    Unique 'Tesla'

Interesting comment. It’s mine #543, getting annual service plus air conditioning repair (waiting for parts).

    Tesla Roadster 2010 Power Limit

Re-did the test again, this time without being plugged in. No change. Actually says 31.8bar (around 500 psi, I think). I can hear what sounds like fan or pump near the compressor. VDS shows 1.5-1.8A pump current. Anyone have an idea which fuse(s) to check? There’s none labeled for HVAC the...

    Tesla Roadster 2010 Power Limit

Did that and checked the VDS which showed temp at cabin vents a degree warmer than ambient, pre-refrigerant pressure 32bar, and compressor speed 0rpm. So either 32bar is too low for the compressor to kick on, or the compressor has gone bad, I think.

    Tesla Roadster 2010 Power Limit

Thanks for your feedback. PEM and motor temps were not high per the VDS, so I’m going to first on checking out the A/C and avoid long drives until I confirm A/C to be working, since the PEM and motor are air cooled while the battery takes advantage of the A/C cooling. It’s time for an annual...

    Tesla Roadster 2010 Power Limit

I too have a 2010 (#543) and recently have had a max brick temp too high/power limited message pop up after about 100 miles continuous driving on mid 80's sunny day driving at 50-60mph back roads highway driving. Top was down, so I can't say whether there was an aircon issue or not. I haven't...

Roadster Service E-Mail Poll and info

I received the email today. I picked up #543 last year (Aug 2018) and about 13000 miles ago courtesy of some great guys down in Texas.

Roadster JVC radio won't turn off

It turns out that removing the "Starter Switch - ACC" fuse (#14) turned the radio off and cleared the condition. Somehow, it seems the software in the radio got confused and it decided to go non-responsive no matter what you did to the buttons. I didn't know how to removed the faceplate, but...

Roadster JVC radio won't turn off

I came home today after work, removed my key and the radio stayed on. I've pulled the radio and the amp fuse, but the radio kept playing even with the fuses out. The controls on the radio are unresponsive, so something has fritzed and needs to be reset, but I'm not sure how to do that since...

    Normal PEM temp while charging?

A related question that I think was answer by DeedWest response. It's sunny out, clear skies, 93F. I'm running around doing chores on roads at 40-60mph, sitting at stoplights in the sun, ending up at Home Depot parking lot where I find a spot under a shade tree (unusual). PEM temp is 50C (last...

    Recommendations for phone holder?

Here’s how I did it. The metal plate is held on with Velcro tape pads. The magnetic thing is one other the things that sticks in a dash vent that I took a Dremel tool and smoothed the prongs off of, then epoxied to the metal plate which had the velco pad on the other side. The iPod connector...

New Member Looking for a Roadster

In my case, I took ownership of 504 last August and used 120V for about 3 months, easily replacing the 20-30% of the battery that I used as a result of my typical 40mile commute. And as a new owner I obsessed quite a bit over charging efficiency, finding that it was typically only 50-60% by...

What did you park next to? (Or what makes the Roadster look tiny?)

Does this count? See the difference in color? Maybe one spawned the other. :)

10 amp charging better or worse?

hope so, but will see after I get 240V to use with my new UMC and CAN SR.

10 amp charging better or worse?

Nerd question: are SOC% values relative to absolute 100% (as in what is displayed for range mode) or relative to standard mode where 100%~85% absolute and 0%~10% absolute. Relates to "coolant pump always on above 90% SOC).

10 amp charging better or worse?

Since I've adopted the car only last month, temps have been in the 85-95F range and I've seen my trip usage typically around 9kWh and my charging cost around 17kWh (with 120V/15A). In the last 3 days, it's been raining quite a bit and last night, temps dropped below 70F. So, over the weekend, by...

10 amp charging better or worse?

thank you, I'm quite pleased with the car and especially with the adoption process led by HSull8915 and DeedWest and the care poured into the car by them before that. Two, really, really great TMC podners in the Lone Star state. Doing my own tinkering and learning now (charging stuff learning...

10 amp charging better or worse?

My research seems to indicate that the biggest thing that impacts battery lifetime (lifetime defined as runtime approximately 80% of what it is new. For us, estimated or ideal range after a charge) is depth of charge with 90% depth of discharge (DoD) resulting in about 50% lifetime compared to...

10 amp charging better or worse?

My research indicates that lower amperage is a bit better for the battery lifetime. Not exact numbers, but lower amperage might increase lifetime from something like 80,000 miles (mostly depends on depth of discharge that you typically do) to 82, 000 miles. However, the longer duration of...

New User looking for advise on roadster purchase

understand. I went to the service center on a Saturday morning at 10 to chat with a tech and the parking lot at the service center was packed. The tech was friendly, and looked up some things for me, but said they couldn't do anything that would help determine if the battery was good or not, but...

New User looking for advise on roadster purchase

Hi, Any ideas who besides Tesla can replace a bad sheet of batteries and know what it might cost to do so? I’m in northern Virginia (McLean).

New User looking for advise on roadster purchase

thanks, I found an article and forwarded it to the dealer. Since, ideal range is calculated based on CAC via a linear formula, it's not clear to me how CAC info might convey different information. I can see however that the brick voltage variations would be useful to know as that would help...

New User looking for advise on roadster purchase

Car is in Memphis area, I'm in northern Virgina (McLean). Had the reading been 170ish, I would have already made an offer or taken a trip to Memphis. I'm ok with the BMC calibration being off, or with balancing being needed. But I'm skittish about a bad cell that might get worse soon, not...

New User looking for advise on roadster purchase

thanks, the current owner is a non-Tesla dealership, and I'll need to explain to him how to do that. Isn't ideal range just a calculation that is based on CAC of the battery, which is also an estimate that is subject to BMC calibration ... or more significantly weak cells?

New User looking for advise on roadster purchase

Hello, I'm looking at a 2010 roadster with 16k miles that looks good except that it's standard mode ideal range only shows 150miles when battery assembly including remanufactured ESS 2.0 was replaced in April 2017 with only about 2000 miles on it since then. Should I be concerned about the...
