Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I thought that until I owned both home battery storage & an electric car. In my opinion I can see why Tesla keep them seperate now. 1) if you don't have a home storage battery, you can't go off-grid. A solar array would have to be Grid-tied, in case your car wasn't at home plugged in during...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Our Sunpower Maxeon 3 (7.2 kWp) solar array (with scaffolding front, back and side of house), SolarEdge 5 kW inverter, Powerwall 2 (13.5 kWh) & Gateway 2 cost us £18,000 back in April 2021. At the time that was expensive.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Sorry to hear that. We have a Sunpower Maxeon 3 (7.2 kWp) system with 5kW SolarEdge inverter and it's brilliant so far. 18 months of perfect use. Installed outside in all weather on the North Facing wall (in the shade). No issues so far

    EV Charger Options

The 22kW 3 Phase tethered charger is the standard 'Black' MyEnergi connector. The 7kW 'Solar' charge cable is 'Green' and wall tied using a security wall bracket (doubles as a holder)... one at each end, and can be opened with a key to release the cable if needed. But with 15 metres I've got...

    EV Charger Options

Very similar setup to us. But I've gone a bit further with the madness... Driveway has outdoor 3 pin sockets on a digital timer controlled from inside the house. Perfect for Xmas lights, builders, and they're on the Gateway backup side so work during a blackout. A 3-Phase Grid-Only 22kW...

    Uk Blackouts & Octopus Go

The other pain is you can't even Isolate the Smart Meter from this cycling... as it's before the fuse isolator.
  16. PITA

    Uk Blackouts & Octopus Go

This is what I'm trying to get across... it isn't an argument, it's clear in their Terms & Conditions. This is what I'm concerned about if we have these rolling blackouts. It could be an absolute mess for Smart Meter owners. Octopus won't have the resources to start going through everybody's...

So Smart Meters DO NOT work then, during a blackout... they only restore saved data up until that point...
  20. PITA

    Uk Blackouts & Octopus Go

It's in their T&C's !!! ...but have you had Power Cuts longer than 30 minutes, to disrupt a 30 minute data set on your Smart Meter?
  21. PITA

    Uk Blackouts & Octopus Go

That's not how Octopus Energy work. They don't 'assume' zero... they have to have a FULL 24 hour data set. If one 30 minute data set is missing, the whole day defaults to Flexi Rates. Now... if your Smart Meter does not work during a blackout and misses a 30 minute dataset showing 'error' ...
  22. PITA

    Uk Blackouts & Octopus Go

Yes but are those readings held in memory before the powercut, not during a power cut... see the difference? Do Smart Meters have an internal battery backup? To remain powered and collecting the 30 minute periods during a blackout?
  23. PITA

    Uk Blackouts & Octopus Go

Yes... but I'm showing how Octopus Go Terms & Conditions will clash if this happens, and potentially default onto Flexi Rates for the WHOLE DAY. That will have an impact to a lot of people on here, that may not know until their bill turns up.
  24. PITA

    Uk Blackouts & Octopus Go

Just had a horrible thought... If these Government scheduled blackouts start during Winter... For every day you have a Blackout, your Smart Meter won't record the 30 minute blocks... Octopus Energy will then default onto their Terms & Conditions and charge the whole day use at Flexible Rate...

    32a Commando Socket with UMC

Could you take a look at my Socket please... No clue if it's done properly or not, but was fitted by an electrician to the Tesla Gateway 2 So I can use it off-grid. It locks when 32amp plug is inserted and turned on.

If Elon has pulled plug on Starlink in Ukraine would you pull your order?

Elon needs Russian Gas to power Gigafactory in Berlin. Russia could also wipe out his orbiting satellites. He could bankrupt SpaceX if he threatens to shoot down Starship if it passes over Russia at ANY time. Don't know what threats are being made.

    Starlink Dish - Lightning Protection

That's sort of our plan... We have an Air to Air Heat Pump, with internal wall units that can provide heat. So If I do a Washing Load to finish about 00:30 ... I can stay up, hang out the washing on a floor standing laundry folding rack. With a dehumidifier in the centre. A wall unit on Heat...
