    MYLR all season tyres

Living in south England I’d say yes. I have CC2s on a spare set of rims and they have much better traction in lower single digit temps than the Pilots. That way you have optimal tyres all year round for the climate.

    Intelligent octopus stopped working!

I’ve had the RCBO issue off and on. Podpoint came out to replace the original one several months ago and has been fine until lately. Issue seems to be when IO schedules short bursts of charging of a few minutes at a time. If I get a solid 6 or 7h block for example it seems fine.

Snow with the Model Y RWD

Agree with Michelin CC2s. These are my winter tyres for my M3LR and swap them for the Pilot’s late spring. Living down south didn’t see the need for full winters and they are almost as good anyway. Have tested them up in NE Scotland in snow and were flawless. Edit: I know we don’t get much snow...

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

Having the same issue on occasion. Was really bad about 9 months ago and Podpoint came out to replace the dedicated breaker and that seemed to fix it. Until the last few weeks when it has happened again. Agree that it seems to happen when IO does lots of slots rather than one or two long ones...

[UK] used value of their Tesla cars plummeting?

Well early ones start at the £26k mark on AutoTrader and there is only one way they can go…

[UK] used value of their Tesla cars plummeting?

Fair enough but I reckon you risk being under water with those deals. As it happens I also cashed in and sold the 3 to Cazoo to buy the Tesla for only a couple of grand less after 2 1/2 years of running and 30000 miles. Those were unusual times!
  7. DoricJim

[UK] used value of their Tesla cars plummeting?

Was that 55% of the price you paid (with what I assume is decent discount) or RRP? E.g. My prior car before the Tesla was an ex demo fully loaded 3 series that retailed at around 45k. I bought it at 6 months old with 5k miles for 26k. What you are saying seems at odds for the 10 BMWs I’ve had...

[UK] used value of their Tesla cars plummeting?

Don’t understand that logic as historically very few cars could hold as much as 50% lost price after 3y. From my 30y of car buying experience closer to 40% retained was normal and this will start to be the case for all EVs the more mainstream they become. Used to be that as soon as you drove a...

    [UK] Price cuts

Sorry but final payment of 27k after 3y I reckon you will be lucky to be in much positive territory. They sold you a fast one stating 10k equity. I had 22k final at end of 4y for M3LR and decided due to price cuts and residuals to just pay it off now and own the car longer term.
  10. DoricJim

    [UK] Price cuts

Eh? That’s because you have specced optional alloys and then there is OTR charges. 🙄
  11. DoricJim

    [UK] Price cuts

No, tough luck basically. Sorry to be brutal but that’s the reality of it. Been spurred on by price cut to pay off my (non-Tesla) PCP today as I can now see that it will be under water at 4y and am planning to keep it beyond that.

    Left pillar camera blinded

Well I get it all the time at night on roads with no other cars around. Simple limitation of the camera sensitivity in dark conditions as far as I can see. Edit - I have a 2021 M3 with USS and agree it is nothing to do with that as the USS on screen can be yellow/red due to hedgerows and still...

    Left pillar camera blinded

  14. DoricJim

    Left pillar camera blinded

It is this. When driving in dark with no street lights it is a simple case of it being too dark for the left pillar camera to see anything. Guess our more rural US cousins see the same on their right camera. I often get multiple cameras blinded error on Oxfordshire country lanes at night...

Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

Hmmm, really. Real world winter testing in Car this month. Would be as a second EV for us, but even as a first car EV, the MG4 is an interesting proposition for the price.

Tesla M3 Tripping Home Charger 40A Fuse

Probably this (or at least I hope the fitter installed one and not direct into your consumer unit) they can be prone to being faulty and tripping out - had to get one replaced when my podpoint system was tripping it constantly.

    [UK] 2022.44

Thing is that your distance vision can be great but shorter ranges not so good and drive perfectly safely. I’ve always been short sighted and worn glasses for distance since I was a kid. Now that my close to intermediate distance is starting to marginally decline, I might be at a point where...

Porsche Dealer 350kW Charger Not Working

Wouldn’t count on that as their rate falls off pretty quickly. What average rate did you base that on?
  19. DoricJim

Porsche Dealer 350kW Charger Not Working

Don’t they also charge 40p a minute or similar on top? Seems to be the case according to the juice app. My dad got stung with that charging his BMW i4 using a lower kWh rate using his bmw account card.

    Apple Music integration…

2022.44.25.3 on an M3 here and have the same spinning wheel issue with AM. When getting back into car after locking and sometimes between tracks. Buffering issue? This feels like a beta release in some respects and is not as smooth as Spotify yet. Mind you will put up with it to have AM at last.

Sorry but anyone with a modicum’s worth of internet literacy knows how to search to get obvious Qs answered. Even the mods agree on this point by merging so don’t see why this was unhelpful.

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Thanks, have investigated further and I struggled to get the car to wake up this morning and maybe IO had the same issues last night. At least it has given a slot until lunchtime now.

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

I was forced into EDF when utility point went bust and moved to Octopus as soon as I got a smart meter fitted. No issues so far for me. Loving the IO tariff which is working out at an average of about 15p per kWh overall on 31p/7.5p rates.

Saved 21% for a grand total of 18p 🤣 seems pretty useless if you are a low user in the first place.

EV's to pay Road Tax from April 2025

Look at this, a balanced and reasonable comment on TMC, well I never… Agree with everything above. Plus I’ve had the feeling for a while that personal car transport is going to eventually get to the point where your average household can no longer expect to 2 or 3 sat on the drive (or more...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Well, after the initial quote and follow up site survey about 10 days ago, my selected installer has gone quiet. No agreed follow up contact with a final quote and spec yet... the promises of having everything in stock and 8 weeks to install is clearly too good to be true... This has given me...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

That was my exact thinking for winter. Load up batteries overnight cheap and use them during the day to offset the peak rate and any solar shortfall. Will need to do some proper sums and guess even the potential 4p or so feed in during the summer adds up over time if you can avoid any draw from...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Managed to get a survey and quote for a system with 16x380W panels, GivEnergy 9.5kw battery, hybrid converter, Zappi (to replace my “dumb” Podpoint) and hot water diverter for around 13k all in. They can get it done in 8 weeks as well apparently which surprised me. However, I was basing the...

  38. DoricJim

    New Energy Price Guarantee

Err on point 1) the price of gas is regulated by GLOBAL supply and demand so you are wrong. If they can’t sell for a certain price then they will have to reduce it. At least for now. Unless of course we get into a crazy situation where the high prices become acceptable and we can’t wean...
  39. DoricJim

    New Energy Price Guarantee

Totally different scenario as our domestic energy prices are capped by an “independent” regulator based on global energy market prices at 4 different time points a year. I.e the companies can’t just ramp up prices to take advantage of the government loans to cap prices. So, the capped price is...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Just wondering if anyone has had experience of Fox hybrid converters and batteries? One of the PV installers that I am getting a quote from uses them: https://ups-solar.co.uk/products/fox-hybrid-ac-charger/ https://ups-solar.co.uk/products/fox-energy-cube/ Thanks in advance.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I’ve been watching and reading this thread with interest for months now and think it is time for me to get some quotes for a PV and battery system. New Octopus Switchers / Energy Crisis

This is why I switched to Octopus from EDF being a dual fuel customer. Still cheaper to be on the gas SVR than being forced to take the dual fuel component of the EDF EV tariff.
  46. DoricJim

New Octopus Switchers / Energy Crisis

Government could legislate to fix this almost overnight. We have plenty of gas in the North Sea which they could put a domestic price cap on and force companies to supply our market at that price. It can be balanced to still allow a reasonable profit over the extraction and delivery process...

Home podpoint and off peak scheduling

Can’t help with what exactly the issue is, but coincidentally, I have a podpoint and issues with only a 16A draw sometimes lately. Tesla have done their diagnostics and say everything is fine. They did note a surge in the last 10 days but are unsure if related. Also had same behaviour at a...

    16A Phantom Battery Charge Back!?

Yeah, I understand that thanks, but these are 7kw and have used them many times before and normally charge at 30a indicated; I.e. standard 2 phase. Have used 22kw before and this is not the issue here. Wonder if one of the onboard 16a converters is dodgy and the car randomly selects 2 out of...

    16A Phantom Battery Charge Back!?

Spoke to soon dammit! Tried a quick top up at Tesco and back to 16A. Going to update to 2020.20.8 to see if the update and reboot does anything. Urgh! If not then a SC visit might be needed which is a PIA due to being an hour away… Assume no one else has experienced this of late and is...
