    Advice on a used Model S 90D

Make sure your tires aren't summer rated! I made that fatal mistake with my Model S. It was shipped with summer performance tires, which turn into hockey pucks in the winter and do not stop on ice. I hit black ice and went into a tree, thankfully only going about 10MPH.

    Advice on a used Model S 90D

Regarding Hi dan_uk, if you're concerned about being stranded in the future again, there is a backup device you can buy and keep in your car but it is expensive. It's called EcoFlow DELTA Max. It can supply about 2-5kwh of energy back into your car in case you totally run out of juice, which...

    2022 X PLAID - Poor Range Performance Help: Getting 50 - 77% of EPA 311 miles

I would also recommend you look for a similar Tesla on Turo and rent it for a weekend. See if you get similar range numbers.

Energy Costs - My co-op installing chargers that are 50c kWh

Another MA resident here. Don't forget we don't get off peak rates either, which is total BS. Can't wait to go solar in the future, even if it'll take years to earn it back.

Is it possible to get 250 miles on the interstate with a 2022 M3P?

Kyle Connor from Out of Spec has proved that once you get down to 5-6%, just lower your speed to say 30-40MPH and don't do any sudden or hard throttle inputs. You should have no problem reaching your destination because: - Newer Tesla's have a buffer - A steady 30-40mph is about the lowest...

2013 Model S won't boot up or drive after parked overnight

And don't forget they are also incredibly understaffed and not enough service centers with the exploding growth of Tesla's. Hope you get a resolution soon. I've been following your thread now for months. I've got about 1 year left on my 2015 and hope I don't go through the same.

    FSD Really This Bad?

Wow that's very comforting for owners with old Tesla's like me, 2015 Model S with AP1. You're right, PB's are extremely rare and lane centering works so well on those long boring highways and straight country roads. I was thinking of upgrading to a newer model, but I think I'll hold on to mine...

Lucid Air Grand Touring vs Tesla Model S Plaid.

The 100kwh battery idea is exactly what Kyle Connor from Out of Spec said as well. He believes the majority of most EV's going forward will have 100kwh or less batteries and 800v architecture to maximize charging speeds without the added weight and expense of more lithium to the vehicles.

How far will current selling prices fall after Jan. 1 ?

The prices are still unfortunately rediculous. A low mileage 2020 Hyundai Kona EV is listing for $38K on the used market right now.

haha good advice! I forgot about that slow speed option.

    Youtuber buys dead 2013 P85 for $7K

I'm sure these are nice guys, but I had to mute the video. I think they had 3 redbulls before they hit the record button. Non stop talking between the 2 and overly excited at every moment.

    Youtuber buys dead 2013 P85 for $7K

Hey all, I found what looks like an interesting series coming up on Youtube. WatchJRGo channel just bought a 2013 P85 with a dead 12V and high voltage pack. He barely got the car on the tow truck it was so slammed. He's going to have a series fixing it all up.

2013 Model S won't boot up or drive after parked overnight

The Tesla way didn't work for this poster. They told him to ship it because there is no service center anywhere near his home. Pretty sure the average Toyota or Ford driver can find a service center within 200 miles of their home.

2013 Model S won't boot up or drive after parked overnight

The customer service is also my reason I'll be looking elsewhere in the future. Do you have BMW or Mercedes in your city? The new BMW iX 50 is a killer EV that gets a verified 340 miles at a constant 70MPH. It's also the quietest EV Kyle Connor from Out of Spec has ever reviewed. The other nice...

Can't turn off auto wipers or high beams? [on autopilot]

No doubt about EA's horrible infrastructure. Apparently, if you live in the Colorado area, you've got EA chargers by ABB company, which are completely unreliable. But on the east coast, I think Signet makes the EA chargers, which seem to have held up much better. Either way, not a system that...

Can't turn off auto wipers or high beams? [on autopilot]

If you can get past the hideous front end, the BMW IX M50 has a real world 340 mile range at a constant 70MPH. Plus I've read it has outstanding regen braking and it is one of if not the quietest EV's on the market. Not sure on its self-driving capabilities, but it doesn't have a frunk. At 340...

Traded my M3P for an RS3 - My thoughts on both cars for what it's worth

I tend to agree. I bought my 2015 Model S in 2019 and it was 42% depreciated from its original MSRP, even with low miles. So the depreciation curve was normal before covid even with Tesla.

That's a good point as well. VW ID.4 come to mind as very anonymous looking EV's.

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

Are there any Tesla's on Turo in your area? In the future, I plan on using them to test drive any vehicle I am thinking to buy.

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

Competition may eventually catch up, but I can tell you at least in the Greater Boston area, Tesla owns this market, by like a 10 to 1 ratio against all other EV's on the road. On saturday alone, I must have seen at least 30-40 Tesla's in one area of a shopping plaza. I saw maybe 4 non-Tesla...

    loaded 2016 or basic 2018

I've got a 2015 P90DL with the nose cone and still love it. It's got the 21" turbine wheels, gets 210-220 miles on average. Maintenance and repairs have been tires, brake cleaning (still on original pads with lots of life left), control arm bushings, and 2 door handles. Love the free...

FSD, a massive fail for TESLA! What secret mantra have I missed?

A good faith deposit is a good example. It shows the seller that the buyer is serious and not just kicking the "tires", so to speak.
  25. J

FSD, a massive fail for TESLA! What secret mantra have I missed?

Great, but if you're a Tesla stock owner, you're already funding FSD anyways and getting much better ROI now versus paying for FSD beta with nothing to show for IF you haven't been accepted as a beta tester.
  26. J

FSD, a massive fail for TESLA! What secret mantra have I missed?

I understand your point, but wouldn't buying Tesla stock be a much better option and still achieve the same thing, investing into a product that you believe has a bright future? You're buying a piece of the company with a much better ROI.
  27. J

FSD, a massive fail for TESLA! What secret mantra have I missed?

No argument here on that point. The buyer is stupid if he/she paid $15k and assumed they would get it that service without reading the fine print. But in the end, that buyer is better off parking that $15k in a money market fund until FSD is released from beta into production.
  28. J

FSD, a massive fail for TESLA! What secret mantra have I missed?

I don't feel people are entitled to beta. Never said so. Paying $15,000 for the opportunity to apply for a beta program for which you *may* or *may not* be chosen is my point. A fool and his/her money are soon parted. A smart buyer would simply wait for that day where FSD is in production and...
  29. J

FSD, a massive fail for TESLA! What secret mantra have I missed?

Sounds like a distinction without a difference. The customer pays now for a service (whether separate or an add-on) with no idea when they will actually get their service, whether beta or production. Customers paid money in 2017 and 5 years later they got nothing for it. Where else in life is...

FSD, a massive fail for TESLA! What secret mantra have I missed?

"Tesla does not currently want "anyone" who buys FSD to have it" You forgot to add "but they'll GLADLY take all the money upfront" and then *maybe* select you, sometime in the future, IF.... There is no fixed criteria. Tesla takes your money and then you wait with zero insight onto whether or...
  31. J

FSD, a massive fail for TESLA! What secret mantra have I missed?

So if I understand this correctly, a new Tesla buyer would have to fork over $15,000 for the opportunity that they *might* be selected in the future to participate in a beta program. That's like walking up to a night club, handing $500 to the bouncer and stand there hoping he selects you. A...

The number of used Tesla 3/Y available is staggering

I just watched Kyle Connor from Out of Spec pick up his brand new Model S Plaid. Right off the bat in the video: - Rubber window moldings coming loose. That problem has existed since day one of the S, including my 2015. - Glove box closes with a loud CLING from some internal spring. It was so...

The number of used Tesla 3/Y available is staggering

Totally agree. I'm hoping winter of 2024 will be a good time to buy a house. First house for me.
  34. J

The number of used Tesla 3/Y available is staggering

Exactly right. Want your car RIGHT NOW? Fork over that cash money ADM or wait 1 year for your factory ordered Tesla.
  35. J

The number of used Tesla 3/Y available is staggering

The low rates we had were ridiculously unrealistic and I'm surprised the fed didn't raise them years ago. The entire 1990's economic boom still had customers paying 6-7% average rates for car loans.
  36. J

The number of used Tesla 3/Y available is staggering

Not just Tesla, look up a 2017 Chevy Bolt with 10K miles or less and the dealers are asking $28,000 for them. That's over $400 a month payment for a used car or I could lease a brand new Bolt for $200 a month and $2000 down. Buying used now is stupid and I'm someone who's own 8 cars my whole...

Would you buy a new Model S?

I'm still loving my pre-facelift 2015 P90DL with only 44k miles. I think 2015-2017 were the best years for the S in terms of maximum features for the money. We still get the free SC and sunroof that opens. AP1 is perfection on the freeway, where you really need it the most during long boring...

Tesla replacing ultrasonic sensors with Tesla Vision

I still love my 2015 Model S P90DL too. Tesla seems to give us more reasons every day to keep our old cars.

Tesla replacing ultrasonic sensors with Tesla Vision

Yes, thank you. That's what I meant.
  40. J

Tesla replacing ultrasonic sensors with Tesla Vision

I agree they absolutely work on the highway with my 2015 Model S. When a large truck rides up next to me and drifts closer into my lane, the radar detects it and moves my car away from that truck.

No more Uber Credits or loaners after warranty expiration

    - Distinction without a difference. The point is Lexus at the top enforces top service priority at the dealers and makes sure the customer is taken care of even when you are long out of warranty. - Tesla out of warranty costs are also just as expensive and apparently that doesn't include...

No more Uber Credits or loaners after warranty expiration

Same here. I had a 13 year old Lexus LS430 that was well out of the warranty period. I had an expensive A/C repair job that lasted 2 weeks and Lexus gave me a brand new loaner NX for the entire time, no questions asked or rental rates. No excuse for Tesla on this.

    Wiki Superchargers Visited

I'm from MA and it is indeed amazing how many have sprung up. 3 years ago, I had to drive 45 minutes to the near SC. Today, just 12 minutes. However, the SC's near and around Boston almost all 72kw, and even worse, located in paid parking garages. The closest 250kw is in Somerville, but they...

New MYP owner - My take on ride quality.

Hi Zalick, thanks for sharing your comparisons. I was also an owner of a 2006 LS430, and it still breaks my heart that I sold it. Lexus current flagship doesn't impress me at all. I currently own a 2015 Model S, which I absolutely love. But the LS430 was magic in a different way, as you said...

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

I've got a 2015 Model S (AP1) as well and can attest how reliable it is. The only rare times I get the alerts are when driving under highway overpasses and someone hovering in between lanes too long. The overpasses just make the car alert and say grab the wheel but they don't slam on the brakes...

Tesla Vision coming to radar-equipped cars on 2022.24.6

That ID.3 is such a pretty little EV too IMO, and I'm not usually a fan of small cars. Too bad we can't get it nor the Honda e in the USA.

Tesla Semi 500-range variant starts shipping this year: Elon Musk

Which reaffirms my argument. There is not a central consensus that Tesla's listed range on their website matches what people are experiencing in the real world.

Tesla Semi 500-range variant starts shipping this year: Elon Musk

There is not a wide consensus on your argument. Case in point. Tesla Fails To Meet EPA Range With All Its Cars In Edmunds' Tests This may explain why most automakers prefer to adopt a more conservative EPA testing method. Some say that Tesla underpromises and overdelivers. According to...

Tesla Semi 500-range variant starts shipping this year: Elon Musk

I'm fully aware of that. TFL Truck said the same thing with their F-150 electric truck. I refuse to believe biased advertisments from any manufacture, Tesla included. Let's see an actual buyer who puts the numbers to the test.
