    Refresh Model X & S Waiting Room - AUSTRALIA

You might be looking at figures for the old Model S. The refresh has had a major weight drop. Here's from the Merc site = 2558kg And here's the figure from Tesla.com (converted from pounds) = 2166kg. A difference of 392 kgs, or 5 adult males.

    Refresh Model X & S Waiting Room - AUSTRALIA

Note that I was responding with some test data to a very specific comment: "the 53 AMG handles better than the M3P" But even if we take the Model S, which is much larger than the M3P, and a bit larger than the EQE, the weight difference is still 340kg. That's 3 rugby players in the back seat...

    Refresh Model X & S Waiting Room - AUSTRALIA

Here's some test data: https://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/4lmc604cavoa The Merc is actually a whopping 4 seconds slower around the Autozeitung test track It also has significantly longer braking distances. Both probably can be attributed to the extra 700kg of weight. No overcoming the laws...

    Low Voltage battery replacement

Tesla actually has quite reasonable pricing for 12V battery replacement, including supply and install. Check out what BMW charges!

    Cruise control annoyingly timid

My gut feel from the info you've given us is that your driving may have a higher risk profile than the cruise control. I'm concerned about the bit where you say it is latching onto the car in the "left lane", Be aware that the car in front of you that has started to move over after passing...

    Cruise control annoyingly timid

I haven't seen this. What do you have the follow distance set at? More generally, ignoring tesla and cruise control for a moment, is your driving style to maintain a 3 second gap at 100kph? Also check if the windscreen is clean in the vicinity of the cameras. Haven't seen this either? Try...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Put simply, not everyone wants an SUV. It's why there is still a market for the C Class, 3 Series and so on. The Model 3 has some advantages over the Y: Better range/efficiency Sportier drive Better looking Lower price etc Different aspects of these cars appeal to different people. All (or...

It’s a very heavy car. Some 300kg heavier than the larger Model S Plaid.

    Refresh Model X & S Waiting Room - AUSTRALIA

Interview with Franz about the introduction of the conventional wheel on the S It sounds like they got feedback that the yoke was indeed a showstopper holding up some people from buying the car. https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-s-model-x-round-steering-wheel-option-explained/ Also - 3/Y...

The poms have ~20% VAT I believe on new cars.

    Panoramic Roof & Ride Quality

Plenty of Mercs, particularly the performance oriented ones have rock hard, teeth jarring suspension.

    PPF in Sydney

Not heard of PPF on interior surfaces before. Where exactly are you planning?

    Wheels and Tyres

I guess the first question is, even if you had a spare, would you be happy, for example, to change the wheel in the breakdown lane of a 110kph motorway? More and more vehicles are now shipping without spare tyres. There was a study done of thousands of end-of-life cars at wrecking yards, and...

    Superchargers in Australia

Chargefox and Evie in particular, since they are commercially operated. Those expensive chargers bring in exactly $0 for however long they are broken. Would a shop or restaurant be happy with an 11 day outage of their EFTPOS capability over christmas? Plus there's the repetitional damage...

    Superchargers in Australia

I would do exactly the same in this situation. It's a non Tesla, therefore dependent on the 3rd party sites. Given the time of year and the state of the non Tesla charging sites on the route, I'd be charging an Atto3 to 100% too. Gundagai has all stalls out of action Mittagong down Evie Sutton...

Yep good idea. Dunnies need to be part of the “template” too Bathurst is an example of one of the better setups.

    NRMA fast charging network

And now right on cue, both stalls now broken. Mittagong is busted too. Tritium equipment is not fit for purpose.
  25. O

    Supercharger - Gundagai NSW

And chargefox say there’s a technician booked for - get this - January 20th. They just don’t treat it like critical infrastructure. Tesla does.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yes, real PPF is pretty remarkable stuff. It was originally developed to protect helicopter blades in combat situations.

    NRMA fast charging network

The replacement of the notorious Tritium charger at Mittagong is now complete. New one is a different model, but unfortunately still a Tritium. It’s got a paywave terminal on the front and appears to support simultaneous charging. So in theory, a Nissan leaf can come in from the back and...

    NRMA fast charging network

NRMA has added a comment to the Plugshare reference for the notorious Mittagong charger. It's down yet again, and they now seem to be saying that they are doing a full unit replacement with a newer model (maybe the 75kw?) and trying to add more stalls. https://www.plugshare.com/location/166796...

    Superchargers in Australia

The land is already there: https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2019/11/27/parking-dominates-our-cities-but-do-we-really-see-it "There are somewhere between 800 million and 2 billion parking stalls in the United States. There are between 3 and 8 stalls for every registered vehicle. Surface...

  40. O

    Superchargers in Australia

The reason the current Canberra site is so busy is that in addition to road trippers, a surprisingly high amount of use is from Canberra locals who can't charge at home. Look on plugshare, these are the regulars that complain about super slow charge rates. This is because they are driving 5 km...

Arena supported streetside charging in NSW

Imagine all of the NBN infrastructure had to go thorough councils... It would only be about 10% complete. Side note: Siemens field crews in the UK can do 20 lamp post EVSE installs per day
  42. O

Arena supported streetside charging in NSW

I get that there are fixed startup costs, but it still seems to be ridiculously high. A power pole install should be one of the cheapest forms of EVSE, since there is no trenching, excavation, bollard installations etc, and the power source is literally right there. Even at $4K for the...

Arena supported streetside charging in NSW

I guess the obvious question is why it is working out to $40,000 per unit???
  44. O

    Ampol AmpCharge network

    Blank looks in return?
  45. O

    NRMA fast charging network

While I agree with that, only Tritium can supply spare parts for their chargers. Several sites have been down awaiting parts for 6 months or more.
  46. O

    NRMA fast charging network

How is Tritium still in business?

Any point is buying a type 2 cable?

Do you have access to home charging or will you be dependent on public chargers? If the latter, it could well be useful.

Sentry mode doubling my energy consumption

I rarely use sentry mode - pretty much only if I have to park somewhere sketchy. The car doesn't sleep when it's in use, and 99% of the time it just throws up hours of junk footage. I think a lot of new owners go overboard using it everywhere outside home. The reality is that you've gone your...
