    Comprehensive USB Bug List

Hey! I've tried every incantation otherwise mentioned in all these forums, and that's the first time one worked. Thank you, oh thank you @Kevy Baby ! Still not quite right, but at least it's something and I think I can mostly enjoy USB music again. I note that the USB icon doesn't appear...

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

It's crazy -- I just installed 2022.40.4.1, and the announcement page said exactly one thing: Radio station logos are now... fixed, or better or something. This is the only fix that Tesla thought was worth calling out on the install, and yet they still can't make USB start where it left off...

    2014 tesla s 12v dies in 5min

Well, I came home and the car started and drove fine. Everything seems to work, no notifications. Hmm. The notification I got was not specific to the 12v battery, so now I'm a little suspicious of other problems. I was able to look in where the battery is (hidden in the corner behind the...

    2014 tesla s 12v dies in 5min

I'm not too sure; I've only had the car 2 years but it has 360k miles on it. Ug, just got a quote and updated appointment from the SC. First they were going to send out a mobile tech on Monday. Then they sent this attached quote and said that I need to have the car towed in because of...

    2014 tesla s 12v dies in 5min

This sounds almost exactly the problem I'm having. It just started recently, after the 2022.26(?).2 release. Now I'm getting a warning that the car is undrivable, won't start, and it sure seems like the 12v battery is dead or near dead. Pushing on the brake pedal has the usually short sound...

    Mobile Connector GFCI Tripped

Good news on the $200 mobile charger! Bad news, now out of stock. I don't know how old this charger is; could be 8 years but I've only owned the car for 2. The mobile charger wasn't used by the previous owner, who kept his wall charger.

    2022.24

No fix for USB music in 2022.24.5. The only thing that appeared on my list of improvements was something to do with saving favorites with the driver profile or something (my '14 S 85 doesn't even have profiles). No mention of the slightly (just enough to be annoying) redesign of the speedo...

Anybody know if 2022.24.5 fixes USB music non-continue problem?
  10. C

    Mobile Connector GFCI Tripped

Ugh, I'm having the same problem, but only intermittently also. I hate to spend $400 on a new cord just because the GFCI in the cord is getting flaky, but I guess they're not fixable. Nice revenue stream I guess, GFCIs (in outlets that get used regularly) don't last forever. One weird thing is...

    V11 2022.4.5 doesn't remember USB source

Another complaint here about the USB music-resume cockup. Apparently USB music is just one of those features they don’t care about. Their software QA is my number 1 warning for future Tesla buyers. I can’t believe anyone would trust Tesla‘s software engineering for something like FSD.

2015 Model S USB ports inop.

My 2014 that I bought in 2020 had one dead port. Turned out to be the actual port itself - they have a built-in fuse for over-current protection. I was able to take the center console apart and put in a new port from eBay. It wasn’t simple. The only other possibility is that the ports got...
  13. C

Dear God, what is this thing?

I agree that the 2020.20.7 version is a lot of moving stuff around to no advantage. Bit what’s really annoying is stuff that broke. For me, the worst thing is broken USB music resume playback. Now, once I leave the car when USB music is playing, when I come back there is nothing but a QR code...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Saga ending - car back, TuneIn works, all my favorites are there. Had to return the rather nice 100D with all the fixin's. They said they had to pull the MCU2 to fix it. I expect a factory reset would have done it too, but I'm glad to have all my favorites there. Besides the apparent lack of...

10+ minutes to start my "old" tesla is just an inconvenience b/c I chose to do the eMMC recall and install firmware updates

Yeah, I'm certainly concerned about it. I think they come with 6mo warranty? If so, I could have had them replace it, but I'd still be stuck with my slimed IC display ($1500 I think they quoted), so I popped for the MCU2 upgrade instead.
  16. C

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Incredible. Here's the update: So after their "senior technician" flobbled around with the same buttons anyone would, not seeing "TuneIn" and then (apparently, making it up on the spot) claiming that the MCU2 upgrade didn't include TuneIn and it would be "three or four hundred dollars more"...

California. I think these guys just don't know what they're doing. He literally pointed to a place under the left side of the dash where "a tuner" goes. Like TuneIn is some hardware feature. My service rep from yesterday, who concluded after contacting someone higher up that it was...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Wow, okay, saga continues. I am still sitting in the lobby of the Tesla SC. After an hour, they brought the car around and said that "TuneIn is a separate upgrade." WTF? No mention of that in the MCU2 upgrade docs, and no mention when I signed up. I think the guy is blatantly wrong. They...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Is the screen still under warranty though? The eMMC is a recall forced by NHTSA. I had an IC (instrument console, driver screen) "bleed" that had goop slowing filling the screen, and also the dreaded brown/yellow edge on the main screen -- which was only a few months old. It was replaced with...

10+ minutes to start my "old" tesla is just an inconvenience b/c I chose to do the eMMC recall and install firmware updates

I have to largely agree. My eMMC replacement went fine - everything was much faster (except the web browser, which was still inexplicably slow and nearly useless), USB music was magically fixed, and no more weekly reboots and weird hangs. But then my IC screen starting bleeding goo down the...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Much thanks, will give that a try unless I hear something better from the SC today (who is, amazingly, still in contact with me). I'm hoping they might be able to push-fix it, like maybe it's a feature flag that has gone unset. I'll update here, this seems like maybe the wrong thread but it...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Wow, okay -- when you say "factory reset" do you mean something other than two-thumb salute? I just got a message from the SC that it should be on the (entertainment)Settings->Sources menu, and it ain't. Spotify, Tidal, the useless SiriusXM, but no TuneIn. I shall go drive the car to lunch...

Thanks for all those tips. Good news & bad. The "good" news is that I tested all those things before paying -- and FM radio didn't work. "But I tested it yesterday!" said the tech. Yeah, that test was apparently done before complete reassembly; the cord had pulled out on the last step when...

Taking in my car for MCU2 this morning. Besides having them verify that FM works when they're done (thanks for that) if anyone has other suggestions I'd love to hear them. Frustrated with Tesla Service Quotes

I'm finding the same thing. Got a quote for replacing struts; first quote was ~$2500, then a revised quote that was actually lower (~$1400) because they said they only needed to do two, then the final bill was $2200. Unfortunately, I didn't download the $1400 quote, so when I complained it was...

Older Model S A/C Service Considerations

Many thanks for this thread -- I've had my a/c recharged once, about a year ago, and now it's back to poor cooling. Could be a leak, but I'll see about getting the desiccant bag replaced first. That is, if my SC doesn't tell me I need a whole new system/compressor/etc. We have recently had an...

Thanks, Mike. I'll bring their attention to that and then I guess pop for the upgrade. When they did the eMMC upgrade, they replaced my center screen without cost or mention! It was great - except now, just a few months later, it has yellow edges. Also, my IC screen started to bleed glue or...

I just got my eMMC upgrade after bringing in my car because of a parking brake issue (turned out to be connector / cable). eMMC recall replacement - had 3G to LTE modem replaced for parts cost

Quick correction: The SC got back to me, and has scheduled replacement of the eMMC! I really should just upgrade to MCU2, but since this is free (and I already have 4G, and actually like having FM) then I'm just going to see how this goes. Maybe I'll upgrade around the end of the year if they...

eMMC recall replacement - had 3G to LTE modem replaced for parts cost

Just got an estimate for fixing the error message "Parking brake not fully engaged" (one side seems kaput) -- $1400; that cost assumes replacement of both calipers. When I asked about the eMMC recall fix, I got crickets.

    Parking brake electrical/electronic issue?

Hi Ralph. I assume you got your issue fixed. I'm having a similar problem, with a "parking brake not fully functional" message on the dash. For a couple of days, it seemed like both parking brakes were engaging fine, now it seems like only the right side brake is engaging. I got an estimate...

Sure hope I have better luck with the "voluntary recall". My problems have been on the increase lately (2014 with 342k MI) but still not as bad as many. Reboots are mostly dependent on how often I use USB music, which I've mostly been avoiding lately. I'll let them do the eMMC (free) upgrade...

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

Hoping this is a good thread to ask this question; couldn't find it easily in the 107 pages of the thread (it's probably in here somewhere): When does the (MCU1, fwiw) build the music index? On my newly-inserted USB stick (128GB stick w/~115GB of MP3-only files), I sometimes can go straight to...

Tesla now repairing MCU1 with a new Tegra card for less than $500

My 2014 Model S 85 goes in to the Marin Co. California service center Friday for what I called in as MCU problems, reboots, slowness, etc. Hoping they’ve ordered the part and can do the job. Will report back with experience.

Sounds like I must have an “MCU0” 1004777, I did an LTE upgrade earlier this year. So the good news is that there’s a part number for a Tegra board with new eMMC chip. I think I’ll check and see if my local SC (San Rafael CA) can find it. thanks, tga!

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

In all fairness, the Tech package had a lot more in it than the power liftgate. I think keyless entry (which I believe requires additional hardware as well), Navigation, Homelink, parking sensors (also hardware), and probably some features I've missed. I just don't want my MCU1 to go dead (and...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Aha. Thanks very much @MP3Mike. One wonders why the absence of a power liftgate would make such an upgrade impossible, but much of my experience thus far with Tesla seems to follow similar illogic, if answers can be found at all.
  47. C

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

When did you upgrade? Did you just request it from the app? My 2014 85 has zero optional features, I'm wondering if there is something about the base model that prevents it from being upgraded or if their "your car can't be upgraded" response was just a timing issue with availability.
  48. C

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Has anyone with a *2014* upgraded to MCU2? When I checked about two months ago about it, they simply said "your car is not upgradable". This has led me down the road to tackling an eMMC upgrade, since it has not been verified anywhere that the "rebuilt" MCU1 units have an improved eMMC and...
