Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

We have E/W (W is slightly south, E slightly north) with 10kWp and we have output of over 60kWh in the middle of summer. Peak output is about 7.5kW (with two 4.0kW inverters) whereas we'd have only a peak of around 4.0kW with the same type of setup south facing only.

[UK] used value of their Tesla cars plummeting?

WBAC offer on 2019 M3 LR, coming up to 36k miles. First time I’ve checked. £22,790. I’d have to be desperate.

    [UK] Price cuts

This talk of margins led me to look up Tesla’s gross margin. 25%. I guess that is generous in the car industry. Our gross margin is not far off 3x that. 😬

    [UK] Price cuts

Indeed M3LR is still more expensive (but maybe not after adjusting for inflation) than when I bought mine in 2019.

[UK] used value of their Tesla cars plummeting?

My trip to Scotland and back over new year cost 19p/mile in charging costs (excluding the home charging). At £1.50 per litre I reckon that's equivalent in cost to ~35mpg. (1.5/0.19*4.54). Phantom drain is a factor in the cost, having sentry mode turned on when the car was parked on the street in...

    Teslas are efficient though... 🤷‍♂️

    Nightmare! (Supercharger queues)

The idea of going low and charging fast and often only works if you can be confident of getting a charge when you need it.
  10. S

    Nightmare! (Supercharger queues)

I got a charge at Fastned in Hamilton. Wouldn’t accept octopus card, had to use contactless so didn’t get the discount.

    Nightmare! (Supercharger queues)

Currently charging at at Tebay. The car tried to divert to Gretna due to a wait here. But obviously it old everyone else as well and so soon Gretna had a wait. Net effect was to waste some energy preconditioning until I overrode it. When I arrived at Tebay there were 3 slots available.

    Nightmare! (Supercharger queues)

It was actually only just off my route as I was heading to portobello area - mainly needed to have enough to not be stuck in the morning. Not done this trip since 2019/2020 Christmas period and the chargers were just not that busy.
  13. S

    Nightmare! (Supercharger queues)

These had multiple cars waiting also. I think the road closures caused more people to want to top up there.
  14. S

    Evasive manoeuvre caused damage

I get corrective steering applied messages at 10mph in the work car park. I have never actually felt anything when it does this. I’m not convinced the feature works very well in normal driving. I’ve deliberately drifted over the centre line… nothing. Then returning to my side of the road after...

    Nightmare! (Supercharger queues)

The lack of thought re charger location at many services makes queuing impossible. I drove up to Edinburg on Friday and the flooding meant M74 and A702 closed. Abington was shown as no data. I tried to top up at Gretna but it was chaos. I wasn’t comfortable with a prediction of 11% arrival going...

    [UK] 2022.44

So first drive with 44.25.3 this morning. Apple Music is a big improvement, just so much easier to select and play music. Speed limits are back - but wrong. Joined M5 and it stuck at 40 all the way until I passed under a 60mph (advisory, not a VSL) sign at an overhead gantry, where that updated...

    [UK] 2022.44

I have had my Model 3 since November 2019 and I remember them being unusably bad - in particular, completely unable to react to tail lights that were relatively close, such that following an HGV on a rural road and they'd flash their brakes at me, and taking a looong time to respond to oncoming...

[uk impact] Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

The one time I've been rerouted for busy charger, we ignored it. We arrived at the supercharger site we were told had a long wait (Membury Services Westbound) to find more than 50% of chargers available. It would have wasted a huge amount of time and energy to do what the car said (go to the...

    No power = broken window!

When I give our Ukrainian guests a lift anywhere, one of them - the mum - is completely unable to remember to use the button rather than the manual release. I've given up reminding her, because it has no effect. (It's not a language thing, she has the best English of the three, and is the only...

  22. S

    [UK] 2022.40

Not preconditioning didn't change anything apart from the car being very cold. I did get it to display the auto defogging message after I'd cycled the manual defog control on and off. So I think it's been doing it in secret. So I switched to manual and turned the fan to three ways. Later on I...

    [UK] 2022.40

I’ve seen auto defog messages before but not this time so unsure. But it really doesn’t need to run to the exclusion of all other heating for 50 minutes anyway.
  24. S

    [UK] 2022.40

Update: popped out from work at lunchtime, the heat on screen only issue didn't occur. So, was it because it was warmer? It was 2 Deg C so I don't think that's likely... but the other difference was I didn't bother to preheat. So could preheating be making it stick on a defrost mode? Now I need...

    [UK] 2022.40

So, .40.8... - Energy app is a joke. This morning, it's telling me if I'd set the temperature to 22 deg C, I'd have saved 0.1% battery. Want to guess what the temperature was set to? And if I set it lower, I get the same message. Generally poor ergonomic design (unnecessarily small fonts, not...

    My speed limits have gone

Both of these things can be true. 1. Map update changes the data in some way that's not compatible with current FW. 2. FW update implements a change to be compatible with whatever they changed in the map. I can't say that this *is* what is happening, but it's plausible.

Has tesla de-activated radar on my model 3

Refusing to do even 30mph when visibility is good for 60mph is not “reasonable”

    My speed limits have gone

lol. speed limits gone this morning. so that's a yes?
  29. S

    My speed limits have gone

I have no idea, car was away for an insurance repair for 4 weeks and came back with a new FW version, and has had one update since, but I don't pay much attention to the map version.
  30. S

    My speed limits have gone

My car has speed limits but it keeps on resetting CC/AP set speed passing motorway exits. For instance 70=>55 or 50mph and associated unexpected braking. Seems to be a very recent change. Currently on 2022.40.8. Also a previous iteration did seem to adjust the limit (but not the speed) for...

    [UK] 2022.40

I have definitely found the AHB to be hugely improved. Why it's taken three years from when I bought the car to reach an acceptable (not perfect, but acceptable) performance is mystifying. It's still a bit too slow to go back to full beam. It also now sees tail lights much further away. Where...

The picture attached shows the rear camera view reversing up to out bay window. On the right there is a large plant pot. In front of the centre of the bay window is a rectangular planter which sticks out at least a foot. How many megapixels do you think will miraculously make them visible...

[uk impact] Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

Vision isn't functionally the same at all. This morning, it is foggy, and it would not even drive at 30mph in conditions suitable for 60mph. At 60mph, driving manually, I was the slowest vehicle on the M5 apart from HGVs. I also don't know who at Tesla signed off the algorithm, but at distance...

[uk impact] Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

My car is in being repaired. The car I've been given in the meantime has: - auto wipers. They just work. - auto high beam. Dips quickly, at distance for both oncoming and same direction traffic. Doesn't dip for its own lights illuminating street furniture. Seems to go back to high beam way...

    2022.20

Still stuck on this while others are on newer versions. Autopilot experience ruined since Vision Only due to the windscreen wipers coming on when there's a small amount of dirt on the screen (damp road and other vehicles throwing up small specks) and then the sun hits at the wrong angle. Pretty...

It says: Readings available We're receiving the half-hourly readings we need from your smart meter! Won't be long now, we're just getting everything ready for your new tariff. [uk impact] Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

Saw this thread this morning. It reminded me of the way Tesla are pushing Vision Only. Products with obvious, fatal flaws. The teams tried to make it work rather than do something different.

    Front number plate mounting

So I have managed to refit it using the screws and it seems ok. Obviously I haven't attempted to test it to destruction. :D Thanks to all for the input.
  46. S

    Front number plate mounting

The whole lot was ripped off and looked a bit bent but I’ve taken it apart now and might be able to refit the back plate as the screws were trapped inside rather than damaged. They’re self tapping so the question is are the holes now too damaged by ripping the plate off.
  47. S

    Front number plate mounting

Ah, too secure! The number plate holder is damaged/deformed so might need to be replaced as well. But good to know if it gets to that, it'll be solid. Cheers.
  48. S

    Front number plate mounting

Someone* drove into my car in the work car park yesterday. They ripped the front number plate off. While I wait for the damage to be assessed I need to reattach the plate. There are two mounting holes and the screws in the plate seem to be plastic. Anyone got any experience of what will work so...

[uk impact] Tesla Vision - Removal of UltraSonic Sensors

Reversing onto our drive at certain times of day in the summer, you can't see anything in the RHS camera due to low sun between ours and the neighbours. They will solve this how? I've also noticed the following distance being too close with Tesla Vision - and late to respond to getting close...
