Am I not understanding the app?

This is still not addressed by Edison. I've called them a number of times and keep getting told someone will contact me. I don't know how many times I've had to explain my app shows the power sent to Edison and not just the power generated. They have pushed out my bill when it is due, but still...

    SCE Billing

I'm amazed this has been going on for so long. I work in tech and I would have been fired if it took months to resolve an issue like this.
  3. SoCal Dave

    SCE Billing

    Nope.
  4. SoCal Dave

    SCE Billing

My bills align to what the app says all the way until Feb of this year. Then they start to be very different. So I think my meter died in February and they have been using estimates since. I called SCE on Saturday about my bill dispute and I was told to call again next week if I hadn't heard...

Tesla only taking orders of PWs with Solar

Wow, glad I got my system last year w/o having to pay for 2 power walls.
  6. SoCal Dave

    SCE Billing

SCE replaced the meter, but there has been nothing yet about the "bill dispute". I was told it can take 45 days to resolve. I was going to follow-up to see where it is at.
  7. SoCal Dave

Am I not understanding the app?

Will do. I have no idea how long they would have let it go on. I would assume they would have some type of report showing meters not providing data and would work them when they exceed a certain threshold.
  8. SoCal Dave

Am I not understanding the app?

SCE said they are going to open up a bill dispute which can take up to 45 days. I assume they will go by what the Tesla app shows as there is no other source for what happened.
  9. SoCal Dave

Am I not understanding the app?

It looks like the meter died in February and SCE has been using estimated values since then.
  10. SoCal Dave

Am I not understanding the app?

You win! I was going in circles with the SCE guy for a while and I finally went out to my panel to take an amperage reading. I noticed the meter's digital display is completely dead. SCE just confirmed they have been using power estimates. Odd that it doesn't indicate on the bill that it is...
  11. SoCal Dave

Am I not understanding the app?

Spent 2 hours trying to talk to someone who could help at SCE, but no success. Will try again tomorrow.
  12. SoCal Dave

Am I not understanding the app?

Ah, wish there was an indication to scroll for more info :) Ok, so if I'm understanding this correctly, the app is showing I sold a net of 851 kWh (1209-358) while SCE is saying I bought a net of 344 kWh. That is a 1,195 kWh difference, ugh....
  13. SoCal Dave

Am I not understanding the app?

This month I was expecting a large credit from SCE as my solar production has been more than double the home usage reported by the Tesla app. I was surprised to see that SCE is showing I consumed more power than I sold back to the grid. I thought since each grey line was larger in the...

    Can water beads sunburn panels?

You can start a fire with water in a plastic bag shaped into a sphere. However, the volume is quiet large and the sphere is moved a few inches away to get the correct focal length. A drop of water sitting on a panel is very small, likely the ambient temperature is going to be cooler, the sun...
  15. SoCal Dave

    It's raining...

Glad the rain is here. My panels needed a rinse :)
  16. SoCal Dave

    are these blips real?

    That is really strange.
  17. SoCal Dave

What's the max generation you've seen for a 16.2kWh system at any given time?

Interesting. I do have allergies, but we are pretty good about putting fans in the windows at night. Does it seem to pull in more dust than using fans in windows?
  18. SoCal Dave

    are these blips real?

Your house usage doesn't match these blips?
  19. SoCal Dave

What's the max generation you've seen for a 16.2kWh system at any given time?

I don't have a whole house fan. It is on my todo list now that it is cooling down as I didn't want to climb into the attic in 100+ degree weather ;)
  20. SoCal Dave

What's the max generation you've seen for a 16.2kWh system at any given time?

It is part of a 3 pond system with streams between them. There is a lot of suspended water where if the pump is shut off the bottom pond overflows. It is also good for the water quality and the fish to have the constant flow. I do have a second pump which drives waterfalls. I've been thinking...
  21. SoCal Dave

What's the max generation you've seen for a 16.2kWh system at any given time?

Surprisingly, I've moved away from constantly checking my solar production multiple times a day to checking maybe once a week. In total it has generated 3.5mWh since it was turned on in August. I seem a long way from the yearly 18.7 mWh forecasted by Tesla. Hopefully the spring and summer will...

Pictures of Solar on Flat Roof Home

My flat roof is on top of a 2 story addition and the panels are pretty far from edges so I can't see them from the ground. I'd expect you will be able to see them on your house as it will be lower and they will need to be installed closer to the edges due to space constraints. They are probably...
  23. SoCal Dave

What's the max generation you've seen for a 16.2kWh system at any given time?

It is sad to see the continued reduction in solar production. Can't wait for after the new year when it will go in the opposite direction.
  24. SoCal Dave

    Steps after Installation

I just tried calling Tesla and requesting a Solar Edge Account and she said she can't do that. Will try again in a few days.

My 11.2kW Tesla Solar Project - Portland, OR

Potentially. Some meters will count any electricity flowing through regardless of direction. Also, the utility company could fine you. However, the only report I've seen has been a third-hand report of a $5,000 fine. I haven't found anything to actually confirm if utilities still are fining...

My 11.2kW Tesla Solar Project - Portland, OR

PVC Schedule 80 is allowed where it can be subject to physical damage, so that is fine. Just usually looks crappy if ran distances especially horizontal.
  27. SoCal Dave

My 11.2kW Tesla Solar Project - Portland, OR

Interesting. The code doesn't actually define what subject to physical damage is. But if at 4' in a garage isn't "subject to physical damage" I don't know what is. Know if your inspectors allow running Romex along your wall in the garage?
  28. SoCal Dave

My 11.2kW Tesla Solar Project - Portland, OR

I'm surprised they ran exposed flex for your inverter. I would never run flex out in the open like that. Flex isn't allowed where it is "subject to physical damage." It will be interesting to hear what your electrical inspector says. Around here that wouldn't pass.
  29. SoCal Dave

What's the max generation you've seen for a 16.2kWh system at any given time?

My production has gone down a bit the past couple days. I assume it is mostly due to the heat wave we have been experiencing in Temecula.

    Powerwall Install costs?

I gave you a like to add balance to the force ;)
  31. SoCal Dave

    Panel upgrade

If you want to totally future proof your house, install a 400A panel and replace the main breaker with a 200A. So you will have a bus rated for 400A but it won't necessarily force the craziness associated with going to 400A main.
  32. SoCal Dave

Utility Transformer Upgrade - Burden of Cost?

Is it cost effective to pay for the transformer replacement instead of going with a smaller system? Maybe add more down the road when your neighbors pay for the transformer upgrade because they got solar ;)
  33. SoCal Dave

"I Want Tesla to take the lead"

I wouldn't check it if it means you don't get to approve the layout prior to install.

    GW2 Site and Conductor Limits

Yah, I'm thinking something like this might be appropriate:
  36. SoCal Dave

    GW2 Site and Conductor Limits

Do you also put a similar sticker in the main panel with the feed breaker? Something so if someone looks at it they will know what the maximum power feeding into that panel?

    PG&E PSPS this weekend (2020-09-26)

I didn't get Powerwalls. Why did stormwatch get triggered?
  38. SoCal Dave

    Panel upgrade

EV charging is new, but most homes don't have an EV vehicle. A new AC is 20-40% more efficient than one from 20+ years ago.Add the better insulation and air sealing practices and the AC becomes even more efficient. Variable speed pool pumps can use 1/10th the power. Energy Star appliances are...
  39. SoCal Dave

    Panel upgrade

With the energy improvements in lighting, appliances and equipment, there are probably a number of people who are unnecessarily upgrading their panels. Shame that the alternative of measuring the load isn't easier for a home owner to do. And Tesla probably wouldn't accept it anyways and would go...
  40. SoCal Dave

    Panel upgrade

They are probably looking at downgrading your main to a 150A and then limited to a 90A for the powerwalls as that would be 240A or 120% of a 200A panel. If that is the reason, they probably could derate your main to a 125A and then they could use a 100A breaker for your powerwalls. However, you...
  41. SoCal Dave

    Panel upgrade

Don't worry about age of a panel as part of your decision unless it is a panel with a known history of problems (some Zinsco panels for example). Panels and breakers are designed to be extremely reliable and rarely cause problems. I have the same panel as you and it is 36 years old. I expect it...
  42. SoCal Dave

    Panel upgrade

It wouldn't even be an upgrade, it would just be a service change. A Square D panel is fine for solar. It is what my house has and thousands of houses across the country. Will be interesting to hear what they think the issue is.
  43. SoCal Dave

    Panel upgrade

So they aren't forcing a meter upgrade, but a meter relocation? I've never heard of a utility forcing a meter relocation unless you are upgrading the panel.
  44. SoCal Dave

    Panel upgrade

I still think $4,200 for an in place 200A upgrade seems too high, but $2,000 for a 200A upgrade is pretty cheap. Is the electrician licensed?
  45. SoCal Dave

    330w panels?

If they did install 330 instead of 340 and didn't add panels to compensate, that would be almost a 3% loss and should reduce your bill from Tesla by $482.35. $16,400 * (1-330/340)
  46. SoCal Dave

    330w panels?

Did they do 25 panels then?
  47. SoCal Dave

    330w panels?

They will install extra panels to make up the difference. It is pretty minor though. For example, my 340W 12.24kW system with 36 panels would need to be a 37 panel system with 330W panels.
  48. SoCal Dave

My 11.2kW Tesla Solar Project - Portland, OR

Layout looks nice. Good luck tomorrow!
  49. SoCal Dave

What's the max generation you've seen for a 16.2kWh system at any given time?

It depends on the inverter. For my 10kW SolarEdge, it gets basically the same efficiency once it goes above 2.5kW. https://www.solaredge.com/sites/default/files/application_note_solaredge_inverters_efficiency.pdf While others, like the 6kW SolarEdge looks to be most efficient at about 2.0kW...
