    Canada - FSD rollout

I have given up on the beta for this reason. I'll leave myself opted in, and maybe it'll come eventually, but I'm not significantly changing my driving anymore. I've been babying this thing for weeks and I'm stuck around 96. Not only do I have to deal with Toronto drivers and my own...

    Canada - FSD rollout

I'm sure that in addition to the score, there must be some minimum mileage or driving frequency. Driving around the block once and then parking it for 3 weeks doesn't seem like it would get you in. I have no idea how people can drive in the city and maintain 100/99. I drive so carefully, and...

    TeslaMate Super Thread

Right, I just did this: Advanced installation with Traefik, Let's Encrypt & HTTP Basic Auth | TeslaMate Pretty straightforward. Also setup a crontab to push the backups to Google Storage once a week and pull the latest Teslamate once a week.

    TeslaMate Super Thread

I have mine hosted in GCP securely with username/password and SSL. I don't remember what I did to do it, but it was about a year ago and took me an hour or something. Wasn't complicated, but I do this for a living. Currently costs me about $30 a month in hosting, but I don't really care...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I don't commute, and most of my trips are less than 20km, unless I go to visit family, then it's 200km+. But all other things being equal, I really prefer to keep it charged so that I can go on a long trip at a moments notice if necessary. I don't want to decide to go somewhere, and then...

how normal is it for center screen to crash and lose functionality?

Mine now crashes basically every time it comes out of deep sleep. Takes like 1 minute or so for it to fully reboot and get going. Haven't had it happen while driving on this one though. A rental Model 3 I got years ago did software crash while I was driving it.

    Model 3 - Remote reset

I think it's a bug. I've seen this too, many times. For me though, usually if I just wait longer, it actually connects. The error comes up, but the connection still happens if I wait a bit longer. In any case, I suspect it'll be fixed eventually.

Can't sign into YouTube - Plex fix not working

Looks like it still doesn't work for me. I think it's because my MFA is configured to use a USB key by default, and then fallback to the phone prompt. The dialog for the fallback option never appears in the car browser, it just spins forever trying to locate the hardware key. Tesla doesn't...

Can't sign into YouTube - Plex fix not working

This is what I expected was necessary. There were some details in the MFA docs about how it's more strict with login safety, so I assumed this would be necessary. Once you have MFA disabled, there is also the option of "allow less secure apps" which may also let you get in. But in both cases...

Deciding on rear window tint with/without forward roof tint. Any pics/opinions?

For me it's much less about minimizing light/UV and more about privacy and the look of it. I would be interested in the seeing the photo you referenced, though it seems to be private. I just get a permissions error.

Deciding on rear window tint with/without forward roof tint. Any pics/opinions?

After driving it around in strong sunlight for awhile and seeing it externally in that light, I definitely think I'm going to fully tint the rear window to 35%. IMO it looks too transparent compared to the sides now and not weird, but could be better.

Windshield wipers are horrible, and arguably dangerous

In my case, they seem to work ok sometimes, but then just freak out and go to 100% at others. Especially in the snow. Mild to moderate snow seems to make them go to full speed. I think it's just another case of them thinking they can get by using ML for everything, where in this case, there is...

    USB 32 Gig inadequate

Maybe they started with the 64GB ones and then switched at some point. Mine is an early VIN in the batch, and I thought it was weird that they only sell the 128GB in the Tesla store.

Windshield wipers are horrible, and arguably dangerous

Tried them for the first time yesterday. Auto is not usable. Manually setting them by pushing the button on the stalk and selecting the speed on the screen is fine. My 2010 Mazda 3 had sucky electronics in virtually every area. Some of the worst car electronics. But the rain sensing wipers...

    Aftermarket instrument cluster

This seems like the sort of thing that looks interesting in a demo. Functions less well once you get it. Quickly stops getting software updates. And then is eventually rendered completely unusable by a Tesla update. Meanwhile you voided your warranty splicing it into the CAN bus during...

    USB 32 Gig inadequate

Sentry events are about 1.5 GB each. I had 14 events in a couple weeks, and combined with the 1 hr of recent video it ate up about half of the 64 GB that came with my 2021. Tesla sells a rebranded one of these in it's store...

Tesla Winter Tires still "Enroute" after 3 weeks

Incidentally, I'm starting to suspect the missing Tesla Winter Tires was more of a communication failure than a shipping failure. Based on what I've read elsewhere, it might have been possible that these winter tires are already stocked at Service Centers in the GTA, and they just didn't tell...

Tesla Winter Tires still "Enroute" after 3 weeks

New tires, use Tesla service appointment option using tesla app

Wish this was the case in Canada. Getting a new car and having it delivered with summer tires in December, at -7C, and then having to park it until I can buy/install winters somewhere is frustrating. Should have just come with them from the delivery center.

PPF/Paint Protection Advice. Partial or Full?

From what I've heard, the issue with frequent paint correction on these cars is that the paint is extremely thin. There was a guy on the detailing subreddit saying he refused to even polish a brand new Tesla after seeing how thin the paint was. On top of that, you aren't going to easily "paint...

PPF/Paint Protection Advice. Partial or Full?

I covered the whole front with PPF, and then ceramic over everything. I went with that, not to save money on PPF (although it is pretty pricey for full-car PPF), but because feel like I want heavy protection for the front, but would rather not wrap the rest in plastic if I can avoid it.

    Sentry Cam Thoughts

I had no idea how many people brush against, almost hit, or hit my car all the time. It's crazy-making to watch afterwards. Yelling "watch what you're doing!" at a recording. Even with ample space around the car, people manage to still brush against it or hit it with bags. It does use a fair bit...

You know what, I just noticed I also have the same problem. I only noticed it once 2020.48.26 came out. I hadn't checked too often prior to that, but since then it's happened a couple of times. The first time I restarted the car to bring it back, but now it seems that just removing and...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I probably only drive about once a week at this point, and probably only to the grocery store or similar. Maybe less. Thinking only in terms of what's best for the battery, should I leave it charging continuously, set a scheduled charge and allow it to fluctuate a bit, or does it even matter...

Agreed. Either something is wrong with the USB stick or with the port itself. Most likely the USB stick. I'd test it by swapping it. Buy something designed for high-write load like this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07P4HBRMV/ And an adapter like this...

TSportline Wheel Duties and Border fees

V11 is going to be HUGE!

Decided to cancel the winter tires from Tesla as I couldn't get any kind of answer on when they would arrive. Deciding on rear window tint with/without forward roof tint. Any pics/opinions?

The only other option that would still look nice IMO would be to put 35% tint on the front and rear roof along with the 20% on the sides. That would preserve some visibility out the rear, while still tinting a bit and keeping the look consistent across the roof. But after the horror stories...

Deciding on rear window tint with/without forward roof tint. Any pics/opinions?

In the end I went with 20% on the sides, and no tint on the rear window. And after seeing the result it was definitely the right call for me. The side windows are dark enough that from the outside they look to be close to the same tint as the roof. Not quite as dark but the feeling is...

V11 is going to be HUGE!

I'm just saying that it's clear the level of concern put into the app does not match the level of concern put into their cars. Another issue today, if you're in the service chat the keyboard covers the input field and you can't see what you're typing. So I had to type the responses elsewhere...

V11 is going to be HUGE!

I use a Pixel 5. It feels very poorly designed from a UI/UX perspective. Some points: - the spinner modal at the bottom blocks way more of the screen than necessary. Something small in the corner would get the same idea across without being so intrusive - If it can't directly contact the car at...

V11 is going to be HUGE!

I'm a new owner, and the existing mobile app is kinda gross and buggy. Really looking forward to an update.
  48. ehacke

    Always Be Connected?

Absolutely. I just mean that there is no real need to worry about leaving it plugged in. Plenty of people do it, likely the majority of owners, and it doesn't hurt the car.
  49. ehacke

    Always Be Connected?

One thing is that every time you open the app it wakes up the car, starting a number of systems and increasing drain. Like waking your laptop from sleep. Beyond that, I wouldn't overthink it. Tesla recommends to just leave it plugged into a power source. That's basically what everyone does and...

Tesla Winter Tires still "Enroute" after 3 weeks

Fun update. Used the chat on the Contact Us page to see if I could get more details. Turns out even though the tires are listed as "En Route" they actually have not even been shipped yet. They are having someone from the Commerce Team contact me about it. But doesn't sound promising.
