So what makes a Plaid + worth $30k more than a Plaid?

Teslas make most of their 1/4 mile performance in the 60 ft. Trapping at 155 ( or close to that IIRC the video) makes for a car that will pull muich harder beyond the 60 foot mark and not lay down with speed. That makes the car more useful to me on a daily basis. That said, maybe the Plaid...

    Who ordered S Plaid/Plaid+

Yeah, I remember thinking that when McLaren came out with the F1. There was no way I was going to pay $675K for a street car; just no way. Silly me :)

    Who ordered S Plaid/Plaid+

Likely much worse than CA as we are absolutely stupid about things like masks and social distancing...... Its crazy town around here. My comment was not a Tesla hating one (as anyone that has read any of my other posts would know) but more of a perhaps this is part of the delay be it on...

Perhaps the current delivery debacle is tied to Fremont's problems with employees and Covid.

    Tesla Model S Plaid+ gets a $10,000 price increase

I've been doing this Tesla thing since about 2012. Tesla is not like other companies but, taken as a whole, I'm not going back to the old standards. There is simply too much there there for me and much less of the traditional legacy baggage. Is Tesla perfect? Far from it. Just remember, we...

Vendor Rear Adjustable Camber Bushings for Model S/X Group Buy

Tesla constantly improves. Early on, I was chasing upper control arm bushings as I tried to move my arms from car to car. It would not surprise me in the least if the mega handling P+ (love being able to reuse that one) has an improved approach to rear suspension.

Negative Camber in the Rear and Expensive Tires

Actually, I tried it with the hardened solid ball style joints that Tesla ended up going to on their latests upper links, They were not adjustable but were done to remove excessive play in upright position. I found there was no need for adjustment as the longest link that would not require new...

Back and forth between a 3 and Y

2 cents added A good bud was in the process of ordering a 3 and I suggested he and his wife look at the Y. I went along for a test drive and was impressed. Ingress/Egress was much better in the Y Head room in the back seat was exceptional in the Y. Ride quality and handling were comparable The...

    Current Model S Regen/hill hold versus Y

Quick question to new Model S owners. A friend picked up a Y and I had a chance to drive it a good bit the other day. The regenerative braking was stronger than my S and the Y will come to a full stop and engage hill hold automatically without having the touch the brake. Has Tesla implemented...

Are solar panels really worth it?

A quick shout out to non left coasters (geographical, not political) .... Here in S. FL the sun shines a lot and FPL uses net metering with no additional charges. I was thinking of using a Model S battery to store daytime production for use at night until I learned that FPL would be my battery...

Blog Musk Touts 'Quantum Leap" in Full Self-Driving Performance

Entertaining Two things come readily to mind. First, there seems to be a lot of people discussing (from an authoritative stance) what one guy is marshaling a company to do. I think I'll just continue to watch what happens as, like landing two boosters side by side, it will either happen or it...

Vendor Rear Adjustable Camber Bushings for Model S/X Group Buy

7075 is lovely stuff but it suffers from inter granular corrosion. It is worth keeping an eye on this. This link is lightly loaded in comparison to the cross-sectional area (about a 1" thick part IIRC). It's actually a good weak link in an impact. just my two cents worth.......

    Another rejected model Y

Typical tech mindset. Do most of the job and ship it. Typical tech consumer mindset. Most of the car is out of this world so I'll accept the half arse panel fit. I took delivery of one of the initial build MS with less than perfect build quality specifically for the build quality of the...

Zero sat next to the 1000RR in the hangar.... The RR finally had to go as I was never riding it. No whirling crankshaft gyroscope to fight against. The zero flicks like a vespa. No billowing heat bloom to roast in at stop lights. All the torque all the time. The zero will not stretch the...

Considering selling early production P85DL (now P90DL)

One more thing.... Tesla is pretty much getting out of the CPO biz which really makes their "we do not do courtesy trades" position even stranger. My car had a left rear 1/4 so, if Tesla got it, they'd just wholesale it out the back of the lot anyway. Go figure.

Considering selling early production P85DL (now P90DL)

Paul8810, Nah, I'm likely fixed for life when it comes to a daily driver. There is just nothing like instant torque and no gas station visits. I've been hounding Tesla to do a courtesy trade as a bud wants the car. They have, in their infinite wisdom, chosen to pass on a new car purchase as...

    Carbon Ceramic Brakes

Wow. I'm glad someone that knows everything set the record straight. From my humble vantage point with only one car using carbon ceramic street car brakes (as opposed to the carbon carbon stuff used on "other" cars), they do not like having water on them. More than once I've had a catch your...

    Pics/Info: Inside the battery pack

I remember looking at the (TI I think) balancing chip and there were independent switches to separate resistors for bleeding off energy. Its not that much energy so the components are surface mount and reasonably small.

You didn't, did you? You just touched the third rail. You are actually talking about thinking through problems and doing sensible things. My friend, this is a tribal forum. There is ABSOLUTELY no place for that kind of hate speech here (or on the MB forum that takes a hard Trump position).

I believe Barra is a EE unless the MBA supersedes the engineering degree. The three phases of a start up are descriptive but I believe the third stage has moved away from a numbers driven endeavor to a value extraction endeavor and thus my comments about the term beancounter.
  40. lolachampcar

    Market politics

You do a disservice to all by using "beancounters". The term seems harmless. Instead, we have taken the best and brightest among us and incentivized them to do all the wrong things by extracting instead of creating value. Being an engineer, I have an instinctive feel for how the basic rules...

    Market politics

Lowered my car this morning with adjustable links: Key steps that ensure precision

Is there a slop issue with your links? I ask only because I have metal ones (made from threaded ball receiver elements found in old Porsche carburetor throttle linkages and the like) on threaded rod with jam lock nuts. My car's ride height is reasonably repeatable (say +/- 1/8 ")
