Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

rarely do I ever get spray on the side repeaters, how much the rear camera spray will affect things remains to be seen.... I guess if you are swinging into a driveway the side repeaters should see the object first and track it even if the rear camera is partially obscured. If you are reversing...

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

the previous image was also just one single frame from one of three cameras that will be used for occupancy network for the rear view. How it could work is that once one of the three rear facing cameras sees the pot it should then know it is there and continue to plot its position relative to...

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

I guess the only clues we have to go on so far are the published demos of the occupancy network, which we have seen in both FSD and Optimus thus far. Maybe I'm the optimist in the room, but i very much doubt it would have an issue with detecting bay window and pot. A tweak they may employ is...

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

I get that for the pillar cameras often in winter. The repeater and back cameras don't seem to have that issue though for me, which as I understand it should the source video for replacing USS in new vehicles, so that should not be a prohibitor to getting it to work. Would be good if they have...

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

Not correct. In UNECE territories FSDbeta needs approval at level 2. On NOA we do not even currently have automated lane changes or automatic highway departures, and many of the other features are detuned to meet UNECE regs.

HW4 will likely run mostly HW3 code to begin with so doubt risks are high. HW4 may also be needed for the Semi as there maybe need for additional camera inputs > than the 8 in HW3, My hunch though is that HW4 is not ready yet, so these Semi's will be HW3 upgradable to HW4 next year.

Your signature says you have a 2018 Model 3, which will have full USS and 8 cameras.... so you are not impacted by the USS removal.....I assume your preference is for other reasons?

    Apple Music integration…

They probably wouldn't do it, but if they are doing this for entertainment/music apps, then they could put FSD in the app store as well, so it follows you with every car you then get into/rent/or later purchase. One lifetime purchase needed. job done.

Yep, we are already starting to see this, Tesla have just opened first showroom in Thailand.. then there's the whole of South America, Africa... loads of export markets to go for. My main concern will be the bottleneck for logistics/capacity at Shanghai port for exports should demand...

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

I agree, straight forward. 10.69.3.1 point release is likely to validate some small changes to that branch in isolation before v11 branch.

    Elon & Twitter

Not great optics, and full of falsehoods, but it does neatly demonstrate why he had to sack some of them

So, what do we have here then? FSD in Europe?

Norway was flagged some time back as the next FSD market after Canada. https://insideevs.com/news/452324/canada-norway-next-to-get-tesla-fsd/

    Navigation can't handle ferries

I've noticed this in the channel tunnel too. trying to plan for battery stops before the crossing on the train makes charging calculations go pessimistic, and it sorts itself out once it gets a GPS lock on exiting the train at the other end.
  16. JupiterMan

So, what do we have here then? FSD in Europe?

Perhaps they need to test software across all car models and software versions for compatibility reasons and to meet needs of regulators?
  17. JupiterMan

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

I read that as the Autopilot AI software team, i.e. dealing with the NNs and self driving software. Dojo, Hardware, chip design, infotainment will be separate teams. looks legit to me.

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

Perhaps you should set up a thread on "why you should not buy a Tesla" and post for your life there, rather than hijacking this thread for your self admitted trolling and spinning it off down a road that now has nothing to do with the subject matter? I would like to know more about USS removal...

its an A180. I'm driving a Mercedes at the moment, whilst my model 3 is in for repairs. I can tell you, hand on heart, that the interior is awful. Absolutely awful. give me a Tesla every single day of the week. so not "insane" then? now you're just trolling?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

IIRC yes it does. In EU/UK for S/X models with old charge port it says adapter required (or similar), when navigating to a V3 charging station.

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

not sure what you mean by generation in this context. From a manufacturing/product/profitability perspective all of the above are still playing catch up to Tesla. the only differentiator is 800 volts, which from a customer perspective has very little real world advantage, if any, at this point...

He did not have to go. Kaparthy left of his own accord to go back to teaching, go back to programming and away from management side of things. Musk did not want him to leave and is on the record as saying he is always welcome back. Kaparthy has also hinted he would be open to going back at...

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

I agree, as a stop gap, this would be great to see, and would probably drive Tesla revenue in UNECE countries higher as well We can agree on something CWT3LR 😃 100% disagree with this bit though. Kaparthy has done a recent interview after leaving Tesla where he further praises the Vision...

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

Not really. In the USA any manufacturer can launch their own level 2 self driving aid themselves without any prior approvals, UNECE self driving rules do not apply. It is then down to the local regulator to restrict it or ban it (or whatever) after the fact. In the UK/EU it is the other way...

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

Like I say, the time delay to start the change, the speed of lateral movement and the time out are all UNECE rules. Tesla are following the rules..., bloody annoying rules I agree, but that is UNECE, not Tesla. If you look at NOA on US builds on youtube, it is much, much better.
  30. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

the UNECE rules on lane changes run to many pages, it is not just the confirmation, it is the lateral movement, the gap requirement, the timing to start the manoeuvre, the timing to complete the monouvre, the acceleration during the manoeuvre and much more. On an open motorway, yes less of an...
  31. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

timeout rules and how Tesla deals with them are not in the US build. so yes, I believe it is a UNECE restriction. How/why other manufacturers get round those rules is a question for them or the regulators, not Tesla.
  32. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

I was asked for an example. I gave one. lane changes (unconfirmed) is one of them. Current UNECE build with confirmed lane change, gap requirement and time out would be an inhibitor to Beta in UK I would think, difficult to see FSDBeta working in UK with those handicaps.
  33. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

L2 timeout issues are a UNECE thing. if others don't do them it may be they are not following the rules?
  34. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

No. I'm saying that the UNECE rules will not currently allow FSDBeta as a level 2 driving aid. There are functions with which a human drives quite safely which the UNECE will not allow to be automated.
  35. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

confirmation on lane changes, lane change abort, required gap to commence lane change, acceleration restrictions are others. Yes there should, but current limit is way too low and would kick out on a roundabout let alone a sharpish corner at surrounding traffic speeds. It should also not...
  36. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

correct. they need the reliability before getting full certification without a driver/robotaxi. However, in the meantime the UNECE regs over here do deny us even having the Beta.
  37. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

which is exactly why the current small print also says "these features are dependent on achieving reliability far in excess of human drivers as demonstrated by billions of miles of experience"
  38. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

As I recall it was always flagged as being subject to various things including regulatory approval, in fact it still is. caveat emptor.
  39. JupiterMan

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

whilst clearly much later than expected, at this point, for the EU/UK, all complaints can be addressed to UNECE complaints department....!

would be good to get some feedback from Tesla on extra revenue from EU sites having opened them up, how opening up increases any other revenue (eg grants/government incentives) and how that overall increase in revenue is increasing supercharger roll out over previous rate.

How do you know this? It may have been written already, all we know is it has not been released yet, and it has not been removed for anyone who already has it. I do wonder why some people complain about this, and whether it is down to personal preference for high beams as opposed to actual...

I do wonder about all of this. I did about a thousand miles last week, mainly in the dark and with some rain, using FSD/Autopilot for most of the trip. Headlights/full beam/wipers all worked great, needed to add a manual screen wash/wipe maybe twice - broadly similar to my previous non Tesla...
