Which Snow-Chain are you using with your Model S?

Same here. I think this is because they just close the road if it gets to R3 conditions. I'm sure it's happened, but I've personally never driven a major road that is caltrans controlled in R3 (or if I did, I didn't realize it). They almost always close it when it gets to R3. I've driven in...

Which Snow-Chain are you using with your Model S?

I've spent most of my life in CA, going to Tahoe from the bay area almost every year, and driving myself there since the 1990's. I've never once been stopped for an inspection to see if I'm carrying chains in my 4WD vehicle with good (m+s all season usually) tires. They just wave me on by...

Which Snow-Chain are you using with your Model S?

snip... Like I said, everyone's situation is different. Yours is unique. I was responding to someone who said they make trips to Tahoe from the SF Bay Area, which to me, means 80 or 50 99% of the time.

Which Snow-Chain are you using with your Model S?

I have lived in Buffalo NY (four years in my 30's), and CA bay area (currently and most of my life). If you own a second set of wheels for the snow tires, then it's much easier and cheaper to put them on/off yourself, assuming you have a good jack and flat driveway to do the work. If all you...

    EV-specific tires

Engineering Explained has a good segment on what goes into a tire designed specifically for EVs. It kinda feels like one long Hankook advert, but has some great technical content nonetheless. I'm going to be looking for new tires for my model S this summer. I'm on my 2nd set of Bridgestone...

MCU1 owners: what should we expect from our cars?

Do you get the same inconsistent performance when you save dashcam footage? I'm not sure of the frame rate I'm getting, but I get pretty decent (not great) video from the dashcam feature. IIRC, the couple times I needed Sentry footage, it was similar / same as dashcam.

MCU1 owners: what should we expect from our cars?

Since when is MCU1 too slow for Sentry to function "properly"? What does Sentry not do with MCU1 that it should do? It seems to work on my MCU1, and I'm not fan of the MCU1, so not defending it. I just never heard this complaint before.

How to sue Tesla over historical claims

As I said, by fall of 2020 when the price was dropped to $69420, the pandemic and supply chain issues were already in full swing. Other manufacturers raised prices too, just not as much as Tesla. I get the "supply and demand" argument; duh. But Tesla has gone above and beyond here, IMO, to...

How to sue Tesla over historical claims

Are other brands raising prices by 50% in 2 years time? The Model S LR+ price was (infamously) dropped to $69,420 (combining Elon's two fav numbers, to beat Lucid's then claimed base price of ~$72k) in the fall of 2020, right at the peak of the pandemic and supply chain issues. 2 years later...

How to sue Tesla over historical claims

Uhhhh... "work" is a relative term. I have a late 2017 S75 with HW2.5 MCU1, and EAP. Autopark is batting about 250 for me, Summon was a joke at best and now is pretty much inoperable. NoA works pretty well, but disengages on MANY interchanges and I live in Tesla's backyard (SF South Bay Area...

Rear seat heaters? I didn't know that. How would one know if their rear seats have locked heaters? To me the FSD addition is huge. That's a lot of value right there ($15k worth currently). Not that I really want/need the feature, but it's a lot of value. I would use it if I had it, for...

    CPO buying price/fees/taxes

"CPO" is indeed a euphamism for what you get from Tesla for used cars. I use the term, because the main site I use to scan the listings is literally called "ev-cpo.com" regardless of the fact that Tesla does not "certify" their used cars. They do however, upgrade almost all of them to FSD...

Vehicle fraudulently transferred out of account without permission

Obviously. But I don't typically have my car for sale on CL, which makes it a better target for this kind of thing. You seem to be missing the point though. You are emphasizing how easy it is to get the VIN, as if we should just not worry about it. The fact that it's so easy is exactly the...

Yes exactly. Assuming OP's story is true, and we have no reason to assume otherwise, it would seem that anyone with the VIN of a Tesla could initiate a fraudulent change of ownership with Tesla and take control of the car via the app. You can also look up vehicle history, where it's been...

How did you sell it? To whom did you sell it? To the original buyer who tried to transfer it before (causing this issue), or someone new? I'm considering an upgrade to my Model S75 via a CPO purchase. Does anyone know what the fees and taxes are when buying a CPO Tesla from out of state, and having it delivered in California? CA DMV shows that used car fees and taxes should be roughly $15 plus about 9.x% tax on the sale price...

MCU1 owners: what should we expect from our cars?

I guess this is the crux of my question - I did not think that FSD "required" MCU for anything. MCU provides the visualizations, but those are not "required" for AP/FSD, right? The FSD computer does the heavy lifting, and that (AP computer upgrade) is included in the price of FSD. So, as long...

MCU1 owners: what should we expect from our cars?

Interesting. Is the implication here that FSD should still work, even without the MCU2 upgrade, but that it will be a less-than-ideal visual experience? Or will FSD not function at all w/o the upgraded MCU? If the latter, then I'd say they need to pony up. But I also somewhat agree with...

Someone explain please: If you bought a 2017 mcu1 model S and paid for FSD as part of the initial purchase, are you now unable to use FSD if you wanted to? The beta of FSD is now available to "anyone (with the hardware for it) who asks." I thought if you at any point purchased FSD, that they...

Buying a used 2019 Model S 100D what should I be on the lookout for?

You get to see and inspect the car before driving it off the lot. You aren't forced to buy something sight-unseen. But if you want to give some dealer your money for a car w/o EAP or FSD for almost the same price, seems like you're throwing money away. The one benefit I see is that you might...
