t think so. On the contrary, at that price I’d say it’s barely worth their time or effort from a financial perspective.

Speculation on the reason for the refresh delay

Why would Tesla bother to test new cars when the first ~100,000 customers do it for them for free?
