Starting to see overnight battery drain

2-3 miles loss in 12hrs and you are this concerned? That amount sounds rather background and well within margin of error for range estimations to me. Also, it sounds like you do mostly super short trips which also could explain above standard usages. Simply powering on, getting your climate up...

M3P Wider Tires on Stock Ubers?

Based on what I'm hearing even 265 isn't an issue so I should be perfectly safe with 255. 245 is kinda in that why bother range for me so I'm going to be trying 255 when I am up for a new set.

    Phantom braking

So after getting an update last weekend to go from 2022.23.101 to 2022.28.2 I have driven about 600 miles and have had no PBs or unexplained slowdowns on the same route in the same driving conditions. Previously I have had 1-2 events in that time frame. Hopefully this trend continues.

Effect of wider tires on range

Sure, deforming a thin flexible sidewall is less of a loss than the deforming of a thick stiff tread, but both a wide and a thin tire deform the tread and a thin tire would be deforming less total tread width but at a higher angle which is worse because the tire is losing more of it's shape...

OEM CCS adapter now available to order in North America, Retrofit for older cars coming in 2023

Though we see how painful and slow going to USB-C has been (created in 2014) and that wasn't even on a $50K+ piece of equipment or dealing with changing out an insane amount of money worth of charging installations. I'm pretty sure the only reason Tesla is adding CCS now is because they are...

Effect of wider tires on range

Ok, saying things differently yet thinking the same things still apparently. I am aware that two loaded tires of different widths but otherwise identical will have the same area of contact patch. Air pressure and vehicle weight dictate the area of the contact patch. Weight/PSI = Contact Area I...

Tell me the truth! I won't be offended.

Truth? I think any teeth on any car look absolutely terrible. On a Tesla, it totally ruins the classy look of the car and makes it look cheap and and trashy. Not trying to offend anyone BTW, everyone has their own style. These are purely my internal thoughts that I typically wouldn't say unless...

OEM CCS adapter now available to order in North America, Retrofit for older cars coming in 2023

I absolutely hate that CCS is the standard and not the Tesla connector. I think Tesla did this to themselves by not making thir connector open and non-proprietary and offering it to anyone wanting to use it. By keeping it locked down they killed their superior connector themselves. Maybe they...

Effect of wider tires on range

So there are some reasons behind what you are saying and what I am saying which I think can make us both simultaneously correct for different reasons because we are talking about different things in a way. Rolling resistance is different than drag coefficient and the two have no direct...
  10. ApexProxy

Effect of wider tires on range

I'm quite certain wider tires increase rolling resistance. Look at any car built around maximum efficiency and you will find the thinnest tires. Wider tires are simply to increase grip when it's needed. The more rubber you have on the ground (with all other variables the same) the more energy...

    Phantom Braking

If you slammed on your brakes for no reason at all other than you felt like it on the freeway and you were hit, you would very likely be held liable as you created a hazard for no reason. Sure the other driver would likely be ticketed for being too close as well but you would likely be insurance...

    Snippiness 2.0

Possibly that specific battery since it's not a very good build. This does not hold for well built and properly constructed LiFePO4 replacement batteries. They do have real benefits. Lead acid batteries are ancient technology that has been ready for retirement for years.
  13. ApexProxy

Tesla Won't Install Ohmmu [aftermarket 12v battery]

That looks like a terrible design but odds are nothing would happen if one of those leads came desoldered aside from a loss of power. The potential for a short is there but even if you shorted those cells its unlikely they would do anything but get hot or blow one of the cell bridges. It's...

Confused between rear wheel vs long range

I have tested this to a degree. My car lives in Sport mode and regardless of turns or not so far it has always given me as much power as I have asked for in any situation. Some time soon I'll go out of my way to ask for an excessive amount as I exit a turn to see what it does, for science.

M3P Wider Tires on Stock Ubers?

Yeah, I'm targeting as close to oem diameter as possible no matter which tire I go with. That's why I was so interested in 275/35R20 because it has a flawless match in diameter. Too bad it's too wide to run in front without changing things.

    Tesla Tires at Costco

Discount Tire/America's Tire has been way above and beyond for me. Had a tire with a sidewall puncture ~40K miles into it's life but they replaced it outright for free in 20 minutes. I fully expected to pay for a replacement but they never even brought up proration or anything.

Apartment dweller (Irvine, CA) - is electric car a practical choice?

Superchargers do not charge you what they pay for the electricity. There is definitely quite a bit of added cost per kWh though there are definite overhead costs of operating the superchargers. I'd be surprised if the chargers are at a loss though.

    Phantom Braking

Rim swaps rarely effect ride hight more than an inch or so since total tire diameter rarely changes much. Combining a rim swap and some aftermarket suspension could add up to change a few inches in some cases though.

Effect of wider tires on range

I have thought about changing rims and I have some time to consider that while I run my current tires. I do like the look of the ubers but they definitely are stupid heavy so they are probably gonna go at some point. I may do my changes in stages since I'm going to have the car for a long time...

M3P Wider Tires on Stock Ubers?

Sadly, 265/30R20 looks like an uncommon size so I'm not seeing a good selection nor good prices. The info helps but I don't think I'll be going with that size though. I also just heard that 275/30 up front will require pushing out the offset and adding camber to avoid rubbing so it sounds like...

Effect of wider tires on range

Very helpful info but sadly about what I thought and I would prefer not to alter too much for now so it sounds like 275 is probably not a great idea. I looked at 265/30 but they look pretty uncommon, at least through Discount Tire and for convenience sake I guess I'll try out 255 first and see...

Effect of wider tires on range

You are just the person I have been looking for haha. I see that you are running 275/30 on the rear tires and I was considering running 275/30 all around but I am wondering why you chose a stagger and what your experience has been with those tires.

I haven't had anyone mention an echo problem per say but everyone can tell when I am using the car's audio vs direct to my phone. It seems kinda standard and has carried between all 3 of my cars so far. I wonder if the echo is a problem with a setting on your phone directly since to my...

Isn't 2 years the recommended maintenance interval for the filters? That seems to line up pretty well lol
  26. ApexProxy

Effect of wider tires on range

I suspect the wheel calibration/configuration is simply teaching the car your tire diameter so it can properly estimate speed and distance traveled. Could be wrong as I have not experimented but this seems logical.

M3P Wider Tires on Stock Ubers?

Thanks for the info guys. 255 does seem to have a surprising change and looks pretty good. Guess then it only leaves my dislike for changing diameter. I could get over it though lol

M3P Wider Tires on Stock Ubers?

Yeah, they are stock 235/35R20 though the sidewall has a very noticeable stretch to it.

M3P Wider Tires on Stock Ubers?

Yeah, my rims are definitely 20x9, should have mentioned that in my initial post. If I can get 275/30R20 without risking rubbing I will consider that a win but I'm also thinking about what that extra 16% width will do for efficiency.

OEM CCS adapter now available to order in North America, Retrofit for older cars coming in 2023

I think the gist of it is, arriving at a non tesla fast charger with a cooler pack is not really going to hurt the pack so much as cause charge speeds to be reduced. The rates should reduce down to a place where the pack will not be damaged by the cooler temperatures and the act of charging...

The Ryzens are supposed to be noticeably quicker on touch and general interface reaction times but I have no idea if there has been any change to throttle lag. M3P Wider Tires on Stock Ubers?

I have been looking around for tire options for my 2022 M3P with the stock 20" Uberturbines and I am considering wider tires. I am trying to decide the widest I can go without risking rubbing or making it as efficient as a Hummer EV. Right now I am looking at 275/30R20 as those would result in...

Confused between rear wheel vs long range

By handling I guess I meant an increased global amount of traction in every situation and improved control in turns. A RWD drivetrain given even the same WHP as a AWD drivetrain would be left in the dust in the frequent high speed turns of a street track due to its inability to distribute power...

Model 3 Performance (High Mileage Users)

A boosted LR does get quite a bit faster and the price isn't bad. The thing I like with the performance that I may take advantage of is selling my Uberturbines which are totally mint with 1K miles on them and buying some 20" EV01+ rims which will get me up to LR range and I think selling my...

Confused between rear wheel vs long range

AWD is the gold standard for handling. It can be used to prevent both understeer and oversteer as well as to put a lot more power down without traction loss.

What's the EV life like when Model 3 is the only car and drives 40k+ miles a year? Spoiler Alert, very long experience sharing

It is generally bad though I believe it's also pretty standard to be dual cooled now. I'm not sure of it's frequency of use but I know some use oil and coolant to keep the turbo cooler. I never see manuals for turbo cars that aren't high performance recommending any kind of cool down. I know my...

What is this headlight calibration setting mean? [not headlight, follow distance]

Tailgating is a rather loose term than can mean anything from an inch from the car in front to 2.99 seconds behind depending on what you consider it to be. That being said I am not saying its best to bump draft the car in front so nobody can ever get in front of you, that's dumb. What I am...

    Oil Filter on Motors

The whole case is aluminum and I would guess that several other locations, like the heat exchangers, are aluminum as well. My guess is the aluminum is less so from the main drivetrain wearing and more so from the surrounding parts. Though I do recall aluminum being a metal that is alloyed into...

    Oil Filter on Motors

Goodness, 10-15K sounds hugely excessive to me. ATF lasts significantly longer than ICE engine oil for several reasons. To replace ATF at near engine oil rates is just wasteful. I am considering a replacement at 50K when I may also switch to these Oil Cooler units from UP. That will also give...

I would expect the ATF to have a visible color so if not, maybe brake? I am curious to know what the SC says it is this time.
  47. ApexProxy

Confused between rear wheel vs long range

Very true. Though not everyone likes custom work for multiple reasons. That $10k upgrade suddenly becomes smaller if you talk about adding in $1500 in speakers, plus time. And you still don't get the main LR benefits.

What's the EV life like when Model 3 is the only car and drives 40k+ miles a year? Spoiler Alert, very long experience sharing

Auto stop systems are now proven to be very efficient and good long term. Starting a modern ICE uses no additional fuel than idling for a few seconds uses. As for lubrication, the time the engine sits off is not going to be long enough for oil to completely drain away and leave parts...

I would also recommend an in-person visit to get the changes made. Their text service is nice but sometimes feels like the person on the other side has too much on their plate to take much time on each individual. You can probably have it done faster and more reliably in person. As for SR vs...
