    Model S Plaid - 19" vs 21" - All Season vs Summer Tires - Ride Quality/Performance/Tire Wear - Thoughts?

Keep it about the load rating of your tire. Tesla has always historically underspec’d its 21” option on the S. There is not a single 21” owner I know personally who hasn’t had cracked rims and blown tires because of a large pothole. A car with a gvwr of 5600 lbs needs a minimum 102 load rating...

    Other ev manufacturer oem tires

I found out from a friend who owns a racing outfit that Tirerack undercuts prices by 20-30% all the time and the manufacturers are pissed off due to dropping sale margins and fighting back by not releasing all options to tirerack. Also found out that despite the last 3 years and Covid, the big...

Fvuk it! I’m going Pirelli :) Someone reminded me that this is is not the time to make rational decisions! Also if I don’t try it, I’ll never know And my goal is to wear out said Pirellis before November this year… before the all seasons go back on!

    Other ev manufacturer oem tires

Update - even my tire and alignment guy tells me the Michelin ps4s are much better than the Pirelli pZ4 . Dammit. I don’t understand why I’m so fixated on the elect badge on a tire when every review / advice I’ve gotten is that the elect badge just means poorer wet braking / handling. Is it...

    Other ev manufacturer oem tires

It doesn’t look like I’m going to get actual experience from anyone. There must be such a small number of people with 20”. Anyway, I ordered the MB oem Pirelli elect tires in my size. Nobody else has that size in an elect tire.

    Other ev manufacturer oem tires

Yes yes this is total over complication. I’ll let you in on a little secret - tire manufacturers make new sizes when a car manufacturer asks for it. :)

Physical measurements of Variable Suspension show that you’re NOT getting the ride you call for.

Hmm. I’m curious now. My cubby lights were backwards… then they needed to replace the entire cubby to fix a simple light switch. Got that done many months ago

That’s ok! I don’t read the full OP’s message frequently either before I respond :) 2021+ model S again. And 20” oem width wheels again. But to tirerack, I think something is going on with them and Pirelli. Quite a few of the Pirelli elect tires that are actually in production (4159300 and...

Physical measurements of Variable Suspension show that you’re NOT getting the ride you call for.

I have been following this for a while now but never got the chance to test it until today. I’ve gotta say that my comfort mode feels comfortable/ squishy. my sport mode feels much firmer. Also the advanced mode all the way to firm is firmer than sport mode. Yea the damping % numbers are...

With a lot of new ev models out there, there are also a lot of other manufacturer oem tires available. For those of us who’ve gone to say 20” wheels on the new S (2021+), has anyone tried the 20” options from say Pirelli or Michelin? Here’s two Pirelli pZ4 ELECT I found that are for Mercedes...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

That’s true. Jova wheels is quite interesting. Irrespective, I firmly believe the only way out of the 21” tire problem is to move away from 21 altogether.

Martian Wheels is running a special on its forged 20” wheels for the Plaid. Excellent price in case someone was on the fence about switching over to 20s

@Bull so if I’m understanding what you did, you moved the subframe away 3mm from the wheel that had more camber towards the other side. Right? And all this through the play in the mounting holes? Interesting that there’s be so much play in it. Wonder if it’s by intentional design or shabby design.

20” Cyberstream Wheels on Model S

I don’t think the oem 21s will enhance driving character over the 19s, rather they will hurt it because the 21” oem tire / wheel combo is heavier than the 19”. Now if you are going to get aftermarket forged 21” wheels that are lighter than the oem cast 19” wheels, then yes you will see handling...

20” Cyberstream Wheels on Model S

Other than the obvious opportunity to rotate wheels on a square setup (which I don’t believe is needed on a dual motor car as the wear is uniform), the choice as you’ve laid out is a difference in driving styles and efficiency results Driving styles - the 285 in the front will make steering...

20” Cyberstream Wheels on Model S

Correction in my calculations Oem refresh S has a 40 offset in the front, 45 offset in the rear. The 20” cyberstreams offsets are a 40 front / 35 rear. This means the front pokes out 6mm more and is 6mm away from the strut The rear pokes out 3mm more and is 16mm away from the strut. Still no...

20” Cyberstream Wheels on Model S

This is most interesting. The offset of these wheels is 5mm less than the oem refresh S but the reduction in width by a half inch for the fronts and rears means these new wheels will have an inner rim which is 11.4mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 1.3mm less...

21 inch mich all season tires for 2022 with arachnoids

With all due respect to Discount tire, they don’t know what load rating of the tire is. With a 98 front load rating, you may be calling them for a replacement the first pothole you hit. Now unfortunately there isn’t an all seasons tire that is 21” wheel, 28.5” max diameter and a load rating of...

    bleeding our brakes

I was looking at stahlbus bleeder valves to make brake bleeding a snap without introducing any air (Venturi effect or pedal induced). Stahlbus doesn’t have the dimensions for the new 2021+ model S bleeder valves. Anybody here know this?

    bleeding our brakes

Yep have the MPP cylinder brace as well. Yes I went with UP braided lines. As for using too high pressure, I was using 15psi. But I have a feeling that the reason it only happens on the rears is because the pressure actually reduces in the lines due to line resistance. It’s sort of like a beer...

    bleeding our brakes

Just replaced my brake lines with stainless steel ones. Then used a motive bleeder (pressure, not vacuum). The rear brakes were doing tiny bubbles unendingly! I must have cycled 4L of brake fluid total through just the rears. What the heck! Then I pumped the brake pedal 3-4 times per corner -...

Front Parking Camera - My $150 / 15 min. installed Solution

I’m saying that the front curb protection for the front lip is also being addressed in software - the suspension raises now when it sees a curb when parking. However, given that I’m salivating over my new UP front diffuser and I’d hate to bust it when it comes with one careless parking job, I...

    Plaid tire failure

I would highly recommend up to 0.1 toe IN as the suspension now has a lot of rubber bushings that actually twist into a toe OUT around curves. Makes the rear a bit squirrelly Happens on LOW or if you’ve gone lower using lowering links

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Here’s some data that may interest you people. The 19” Tesla oem tires are a load rating of 104F / 107R. The 21” Tesla tires are at 101F / 102R The rear lamination problem is on the 21”, not the 19”. Now some of us who have 20” wheels also don’t have the same problem because our (my) tires are...

The difference was that the car was handling around turns / curves so much more better at -2 ish all round, so I have stayed at that level. 2022 MS cold draft on driver side door, very uncomfortable during Canadian winter

I guess we have different philosophies about continuing to live with a problem or doing something about it. FWIW, my October 2021 build - I did have a service appointment early to fix this specific issue and they said they fixed it. They just pushed it back and it dislogdged itself again. So I...

If you have 21” wheels that is likely a different problem causing the wear on the inner wheel edge at the back. My wheels for driving like you mentioned are at neg 2.25 Camber all round, toe in 0.05 all round. I don’t think your settings will be enjoyable as your suspension rubber bushings will...

This may be connected - on the wheel well side against the extreme back of the fender there is molded insulation that is supposed to fit exactly against the rear wall of the fender. Link below is for pre refresh cars but I included it to clarify what you’re to look for...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Will ya’ll please stop bickering and focus on what’s important here - your lives! Pushing for a Firestone type resolution may be the right thing to do, for everyone who doesn’t know this, but not at the cost of your own lives. So, either stop driving, or go get 20” or 19” rims and call it a day

Definitely not your imagination. The steering responsiveness with the lighter wheels (and lighter rotors for me too) is very very apparent.

True! I think a few % of people here got 20” rims aftermarket and possibly even fewer did over 10k on them. I’m in that very small group, and have 15k miles. No issue here. However, truth be told, I didn’t even wait for the issue to start before I replaced my oem wheels with some sweet and...

It’s his car and if he wants to run it at 0, who are we to argue :). He could probably go positive camber just in case there is a need to touch the steering wheel for turning around after the drag strip run! All I know is that with those oem rubber bushings on all those suspension links, all...
