Discussion : All discussion regarding Model 3 and Tax credit in model 3 subforum

No I did not. That's Tesla and IRS problem, taxpayer responsibility is to correctly claim the credit on their tax return.

Discussion : All discussion regarding Model 3 and Tax credit in model 3 subforum

The nonrefundable purchase agreement was spelled out as a way to claim old tax credit when new IRA was signed and became law. The March IRA new rules taking effect and possibly changing the Tesla credit is a different change, it's issuance of Treasury guidelines, not a newly signed law, and will...

Discussion : All discussion regarding Model 3 and Tax credit in model 3 subforum

The Ioniq 5 and many other EVs (Rivian over 80k, ID4, etc) got the credit under the old law. The old law was replaced when the IRA took effect, unless you had a nonrefundable order. Tesla no longer did qualify as they exceeded the 200k vehicle limit on the old law. Having a nonrefundable (even...

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

Delivery. Date of Payment (deposit)and VIN (information) don't matter. However we don't know what the date is, I'd expect in March the date is pushed back or if it is made effective it won't be for a number of months later. Doesn't hurt to take delivery now though. Your more guaranteed the tax...

Discussion : All discussion regarding Model 3 and Tax credit in model 3 subforum

Yeah you could probably do that in order to get delivery done. The issue is if you dont get the title in your name and you drop partner from your insurance later I'm not sure your insurance will let you have a vehicle on your policy that is titled to someone else. Thats why I'd probably title it...

It doesn't include destination charge or order fee either for the $55k limit.

Discussion : All discussion regarding Model 3 and Tax credit in model 3 subforum

You could have partner buy it solely in their name. Can later title it in both your names then add to your insurance. The few weeks from delivery until titled could be tricky, here in Texas I think owner needs to add to their insurance prior to delivery. Maybe easier to just list both of you as...

    Higher Milage used Tesla caveats?

I'd expect suspension begins wearing out, so yes may want to replace struts, etc at some point. See how it behaves on rough roads and variety of turns. Battery degradation or abuse would be my main concern, probably unlikely an issue, but if so potentially very costly. Really hard to know the...

SR/SR+ (Model 3 RWD) Waiting Room

And I will say, I totally agree with you. Tesla ruined my desire to drive ICE vehicles, including our nice BMW SUV. After experiencing a MY I had to trade in the BMW for my profile picture. The charging network also has me uninterested in other brands at this time, eventually I suspect that will...

Model 3 LR not currently available to order (USA) [posted 08.12.2022]

I suspect project Highland is about saving Tesla money, maybe eventually it will lower the price, but its not about making the M3 better.

SR/SR+ (Model 3 RWD) Waiting Room

I'd imagine you should be able to push the wait out at least a few weeks even if you get assigned a VIN soon.

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

I would think discount tire would be happy to sell you the warranty; usually warranties are where businesses make huge profits. Some of them have large markups, but even if not a lot of people never bother to claim even if they could. Personally reminds me of having to deal with an insurance...

    215/50R18 Tire?

For snow tires I'm really liking the idea of CrossClimate2.... yes they are an all season, but they are the only all season to have the 3 peak snow tire logo and review better than any other all season in snow. Being in Texas, there's ski trips to Colorado where I can hit a ton of snow but on...

    215/50R18 Tire?

Good insight, thanks. Yes the whole reason to get 215/50R18 would be for efficiency; so I'd want to run ~45PSI. So appears stock 18 size is likely best; or perhaps 225/50R18 if I happen to get a wheel that is 8".... but I'm not seeing many 8" options I like.
  15. MacO512

Discussion : All discussion regarding Model 3 and Tax credit in model 3 subforum

Agreed. I'm a great negotiatior, but I don't want to deal with wasting my time in a dealership. Even if I could save a thousand dollars. Crazy to think of but can't pay me a thousand or more dollars to spend a few hours at their business. How shitty is their business model. I'll be glad to see...

    215/50R18 Tire?

So I was looking at the Crossclimate 2 in stock 18 size; then I it is available on backorder in 215/50R18 92V SL BSW. Would have to buy an 8" wide rim though. 92 load tire is 1389lb x 4 = 5,556 Model 3 Performance curb weight is about 4000 lbs so thats ~1500 lbs for passengers and cargo. Can't...

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

I'd drive the car home with summer tires below freezing if the roads are dry. Leave tons of distance. Allow plenty of time. Test emergency stopping on an open area. But if your super nervous about it just bring a good jack and swap those tires. Jack from front spot will raise entire side of the...

    215/50R18 Tire?

The Tesla Aero wheels don't fit on a model 3 performance so that's not an option for me. That article is good, shows about a 2.5% improvement with covers on. I can live without that benefit. However I'm not sure of efficiency difference from stock Tesla 18" wheel naked vs aftermarket 18" that fit.
  19. MacO512

    215/50R18 Tire?

Yeah, the FastEV EV01 is the only aero wheel I see that fits M3 Performance calipers. FastEV EV01(+) Wheels for Tesla Model 3 18 If stock wheels fit I'd probably just buy a set of those, they don't fit M3 Performance. I'm not sure how much 3rd party covers or the EV01 helps. I've seen some...

    215/50R18 Tire?

Researching this more there just aren't many tires made in this 215/50R18 size with XL load, so I don't believe this will be an option. 225/50R18 has quite a few sizes; but they require an 8" wide rim and will not fit 8.5" wide rims. Most model 3 18" rims are 8.5" or larger. I'm not sure if the...

Totally agree with all of this analysis, I'm a CPA. Took delivery of a M3P today and have no concerns of it qualifying for the tax credit.

    215/50R18 Tire?

    My understanding is 18" are much more efficient than 19" even with identical widths/tire compound/etc as explained in this video;

  24. MacO512

    215/50R18 Tire?

Yes a M3 on 215 would likely need more feet to stop. Would it stop much quicker than an F250? I sure would think so, and plenty of people drive those big trucks around. Yes a M3 driver would have to leave a lot more distance with 215 efficient tires than a M3P on sticky performance tires. If...
  25. MacO512

    215/50R18 Tire?

Yeah I'm not sure I would actually go through with 215, just trying to research it and as you say consider it. Yes winter tires might be an ideal case, as narrower helps anyways for those to cut through snow, and winter range is EV's worst season. The improved range wouldn't be significant if...

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

Good question. I put my VIN in this website and it looks like the 8th digit specifies M3P https://teslatap.com/vin-decoder/ 1-3 Manufacturer 5YJ = Tesla, Inc. 4 Make 3 = Model 3 5 Body Type E = Sedan 4 Door (Model 3, Left-Hand Drive) 6 Restraint System 1 = Manual Type 2 Seat Belts...

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

No, Tesla didn't ask for SSN or anything at delivery, nor the last few days. I don't believe I have ever given Tesla my SSN, I financed through my credit union. I would assume the IRS will record all the VINs submitted on tax returns and possibly audit some if there is a reason it looks...

I would love to see a model 3 with a 30 inch wheel.

    215/50R18 Tire?

Its a decent argument you make, and something I should consider. However I believe if the tire load rating still met the vehicle weight requirements I'd be fine. If there is a legit safety risk I wouldn't want to drive it. However there are plenty of vehicles on 215 tires; and I would suspect...

Thanks! Yes we already have a white Y so had to get a different color. Only color options were Grey or Blue with no other options to stay under tax credit limit. Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

Drove 3 hours at 5am today to trade in our BMW SUV for a second Tesla. So happy with this performance model! I have acceleration boost on our Y long range so thought this would be just a tiny bit faster. Its not, its wayyyy faster. Pulls crazy hard off the line and up to 80mph. The low end is...

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

I sold our second ICE vehicle, a BMW SUV, because I much prefer being in a Tesla, even for road trips. Autopilot and lack of clutter is way more useful than avoiding superchargers, which I honestly don't mind at all. Maybe you and others prefer to use an ICE vehicle on road trips, thats fine...

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

So you use your EV for going around town. Certainly are people like this. Many others aren't. I drove 3 hours to Houston and 3 hours back on the weekend and will do it again in the morning. Back in the holidays I drove 1200 miles in 20 hours with two small kids. Would like to see that done...

    215/50R18 Tire?

215 is width not diameter, its narrower tire but similar diameter to stock. People report range decrease going up from 235 to 255 so I'd think the reverse that there should be a range increase going from stock 235 down to 215. I have never heard of the Tesla Aero cover attaching to any wheel...
  36. MacO512

    215/50R18 Tire?

Has anybody tried a 215/50R18 tire size for additional range? I recall hearing an out of spec youtube trip in a M3P where they said 225 18's with cargo roof box was same efficiency as 20's without. If 225 was that huge improvement; you'd think 215 would be even better. I'm interested in having...

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

Yeah these other brand EV's are basically unusable outside small city trips or very detailed expertly planned longer trips. Hop in a Tesla, navigate to where you want to go and it does everything for you. OutofSpec had reports of the Electrify America technician - they have one tech for all...

SR/SR+ (Model 3 RWD) Waiting Room

I'd be shocked if anyone has those in the next few months. There are reports Tesla will make these changes but that takes awhile to get into delivered cars I believe. We'll see threads here once these are delivered as there was with Ryzen/lithium 12v/etc. I wanted to make sure my Model Y had a...

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

Congrats. I loved having a Tesla way more than expected and charging is great. Right now the non Tesla EV charging is so terrible I would go ICE if not Tesla. Doesn't matter how great a competitors EV is if charging sucks. Maybe in a few years that's better and I'd consider another brand.

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

Schedule for delivery tomorrow at 1pm. They offered to move delivery to 6pm today but that's not enough time for me to make it home from 3 hour drive. Glad I selected an inventory car order the night of the price cut, but 6 hours driving round trip for pickup isn't easy. Can't wait to get it...

Can I still cancel order even after having a delivery date schedule?

Text Tesla to release the vin and put the order on hold. You may be able to use the 250 deposit to a different vehicle. If text doesn't work call them.
  42. MacO512

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

Care to explain why you might cancel? My opinion is Tesla has about 10 major issues that lead me to wish for a better alternative. Problem is the competition is worse; Tesla is still vastly superior by probably 5-10 years.

Discussion : All discussion regarding Model 3 and Tax credit in model 3 subforum

File taxes and claim the credit. I don't believe the IRS will challenge it. Their website doesn't say it's a definitive list or that vehicle must be on their list for the credit.

    Model 3 Performance Waiting Room

MYLR qualifies. I got AB, it's very fast. I needed 3rd row seat for kids or I may have got P. But LR also has more comfortable suspension and wheels so I'm happy. I don't think the people working at a Tesla store will have any insight on tax credits. They'll just tell you what's on tesla.com

Can a family member take delivery for me (power of attorney)

I guess the one change I'd make to my comment 5 posts above; is if a parent or someone you trust would qualify for more of the tax credit than yourself. In that case I'd have them buy the vehicle and sell it to you later, and let them keep some of the profit.
  47. MacO512

Can a family member take delivery for me (power of attorney)

I don't believe this will work. I think you'll need to give your parents your login/password for your tesla app so they can have it on a phone at delivery. It uses bluetooth to unlock the vehicle I believe. I have Tesla app on a phone and tablet, so I think it should be fine for you to have it...

Can a family member take delivery for me (power of attorney)

I didn't have to talk to anyone or sign anything at the Tesla site to take delivery. I just walked up to the car, it had my name listed inside the dash, I clicked accept delivery on the app, the car unlocked, and I could've drove off. I went inside the Tesla center and asked about a mark on the...
