2013 S85 Battery Replacement (Out of warranty) - my experience

Also, the charge rate (MPH) of 120KW is higher. Its 402 Miles an hour! For the new batteries, Old Batteries: 120KW = 400 Volts, 300 Amps New Battery (the 'Unicorn'): 120KW = 350 Volts, 342.8 Amps into more batteries, hence the faster charge speed :) I suspect that our older Model S's with the...

Tips and Best Practices for buying from Dealers or Manheim Auctions?

Another couple of things about auctions... If Tesla took possession then sent it to auction, then it likely also has Lifetime supercharging removed (if appplicable). Also, many of the cars at auction could have been listed as salvage or written off as a total loss. If that's the case, good luck...

    New 85kWH battery for my 2013 P85+

I would wait until I get it back if I were you. Then you can see if it has more capacity and restored speed. Not all refurbs are bad. Please let us know after you get the car back.

Thats about what I am getting as well. VERY happy.

    HV Battery service

Each time mine was at/over 120KW it was at a V3 charger. V2 maxes out around 110KW, at least at the Eureka SC.

Service centers no longer issuing Uber credits, loaners only if service expected to take longer than 48 hours

Sounds like a local Service Center or regioanl policy. Had mine in for service yesterday and got uber credits automatically in the app and a loaner model x.

    New 85kWH battery for my 2013 P85+

When they replaced my battery with the C, they said that when they entered my VIN, it said they needed to be upgraded before they even got my car. I guess its something to do with build date and options? Not all VINs need them (as we have seen here).

    New 85kWH battery for my 2013 P85+

The 17kw at the top doing the last 1-2 miles is what the new uncorked C pack does... Older batteries also slowed way down at 99%. The capped ones do not slow down that much at 99%.
  11. L

    New 85kWH battery for my 2013 P85+

Definately un-corked. Right where the math says you should be. Enjoy your P90D :)

How to plan a road trip - how long will it take?

I have made 2 trips around most of the USA in my 2013 S85 with no issues charging (Used only superchargers, except in Casper, WY which didn't have any yet)... Both were 3 and 4 years ago: Trinidad, CA to Kennewick Washington (101-199-5-84-82), took hwy 90 to detroit (with a stop in Casper WY)...

2012 P85 HV battery replacement options -- need perspective.

Remanufactured.. BUT... it MAY still be one of the 1014116-00-c ones once it arrives and the invoice changes. Dunno. Seems to be a crap shoot.

No energy app for vertical screen

I can confirm that we got no love on this one (2022.36.2). 2013 Model S V2 infotainment. Same old app. Hopefully its by mistake. We would like to have the new energy screen too :)

According to my math, you will see 296-297 miles at 100%, 266-267 at 90% :) Happy you got it sorted. By the way, enjoy the faster than new supercharger speed :) Edit: Another thing I noticed on mine: My wh/mi went down. For the last 17527 miles before the new battery it was 328 wh/mi The 2825...

I would do both. Even if they are not keeping the car, a working Tesla is worth more than a broken one. Could even keep it as a spare.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Is that $600.00 installed (parts and labor)? If so, that is about what they charge for dino-guzzlers to get one replaced at the shops. Personally, I think $600.00 to keep the car going is pretty reasonable and I would do it, but that's completely up to you.

2012 P85 HV battery replacement options -- need perspective.

That issue is a rare occurrence. I had over 200,000 miles on my 2013 S85, which had a max range of 200 miles at 100% after the 'Batterygate and chargegate updates'. Since my range never got restored after the update to restore it came out, Tesla replaced the battery and made me whole and happy...

2012 P85 HV battery replacement options -- need perspective.

Wonder if the label change was done so it does not display the kw size on the label so people don't get upset that they were capped when its installed on a car less that a real 90? Kind of makes sense. People see 90 and want 90 when they actually have an 85 car.
  20. L

If you mean the SX, it means the battery is for the model S and X cars :)
  21. L

2012 P85 HV battery replacement options -- need perspective.

Technically (as some have said, including my Service Advisor), 1014116-00-c is a 100kw pack with 2 modules removed, making it a 90 pack. If you requested and paid for a 90 kw pack and they agreed, I would discuss it with them. Worst they can say is no.

2012 P85 HV battery replacement options -- need perspective.

The battery is new, and the ~270 miles at 100% with no regen loss is on par with what others are getting that are software locked to the S85 level. Yes, the charge rate is noticeably faster on this battery. On a rwd 85, if not software capped with this new battery, you should see ~297 miles of...

    Model S Battery

It also depends on if you are in the US or EU They use different range estimates. US uses EPA. The numbers differ. All I see is Rated Range (EPA) and Ideal. Rated is a calculation based on the EPA average for the KW left (in US), Ideal is the fantasy-land estimate (55 MPH on flat-land, no wind...

    Model S Battery

At full charge, what does it say your rated range is? Brand new US EPA rated range for a 2015 S70D is 240 miles (realistically, about 229 miles with perfect [slow] driving style and weather).

Do you have an image of the invoice with your personal information and VIN covered up? The additional parts list would help figure out if the right battery was installed, or there was some kind of mix up at the Service Center or shipping. I am guessing a mistake was made in shipping.

If you goto settings, Display, Energy Display, and set it to "Ideal", it will likely show what you were reporting before. FWIW, Ideal should never be used. It has no real world bearing on the battery state, or how many miles you will get. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/246334/

Rated is the default setting when certain settings are cleared, which is done when they change the infotainment center. Some user settings are retained, others are reset.

How is your charge speed now? So did they firmware limit the battery to 270, or is that what the pack comes out to?
  35. L

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

And in some cases like mine, reduced from 256 miles to 200 with no restoration. But thankfully, they are now going to replace the battery :)
  36. L

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

It may be because its a revision C battery... I think Revision A said 85kw, suspect revision B may have been the one with 2 modules removed. Don't know what a revision C really is, since as far as I know there have been no tear-downs on this revision since its such a 'unicorn'.

I think I will go now and take a pic of my sticker that shows the vehicles gross weight... Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

Agreed, If only 2 modules are bad, then they COULD remove 2 of them, but capacity would be reduced. Couldn't take 2 modules from a 85kw and use it to replace on a 85, but probably could use it on a 70 or lower. I suppose they could do it from a 90 donor battery, dunno to be honest. But if more...
  40. L

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

I cannot confirm the price, since mine is being replaced for 0 cost, due to it not being able to be restored by the firmware updates designed to remediate the batterygate update (I got a letter from Tesla).

  43. L

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

There has been much speculation about what the remanufacture process entails... If its just replacing the BMS or other boards, it would be cost effective to replace them and label it as a reman. As for the theory that Tesla is going to tear down a pack, test each module and pull out 2 bad ones...
  44. L

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

No. They are new. If they are remanufactured in ANY way, they must be disclosed as REMAN. Reman parts show up on the invoices and parts catalog (either in the description or part number) as REMAN (as per legal disclosure requirements).
  45. L

Service says $22k for new battery on 2012 Model S

Actually, the 1014116-00-C are 100% new and DO show up in the catalog. They show up under 2016+ parts as: I am scheduled to receive this battery on July 5th for my 2013 S85. The SC has the battery and is waiting for new rear suspension arms to handle the extra weight for stability.
  46. L

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Looks like the date got pushed back to July 5th. They are still waiting for Rear Suspension arms. Even though I have air suspension, the new battery is heavier, needing the stronger suspension parts for stability. They said they are still covered at no charge by Tesla :)

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Since this battery shows for 2016-2021 cars and is capable of V3 charging levels (assumed), I wonder what the 'Retrofit kit" entails? New charge port and wiring?
  49. L

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

The SC contacted me in the app... They said the battery came in but the retrofit kit will not be in until Jun 13, the new appointment time. Since I know that a refurb would not need the kit, I asked what part number arrived. They said 1014116-00-C. :)
