Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Well, I'll stipulate its predictive value is equal in both directions, so there's that. ;)

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This talk of small cars reminded me of this photo I took in 2001, in Munich, I think: It drove home to me how much cars had advanced (?) between the 1960’s and the 2000’s.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I‘ve developed a rather simplistic decision tree for this sort of thing… Knowing what you know, is X company likely to be successful at what it does going forward? If so, buy as much of it as you’re comfortable with and hold it as long as it continues to meet your expectations. If it ever...

The above bolded are known as “weasel words”. As far as “TA is no good” and that the above is “purely speculative opinion”, on that we can agree!

    Phone Mount Recommendations

My only thought is try to mount the phone as high as practicable. See my RAM solution a few posts back. It may seem minor, but the more you have to look down to see your phone, the less you can keep traffic in sight, if only peripherally. I find I more relaxing, and safer, to be able to keep my...

2022 Tesla owners really got the shaft!

I’m not sure about the moniker “luxury car”. I guess when I think “luxury” I envision Ricardo Montalban hawking “the finest Corinthian leather” and whatnot. Never really struck a note with me anyway. “Form follows function”. I find the simplicity of the Tesla’s interior quite elegant. In a way...

Have you seen some of the artist’s impressions of a possible Semi-based RV? One such: Before you laugh, I just went to the Prevost website and they have a 2011 model listed at $925,000 (!). Though absurdly rich for our tastes - and finances - there clearly is a market for some such things out...

Upset that Tesla screwed customers who took delivery in the last few months

Wait. That was sarcasm? Or was I on the wrong side of sarchasm: “The intellectual gap between the person who makes a sarcastic joke and those who don't get.”

Any happy camper here with the price cut?

And don’t forget the Supercharger network. Right now, that’s the main thing that prevents me from even considering the competition. I say “right now” because that may change if and when Tesla opens their Supercharger network to other brands.

Don’t think amount withheld makes any difference, nor whether you get a refund. IANAA, bit I think it only relates to Adjusted Gross Income.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

That can’t be right. Can it? edited to add: apparently it is. From Chat GPT: ”23 acres is equal to approximately 968,752 square feet. To find the length of one side of a square that has 23 acres, you would take the square root of 968,752, which is approximately 984. Therefore, each side of a...

Clearly, from here they can only go up! Or possibly down. Or stay the same for a while. I hold to the Efficient Market Hypothesis. Which is why it’s fundamentally impossible to predict a stock’s move - barring inside information, of course.

How does the EV tax credit work for the model Y?

I‘m pretty sure changing your withholding makes no difference. I think it’s your total tax liability that matters, not whether you owe an amount in excess of withholding. But I’m also not a tax expert. So grain of salt and all that.

Reverse instead of Drive by Mistake?

I’m 73, and have observed in myself and others of my vintage something I’ve labeled “Mature Onset Dyslexia”. Basically, it involves occasionally getting things backwards, usually like left vs right, east vs west, that sort of thing. And so, I’ve observed myself on rare occasion inadvertently...

    Elon & Twitter

Did not say it was. But unless these folks are just lying, Tesla is beginning to lose at least some sales due to his antics and/or politics. Whether the number becomes significant or not remains to be seen.

    Elon & Twitter

Extended threads on Twitter with folks saying driving a Tesla is like wearing a MAGA hat now, with many saying they were considering buying a Tesla but would no longer do so. Others saying they walked the walk and bought another brand of EV based on Elon’s shenanigans. Maybe just talk, but...

    Frunk opening randomly

I just tried exactly that from my house, and yes, I did get the “Are You Sure“ query. Interestingly, I tried it a second time to grab a screenshot to post, and on the second attempt no query. Great - it’s pouring down rain and I have to go out in it to manually close the frunk! Thanks a lot! 😉

The need for a second button press to open the frunk from the app definitely went away recently.

My Model 3 certainly doesn’t have any obvious “safety catch” for the frunk - which also strikes me as odd.

Tesla Semi’s EPA range rating will simply never exist…Here’s why

Assuming your numbers and calculations are correct, a 25% reduction in fuel/energy costs seems enormous to me. What kind of reduction would it take to impress you?

Tesla Semi’s EPA range rating will simply never exist…Here’s why

I read the shaded area and right scale to be the actual elevation traversed. Hence, LOTS of elevation change. As indicated by the marked decrease in range as they climbed to 4,136’ from about 500’. Am I wrong?

Just Drove My Model Y in Light Rain at Night for 1st Time with "Tesla Vision" (2022.36.6): Autopilot was **Unusable**

As stated upthread, be very, very cautious using any form of cruise control in heavy rain. It may work well, up until it doesn’t. I was once driving my wife‘s 2000 Jaguar XJR in heavy rain on I-40 near Tampa. Foolishly, I had cruise control on. Instantaneously the car just began a pirouette...

Just Drove My Model Y in Light Rain at Night for 1st Time with "Tesla Vision" (2022.36.6): Autopilot was **Unusable**

Ditto. Drove from N IN to our home in E TN yesterday, and both ACC and AutoSteer worked well in light rain. A couple notes: 1) We turn off ACC if the rain becomes even moderate. Puddling can lead to hydroplaning where any cruise control can get you in trouble in a heartbeat. DAMHIK. 2) The...

Pic of your Model 3.......RIGHT NOW! [model 3 pictures thread]

It wasn’t really a driveway, just a short paved stretch leading to an apartment door. Considered backing in to charge, but figured completely blocking the sidewalk would be at the very least rude, and possibly even a ticketable offense.

    6-50 to 14-50 Adapter?

We’re back at our friend’s in Indiana. Good news: It works! Yay!! Weird news: It‘s charging at 32A indicated and about 33 mph - which is absolutely fine. Still, I thought that since we’re using Tesla’s 14-50 adapter, albeit through an adapter, it would communicate to the car it should be...

MY Quad Lock Wireless Charging Setup

Glad I could serve as an inspiration. I too like the flexibility of the QuadLock system when combined with various RAM mounts and arms. Like hypa, I use the same system on motorcycles, bikes, ebikes and even in my Light Sport plane. Here’s our iteration charging somewhere in Ontario:

Heater Not Working Properly on both my Model 3 LR's

We had an issue like this last week. Cold morning and really pathetic heat output even with the temp all the way up. Turned off the A/C to no avail. Finally turned the Climate system off (button 1 in the above illustration) and then back on and the system roared to life. Did a system reboot when...

Charging on 110 line in cold weather?

As others have pointed out, some 120v receptacles are rated at 20A rather than 15A. Can be identified by the neutral slot having a horizontal component: If your home has one of these, Tesla sells a 5-20 adapter. We bought one since our GA home has a 20A outlet conveniently located outside...

    Software update questions

It sure seems like doing a system reboot “encourages” a software update. At least twice - including recently the 2002.40.4.1 update - it seemed to be taking a long time to get, and after a system reboot I had the update notification within a day or so. For newbies, pushing and holding both...

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

Model 3 owner here, but… …at least for now, when comparing prices with other brands, shouldn’t we factor in the convenience and widespread availability of the Supercharger network? Whenever I contemplate other brands, I certainly pause and consider how I’d deal with charging when traveling...

Heated mirror and rear defroster issue

I was about to post about the same issue. On my 2022 M3LR, yesterday I had condensation on the rear window. I drove at least 20 minutes with the rear defroster on and never saw the heating element lines doing their jobs. It took longer than that for the condensation to finally dissipate...

    Phantom Braking

We recently made a 2,000 mile trip from E TN as far north as Ottawa in our 2022 Model 3 LR with whatever version of Autopilot was current a couple months ago. No FSD. When the ACTUAL cybertruck pricing is released…,

Really? At first glance it seems far more aero than current pickups. edited to add: Google tells me the CyberTruck will come in with a c/d of about .39. While “Pickup truck designs are, for the most part, extremely similar and generally have a bad drag coefficient between 0.55 and 0.65 Cd.”
