    1up USA Bike Rack

I leave a single heavy duty on full time in the storage position. Sensors are by far the biggest downside. Mostly the annoying beeping when going in reverse. I’ve gotten used to the warnings when driving. Otherwise it’s pretty fine. Slightly in the way when using the trunk but minor.

    1up USA Bike Rack

Yea I held onto mine for a month before deciding it was good. The return was easy with a prepaid label. Just took them about a week to process once received.

    1up USA Bike Rack

No, bought it and returned it. Was nervous about how close the rack sits to the car without it, thought for sure it’d bounce and hit on the highway. But once I had it installed in person it was clear it’s very solid and shouldn’t happen.

    1up USA Bike Rack

I haven’t used the Equip D but the handle to raise and lower it when on the car looks a lot nicer than the super duty mechanism. I bought the super duty, and it’s a bit more compact when raised up which I prefer since it’s attached all the time, but it’s kind of a pain to fold up and down.

If you remove the black spacer you’ll see they’re the same length, or at least close. I moved the spacer over to the new lock.

Can confirm, 1up is mailing me their new model Y lock today.

    1up USA Bike Rack

Does that have the extender and hitch pushed in as far as possible? Sticks pretty far out. I have the same setup arriving tomorrow to try.

Website says 4-5 weeks to ship. I checked a few days ago and they confirmed that’s accurate.

    365 days of Solar Roof

With NEM, since I’m generating more than consuming overall, the powerwalls are actually costing me money due to the efficiency losses going in and out of them. I’d get a little more back at the annual true-up without them. But for all the other reasons cited above I’m glad to have them.

    365 days of Solar Roof

It's been 365 days since I received PTO on my 10.52kW solar roof. Here's some stats on how the roof has performed. I'm quite happy with this, especially considering how much the California wildfires impacted production. Production estimate: 12,494 kWh Production actual: 13,995 kWh (12% over...

That was fast, but now what?

Took delivery of 157*** factory direct yesterday. Some minor nicks and protective wrap bits left behind but looking pretty good so far.

LR MY 19" vs 20" efficiency measured

An often asked question is how do the 20" induction wheels impact efficiency compared to the 19" gemini wheels. I found a handful of anecdotal accounts of people driving long ranges with both wheels to compare, but no well controlled experiments. To gather some better data I test drove two LR...

    1up USA Bike Rack

For those who have the super duty or quik rack and hitch extender, how far does the rack now sit from the bumper? My guess is around 5". Would be nice to come up with a solution that's more than a few mm but less than 5". Seems like 1.25" quick rack plus hitch reducer may help enable that by...

Solar Glass Repair / Replacing Tiles

The original install crew was long gone but I was able to reach out to my PM directly and she had a few local guy come out to do the work. Leaks seem to be fixed now
  19. E

Solar Glass Repair / Replacing Tiles

After my install was complete they had to come back and pull up quite a few tiles to redo a flat roof section due to leaks. No tiles cracked in the process. They did manage to leave scratch gouges in the underside of some tiles due to lazy handling. I had them come back and replace those with...

    Solar Roof Installation Tips

That’s what happened to me. My roof was pretty early on, before the ‘100 roof surge’. They definitely intended the $0 gutter line to mean no gutters but when I grilled them on it they caved and tossed them in.
  22. E

    Solar Roof Installation Tips

My roof installers strongly recommended the deeper gutter. They said since water runs fast off the glass and the solar tiles sit higher up than traditional shingles it would be easy to overshoot the shallower gutter. That said I’ve heard a few people with the fascia gutters say they perform fine.

Solar Roof vs Panels kWh / yr

The energy density, say kw/sqft, seems to be less with solar roof. So I wonder if the 13.7kW is equally split up across the same roof planes, or more of it is on sub-optimal planes with solar roof. That’s my guess.

Affect of heat & cold on Solar Glass ?

Sounds like something is wrong unless you have significant shading or no south facing PV tiles. Might want to check the inverter read outs during the day. I have 10.52kW v3 in San Jose and got 65-69kWh the past 3 days. About 50% south, 35% east, 15% west facing PV tiles.
  25. E

Affect of heat & cold on Solar Glass ?

That’s interesting since for my v3 they said a ridge vent was required and they installed it. The airflow and coolness of my attic since the v3 was installed has been unexpectedly fantastic.

Fire Department stopped by to look at SolarGlass roof

+1 walking all over solar roof no problem. Didn’t receive any official guidance or documentation. None of the crews that worked on it gave any indication to stay off it, other than when wet.

Need gutters....on a wait list for solar glass roof

Yea I heard gutters were included with V2 roofs, and some early V3s, but are no longer.

Need gutters....on a wait list for solar glass roof

They had no issue installing my solar roof without touching the gutters. I did happen to have them replaced afterwards but wasn’t necessary. The installers recommended to go for larger gutters since the solar roof sits higher and water runs faster off of it.

    Solarglass Roof - V3 - any customers?

Depends on the definition of completion. I got PTO 8 days after the request to PG&E was submitted. It look Tesla 9 days to submit for TPO after final inspection passed. It took many weeks to get the inspections scheduled with the city.
  30. E

    Solarglass Roof - V3 - any customers?

It’s a flat section of roof, special material called TPO is used.

Delta M8-TL-US free from too high frequency for UPS issue?

I asked my electrical crew about the 65Hz thing and said they had no idea and couldn’t set it anyways. Nice they offered to submit a ticket for you. I’m waiting to hear back on a tier2 ticket to trim the low end, running at 59.5Hz when off grid and screwing with the clocks.

Which gutters would/did you pick for a Solarglass roof?

Tesla subcontracts the gutter installs out to another company. In the Bay Area it seems to typically be acme roofing, that’s who I worked with. They installed the mesh. I’m not sure if that’s standard or because I complained the roof crew threw out my old leaf guards.

Which gutters would/did you pick for a Solarglass roof?

    As requested. Look fine
  36. E

Which gutters would/did you pick for a Solarglass roof?

My roof installer crew strongly recommended the 6” based on their past experiences. Said between the roof sitting ~1.5” higher off the gutters now, and the slick surface for fast moving water, it can overshoot 4-5” gutters. I’m having the 6” installed today actually, hopefully they don’t look...

Solarglass Roof - Bay Area - how long to wait?

This was my timeline in the bay area: 10/27/19 - Ordered online 11/21/19 - Received design proposal 12/07/19 - Signed contract 01/10/20 - Install scheduled 01/22/20 - Install started So just shy of 3 months from initial order to install start. Including the holidays and 2 weeks of me stalling...

    Solarglass Roof - V3 - any customers?

Talked to the crew, the tiles are expected to carry 90+% of the rain. No gasket/lip like on v2. There's the 1.5-2" of row-to-row overlap I previously mentioned, and a 2" piece that underlaps the gap between end-to-end tiles to carry water as well.
  39. E

    Solarglass Roof - V3 - any customers?

Shots are from @Saizzz, not me. Although I'm also running a time-lapse. I've got a GoPro mounted high in a tree with a GorillaPod in the front yard, running off a 13Ah USB battery. I had tried a 9Ah battery but found it only lasted about 7 hours, not enough if the crew is working sun up to sun...
  40. E

    Solarglass Roof - V3 - any customers?

It's a metal brake. On v2 they custom cut the tiles to fit exactly. On v3 they have a handful of fractional sized tiles they combine to get close to the right length and then do custom metalwork to fill in the remaining gaps.
  41. E

    Solarglass Roof - V3 - any customers?

Did you learn any more about the gutters? I have the same line item in my contract but HQ told the on-site installers not to touch them.

    Solarglass Roof - V3 - any customers?

woferry’s coworker here! We’re on track to start Thursday. Got bumped a day due to scheduling issues with the crew. Apparently there’s an east coast crew in NY. They’re flying out to do my roof since weather is holding them up on projects back there.

Model 3 Roof Rack Options - Comparing Efficiencies

It may have been a one time exception when I was having a lot of defect issues early on, but Tesla did send me additional protection pads separately. Cutting your own from PPF is probably a much easier path forwards though.

    Model 3 Roof Rack Options

I tried adding a Yakima fairing to my FatCat 6 but it didn’t help the noise. It actually seemed to make it worse because the Yakima fairing is fairly short and left a thin gap between the fairing and the rack setup for wind to whistle through. I only tested it closely with boards loaded, the...

Installing the official Tesla model 3 roof rack

I've had two racks, shipped on 12/21 and around 1/20. Both have J-hooks without notches. I've only installed the first rack, and only had it on for a week or two, but the J-hooks did not crack. Tightened to 8Nm, heard uncomfortable noises as I went, but all appeared well. I recently asked Tesla...

Model 3 Roof Rack Options - Comparing Efficiencies

Whoops, sorry for the late replies, I had been getting email notifications and they stopped coming in. That's a great idea, I should try two base to base, I did not try that. Something like that, it's interesting how little of an impact the rack on it's own does. Assuming all things linear...

Model 3 Roof Rack Options - Comparing Efficiencies

I do have a small carbo box actually, haven't tried it yet, but probably can once ski season slows down. Not sure actually if the u-bolts on it are wide enough to get around the Tesla rails, may need some custom modification.
