    (Geo)fenced in...

It’s easy finding loaners, they’re the ones caked in mud inside and out….. I also had fun with the pin to drive geofence, but it’s the other way round for me where the SC “one time pin” is now permanently stuck on the car. I can’t login to my Tesla account in the car to clear it because it’s...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I didn’t get a schedule until nearly 11pm last night, despite having been plugged in since 3pm Car charged fine though. Did notice I got an extra percent over what the octopus app is set to (80%), but that’s because the car was set to 85% and IO can take a while to stop charges.

[UK] Insurance prices - is it Tesla or my claim causing the high price?

The good thing about comparison sites is you can very quickly answer this question yourself! Get a quote then edit the details and remove mention of your previous claim. Then add it back and change car. You can't get insurance with false details, but you can get quotes based on hypotheticals as...

    Wiper blade replacement

Thanks for this, ordered some the other day. They fit the push connector perfectly and are just as good as the ones the car came with.

Yup, for me the app was fine but it didn’t get a schedule until 10pm so something was wonky.

    discrepancy in 0-60 times M3

Tesla also measure the 0-60 by excluding the first foot of roll-out (like a drag strip would) so some other tests might show slight differences. But it’s still rapid acceleration due to how instant the torque is.

RCBs do deteriorate over time and become more sensitive, but it’s usually over many years of use not a few months. Could be cheap and nasty ones that aren’t really up to handling 32amps.
  11. S

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

That’s weird. IO is just doing the exact same thing you are when you hit the start charge button in the app, so it won’t be IO at fault but something about your wiring or overall load. Are you running other things in the cheap window, it could be they are introducing too much voltage to earth...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Set it via the Tesla app. I've had a loaner for a few days and only now realised you can do it in the car as well 😶, but it's buried in a submenu where you need to tap the blue text to tell the car when off-peak ends. But I've had it enabled via the app for a year now and the car never starts a...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Yep, it shuffles charging periods around from the initial one you get at 5 to whenever it actually starts. Makes sense as it’s load balancing demand and not everyone will be plugging in at the same time, so it needs to juggle stuff around. Just open the octopus app, look at your schedule and...

Tesla - great CS turning around perceptions

Had good experiences with Chester on my 3 visits. I’m not a people person so I do love that I can just drop the car off and bugger off around the corner to the nearby retail park. And when you do speak to them, you can work out a sensible approach when there are multiple things that need...

    Tesla app:adding wall connector

If you already know the WiFi password for it you don’t need to know the QR code. Add it in the app and select the option to connect manually, then go into your WiFi settings and connect to the wall connector (need to hold the button down for 10 seconds or power it off and back on). Then pop back...

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

I always had the same location trigger a collision alert, presumably caused by it being a bit downhill with overhanging trees. When the vision only update rolled out, it stopped it entirely. Can’t say I’ve had any other random collision alerts other than where you would expect them when they...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Not really, IO should still stop any car-initiated charges so this is more a case of the charge completing quicker than IO anticipated. IO can sometimes blip and not stop a charge, but the 5:30 off-peak setting at least means if it happens it’s not going to ding you for the peak rate from when...

Teslas and UK ‘don’t touch your phone’ laws

There are separate laws/rules all interacting to make it confusing to the driver. Using a handheld device - literally what it says on the tin. Put it in a proper mount. Having a device attached that obstructs or blocks your view - don’t put the mount in a position that blocks your view...

DHL has lost my Wall Connector Charger

I once had a DHL parcel show as delivered, but it never arrived. Tesla U.K. have closed all their front of house service teams and it’s absolutely baffling

It’s a bit impersonal and weird, but I can’t fault the experience with Chester. Have experienced BMW and Audi and whilst they have people to talk to you still ultimately get dumped on a couch with a manky brew and are more likely to get fleeeced. Been twice (radio and lights) and heading there...

Because up until recently they weren’t automatically enabled for everyone when activating AP. It seems like that happening caused there to be enough focus on fixing them. Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Have it set to 80% on both apps. Octopus and car both set to depart by 8am too, hence why it used a bit of shore power to get the car warm.
  36. S

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Quick example. IO had a smattering of charge periods overnight and then 6-6:30 and 7-7:30 = additional IO scheduled charging. Car set to stop off-peak charging at 5:30 and you can plainly see the charging happening when IO wanted it to happen.
  37. S

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Not true in the slightest. If IO schedules a charge after 5:30am it will tell the car to charge and the car will charge. The off-peak 5:30am setting is just to stop the car charging as soon as it's plugged in, instead it will calculate it's own time to charge to be finished by 5:30am (which IO...

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

It’s not “charging”, but no you can’t force the car to use its battery to heat the cabin up. If it’s plugged in it will always use shore power for heating/ac. The only way to do it is to pull the plug unless there is a way in the zappi to disable power between certain time periods.

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

IO always wins unless you use the Octopus app to bump charge. My car has been set to complete off-peak charging by 5:30 and IO always does it's thing, no matter when the IO charging periods are calculated for. You can even check your monthly bill and see the cheap-rate periods matching with the...

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

You set your tariff up in the Tesla app by hitting Charge stats Settings Home It should prompt you then, or start from scratch if it’s first time. You have to enter start times for peak and off peak, and bear in mind Elon can’t count using numbers that have decimal places in them.
  42. S

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

As long as it’s consistently wrong, then you’ll be fine. Another 38 but reported as 36 here, and I don’t blame it as the detached garage is closer to 36 than my house.
  43. S

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

You could do that (kinda against T&Cs as you do need to give them some level of charging control) but you’d be missing out on extra blocks of your whole house getting cheap leccy. If IO schedules your car to charge outside of the off-peak window then your whole house gets off-peak priced...

M3 Performance - Traction control on hard acceleration

The Michelins have started doing it to me when cold, but that’s expected given they are summer tires. They get better when they warm up, just a shame my estate requires a foot stomping dash across 4 lanes of a roundabout to get into the correct lane, so I get to experience the tyres kick out...

    Car Vinyl wrap - insurance

I once got told by an insurance firm that if the wrap/colour change was to a colour that you could have ordered the car as “from the catalogue” (not a super expensive bespoke colour option some manufacturers offer) then they didn’t need to know. But they all have their own rules.

    Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) Retrofit

Yep, an underground car park with painted floor = stealth car. It’s more frustrating than fun as so many people just wander out into the way of you with little kids in tow. It’s usually the kids who spot you, lights on, following behind. The adults are too reliant on hearing to notice, kids are...

IO calculates your charging time by taking into account the type of charger you have and the size of the battery in your car. I suspect it also applies a bit of a fudge factor to account for slightly reduced charging rates*. You specify this when signing up. You could lie and say you only have a...
