Cables you reference in the front bumper are not for "jumping" anything. They are not connected to the 12v battery. They are for powering the solenoids that latch the frunk, for popping the frunk, now, when the 12 battery is dead.

The emergency release just releases the soft close motor from holding the lid closed should that be the case when needing to pop the lid with the contacts near the tow bar connection in the front bumper (I do believe Hansshow kits still pull the lid closed, then release the lid, not using power...

An experienced installer can access the soft close motor that is usually what holds the frunk down when that is an issue (rarely) via the wheel well. Probably the method Tesla used, but $600 is an insane price for them to fix this from my experience.

Maybe seeing this too late, but I am an installer of a number of Tesla aftermarket kits, including frunk kits on pre 2020 Tesla's, in the Washington D.C tri-state area.

What can you confirm? I have heard many things from Tesla Mobile Service. Much of it true, some of completely false (in many cases countered by the cars manual!!). The only official word on a retrofit comes from Elon Musk,or on Tesla.com .

Thanks for the reply, but agree with the other poster above. "official" has to come from Tesla HQ, not a private reply to a single owner. Someone else posted on prior pages of this thread that Elon was "looking into it" (as it isn't definite, this is also not promising).

Sorry, while I see a single SC responding to an owner that it is possible, haven't seen Elon say so which would (I trust) overrule SC say so. Also don't see where $300 is mentioned...

@TomT - Any chance you can pull the threads you found this info on and supply to me via this thread/PM. I would be interested in giving this a try, know where the MCU is, but need to know which unused pins are eluded to above.
