    Mcu 2 upgrade

I upgraded to MCU 2 earlier this year. It’s was definitely a noticeable improvement. It will have several updates, but since we do not have all the same cameras we don’t get all the 2022 display features. The upgrade also includes replacing the dash instrument panel, so improved resolution on...

    MAIN BATTERY FAILURE

What about asking your local service center to find you a refurbished battery. A Tesla owner here in Boise who bricked his battery was also quoted $20K for a new battery. Eventually, they found him a refurbished battery for I think he said $6K or $7K. Not sure about the warranty or anything, but...

Grinding sound and vibration from front wheel area.

Not sure. The explanation I received was more involved and had to do with suspension itself.

Grinding sound and vibration from front wheel area.

I have a similar rattling/vibration coming from the front suspension, but I only hear it and feel it on hard acceleration. I asked the SC about it and they mentioned it has to do with some linkages that wear out over time. I have a 2015 S 85D. I will have to get it fixed soon. I wonder if Tesla...

Sell 2014 Model S before 8 Year warranty expires?

I appreciate your post. I have to ask about my 2015 S 85D and your thoughts on quality and keeping or consider selling. My battery warranty will be up in 2023. Kind of spooked on all this battery talk. And now my front suspension is rattling on high acceleration. A $1,500 Bill to get fixed...

MCU2 upgrade from MCU1 using mobile service?

I think it’s an auto default. I had the same result when I upgraded. My MCU 2 upgrade was completed at the SC. Be sure to ask for a loaner because it can take a few days. Depending on your current MCU it will either be $2,000 or $1,500. Mine was $1,500. After I confirmed the appointment, it was...

Got it. Thanks for the info. Really liking the MCU 2 upgrade though.

    What comes with MCU2 upgrade?

I recently upgraded to MCU 2 On my 2015 S 85D. Am I eligible for the camera upgrade? What determines your safety score? New to this information. So my apologies if i am asking redundant questions.

My First Tesla Roadside Experience - (spoiler - it wasn't great)

Danny, so sorry to hear about your frustrating experience. I purchased and carry a spare from ModernSpare.com. It actually came in handy as I also had a flat tire, but was able to get home. I did still have to change the tire and get to the tire shop to have my tire repaired. Just a suggestion...

    spare tire

I also purchased a Modern Spare Tire and carry it in my trunk. Used it once when I got a screw in my tire. Was able to change it and get to Les Schwab and get my tire fixed. Worth the cost and peace of mind.

    2-year ownership experience with a now 5-year-old 2016 Tesla Model S 75D

Great informative post. Thank you for sharing. Love the silver color. Do you have MCU 1 or 2? I am seriously considering the upgrade as the Tesla Ranger told me it would be like upgrading the car to a whole new level. How did you realize you could uncork your car? Cheers.

Tire Recommendation - Quietest all season?

Thanks for sharing. I should clarify. He meant the foam would reduce existing road noise by 9-10 db. Not sure if this helps.
  17. dfndr90

Tire Recommendation - Quietest all season?

I may have misheard him, but I thought he said 9-10 db with the foam inserts. Sounds like you know way more about the way this works than I do. Sorry for any confusion.

Tire Recommendation - Quietest all season?

I just had my S in the service center and the service tech mentioned they are now offering tires with foam inserts that reduce noise by about 9 to 10 decibels. He said it may not sound like much, but makes a big difference. Not sure if you knew about this. Just putting it out there.

Tire Recommendation - Quietest all season?

I put on a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 tires on my S 85D and absolutely love these tires. We recently went on a road trip and they handle amazingly well. Haven't had a chance to try them on snow, so will have to wait and see. The tires are quiet and provide a comfortable ride. We...

    Tesla ignoring older cars!

I must say I like your points on the updates. What other car manufacturer provides free OTA updates and also provides so many features for free via the Tesla App. I have to pay for those features on my wife's Santa Fe and they don't compare to Tesla's features. And for those of us with Models...

Glad you made it out of that situation safely. I think most would have gotten slammed into the barrier. I am sure Elon would be interested in seeing that video.

    Problem servicing older vehicles?

I think with the cost of batteries dropping and technology continuing to advance, we may have the option to swap our existing battery for a new more advanced battery for a few thousand dollars. Or as you stated, third party servicers may offer the same. I tend to keep my cars for the long haul...

    Problem servicing older vehicles?

Thanks for the post. It's nice to hear from other 2015 MS 85D owners. I agree with you. Aside from the increase in charging times, I need to learn to enjoy this amazing car. I also charge at home and keep in the 80% range you do. I plug in at night and it's ready in the morning. It will be...

    Problem servicing older vehicles?

I agree with you. From your perspective, you are correct. There are definitely fewer parts that require maintenance and fewer moving parts that will wear out over time. What we have in our Tesla's is a lot of technology in that we have an MCU which pretty much runs everything. Maybe I've been...

    Problem servicing older vehicles?

That is what I was afraid of. I will stick with the OEM battery when the time comes. Is there a shelf life for an unused new battery.

    Problem servicing older vehicles?

Have you or anyone looked into the lithium-ion batteries from https://www.ohmmu.com/product-page/12v-lithium-battery-for-tesla-model-s. I am a bit skeptical, as it appears there are some reset issues you may run into with the computer. But curious.

Rocky, Sounds like you’ve had quite the adventure with your Model S with only minor issues. Thank you for your post. I hope I also have as few and minor issues with mine. I did opt for the extended warranty through ICCU, so hopefully I’m covered for most issues which might come my way. That...

    Obtaining service is Boise

Hi J. Thank you for the information. I am a new owner of a 2015 Model S 85D. Where can I find the details for the Boise Mobile Service Techs? I am sure I will need them at some point. I worry when my 12V battery will start giving me issues. Thanks again. Cheers.

    Problem servicing older vehicles?

I have to admit it's very tempting at times, and I did test it a bit when I first got it. But, I hear you, things will eventually happen it sounds like. The difficulty is everything on the car is super expensive to fix. As I stated in other threads, it will be interesting to see if Tesla helps...

    Problem servicing older vehicles?

Roger that. My last road trip stop in Baker City Oregon was about an hour to get enough juice to get home to Boise. It was also 18 F, so this may have played a part in the slower charging. I guess at this point we are all waiting to see what Tesla will do before our warranties are up in 2023...

    Problem servicing older vehicles?

I very much enjoyed your post. I’ve learned some things based on your experience. I am sorry you’ve had quite so many issues with your Model S. I recently purchased a 2015 Model S 85 D with 33,000 miles. I am a little freaked out about what may be in my future as far as issues. I do hope not...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Thank you bmah. You are correct in stating my 85D charges slower at SC's. I do not mind. When I picked up the car, I drove from Grandview Washington to Boise Idaho which is about 411 miles. I had two stops. One in Pendleton, OR for about 15 minutes and the second stop in Baker City, OR for about...

It sounds like you can only keep from doing the updates for only so long before you are forced to. I really hope updates do not cause issues. It does run amazingly well, and I am not a hard driver. I like to take care of my vehicles, especially one like this. Thank you for the advice.

I purchased it from a close friend who has ordered a 2020 Model S. It was close to 250 on a full charge. I appreciate your comments. Like I said, I do not mind the extra time for charging since I charge from home overnight. I also read the throttling or nerfing was to protect/preserve the...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I just recently purchased a 2015 Model S 85D with 32,000 miles on it. The car is beautiful and runs superbly. Super Charging does take about 30% longer, but I charge at home, so no real issues. You guys are kind of freaking me out as to possible battery issues in my future. Should I be...
