How to get rear wheel to turn while on jacks?

Is there a way to have the rear wheel turn by hand while car is jacked up? I’ve heard that if you put it in neutral the parking brake will still engage. I’m painting my brake calipers and I also paint the hub of the rotors which would be much easier if I could turn the wheel freely.

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

I just purchased that vehicle used a month ago with 20K mil on it. I test drove quite a few vehicles and every car I checked was in the mid to high 300’s or low 400’s. I would like to see what the lifetime Wh/m is on this vehicle, but not sure how to get that number.
  3. R

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

Lol. I’m not saying I always drive super aggressive but driving slow most of the time to see how low you can get the Wh/m is boring.

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

Those are really low numbers but it seems strange to have a car with over 500HP but then drive it like it’s a Prius.

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

I just purchased a 2020 MS LR with 20k miles on it. I’m lucky in this cold weather to get 350Wh/m, and a lot of short trips or fast highway miles up in the mid 400’s. My last 2018 MS 75D was the same if not worse. I would have to drive in chill mode like a grandma to get near what many of you...

    Model S Wh/m

Okay so if you look above I show my trips and the numbers are very high. Is this way higher than what I should be getting?
  7. R

    Model S Wh/m

So here is my trips screen. It has been very cold the last couple of weeks so I know that has a big effect but I’m happy when I’m in the low 300’s. Would these Wh/m shown be out of the norm?

    Model S Wh/m

I just purchased a 2020 model s long range with 20K miles. It is much faster and of course much longer range than the 2018 75D I did own. I really like the new car but like the last model S I can rarely get a good Wh/m. So many here talk about mid 200 Wh/m and I can rarely get that low. I test...

    WH/mile?

I just purchased a 2020 S LR and so far it seems to be similar to my last car, getting in the mid 300 WH/ m. I have been shopping for a used S for a while now and every car I checked had upper 300 or low 400 WH/m shown. I don’t get how so many here can get WH/m in the mid 200’s.

    Model S Wheels

Thanks I thought that was the case just checking to make sure. I much prefer the 2016 wheels over the newer ones.

    Will 2016 Model S 19” stock wheels fit on a 2020 Model S?

"Pull Over Safely - Vehicle Shutting Down" - Car Totally Disabled

I have purchased 3 different Tesla’s used, 1 model 3 and 2 model S vehicles and they have been very dependable and very few repairs. I have never had to have them towed or been stranded. What’s interesting is that almost everyone reporting car shutting down has a vehicle that is either new or in...

2019 model S with Raven motor

Okay thanks for info. Did they continue to use Raven in 2020 model S long range and long range plus?
  14. R

2019 model S with Raven motor

I’ve been looking at some 2019 model S 100D vehicles. If the car has a 273 mile range and adaptive suspension does that mean it has a Raven motor?

Finally installed trunk spoiler. I prefer body color spoiler as opposed to carbon fiber and chrome delete.

Rear spoiler added and blacked out

Finally was able to purchase the correct adhesive for installing spoiler, I much prefer adhesive over tape. I also prefer the body color spoiler over carbon fiber. I really like the look of the S blacked out and getting rid of the ugly chrome trim.

My Wh/m after one year of ownership

I’m running 19” Pirelli P zero tires and live in Midwest flat country, but do mash the throttle.

My Wh/m after one year of ownership

Okay I guess I’m okay then. I do drive a lot of short trips in town and it’s been hot so that doesn’t help. Lately I’ve been taking it easy and it has improved but it’s no fun driving that way so I will take your advice and drive it and enjoy. I just thought that the 363 Wh/m was high, my wife...

My Wh/m after one year of ownership

That’s what I’m thinking that it’s still too high. Does this mean my battery is not very good?

My Wh/m after one year of ownership

I have owned this 2018 model S 75D for one year and it seems my Wh/m is high with a 363 for the last 9K miles. I cleared trip B and have been driving slower and trying to get the number down which is better at 308. Is this Wh/m unusually high? In that 9K miles there was at least 3 month’s of...

    WH/mile?

I don’t own a performance model wish I did but I agree even with a standard model I like to drive a little aggressively.
  22. R

    WH/mile?

Lately I’ve been averaging 315 so I guess that’s closer to normal.
  23. R

    WH/mile?

Lately I’ve been averaging 275 also because I’ve been driving slower and using cruise control more. So I guess it’s just my driving habits not the car.
  24. R

    WH/mile?

Thanks for all the replies, I guess that my car uses a high Wh/m especially the way I drive. What’s surprising is that even though my Wh/m is high I still get close to the miles shown every day. The Tesla’s that I have owned on average will get at least 30 less miles than shown to start the day...

    WH/mile?

I do a lot of short trips and it has been hot lately so I guess that is one reason mine is high. But to average 217 is excellent I would be happy to get under 300.
  26. R

    WH/mile?

I have been driving a little slower lately and I’ve been averaging 325 kw/mile. Is that close to normal for a model S?
  27. R

    WH/mile?

Actually she doesn’t drive that slow, on the interstate she usually sets the cruise on 78. She does use the cruise a lot more than I do so that probably helps.
  28. R

    WH/mile?

Maybe I’m just driving too aggressively.
  29. R

    WH/mile?

I have 19” wheels and actually I drive more in town and my wife drives more on the highway.
  30. R

    WH/mile?

My 2018 model S 75D has been averaging 350 Wh/mile, while my wife’s 2018 model 3 averages 175Wh/mile. Is this big difference normal because of the different models?

    Model S suspension problems

I’ve heard about model S having suspension problems but I thought that would be after some years and upper miles. I purchased a 2018 model S 75D in early summer with 32k miles on it. Not long after owning it I noticed a nasty grinding sound when accelerating hard. So brought to SC and they...

    380 WH/MI

    Thanks for the replies.

    380 WH/MI

It has just recently been in the 30’s so it is colder out now. So are you guys saying that my numbers are not that high?
  39. R

    380 WH/MI

I have a 2018 model S 75d with 34k miles on it. I’ve been averaging mid to high 300 WH/MI and at times up to 420. Is this normal for a mix of city and highway driving? I’m driving somewhat aggressive and usually set cruise at 82. Ive also had a yellow triangle warning show a couple of times on...

    Strange noise when turning

I get a strange noise occasionally when turning right and accelerating fast. It’s kind of a clunking noise and what’s strange is it seems to only do it when first driving, I can’t get it to make the noise once car is warmed up. Plus it doesn’t do it all the time and I have to really get on it...

Model S Aftermarket CV Axles - Success!

Here are a couple of my wood Jack stands. All the wood is screwed together which makes them very stable and safe and with the plywood base makes them near impossible to tip over. I find it much easier and safer to let my car down on these as opposed to tippy Jack stands and I feel safer if...

Model S Aftermarket CV Axles - Success!

I agree that piling up 2x4s is not safe. I just painted my calipers and I use a floor Jack on front lifting point and raise vehicle high enough to get both wheels off the ground, I then use my wood block under the rear lifting point and let off the floor Jack until I get some of the weight on...

Model S Aftermarket CV Axles - Success!

Wood is very safe. I worked construction and we set equipment weighing 10 tons on 4”x4” and never had them fail. Even if the wood split some it’s still not going anywhere and will still support the vehicle. i have Jack stands but also use wood if want to leave vehicle up for and extended period...
  44. R

Model S Aftermarket CV Axles - Success!

Wood blocks are stronger than any Jack stand is. I have seen very heavy equipment that weighs much more than a tesla rest on 4”x4” blocks for days and there is no problem. I use Jack stands but also use wood blocks as back up because they can’t fail.

    2016 wheels on 2018 model S?

Those are nice looking wheels. I am deciding between those or the open style of the original 10 spoke which I refer to as 5 spoke. Whichever wheels I decide on I will have them powder coated flat black, I like that color and have found they stay clean looking the longest because brake dust...

    2016 wheels on 2018 model S?

That’s good to know. What year is your car?
  47. R

    2016 wheels on 2018 model S?

I think you are correct that they are just showing the oem years. I just want to make sure they fit before ordering. You are also right about them being available at a low price, there are full sets of remanufactured wheels for $760.00. I like a more open look on wheels and those older base...

    2016 wheels on 2018 model S?

I have looked at the specs and yes they should fit. But if you look at most listings of oem wheels they will have the older style wheels as only fitting on 2012-2016. Cars that are 2017 and on they show that the older style wheels don’t fit on them.

    2016 wheels on 2018 model S?

    Has anyone tried a 2016 wheel on a 2018 model S?

    2016 wheels on 2018 model S?

Thanks for the reply. That’s what I’m thinking but don’t want to order some wheels and have them not fit. It’s strange that so many sites say they only fit 2012-2016.
