Tesla doing what Tesla does...rapidly adapting. New supercharger layout at a WaWa (deployed a month ago). Notice the 2 spots that are SUPER WIDE (and a 3rd one utilizing the buffer as well): Other bank had the normal setup: Hello Cybertruck! Or maybe they'll get magic docks soon?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

New Semi Video: And this is the twitter link with most of the information: This guy has had some great insights from Investor Day (he was there) where he spoke to Tom Zhu! He's interviewed Franz before, if I remember correctly. Cybertruck info is tomorrow...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I did cringe a little when he mentioned that smaller car that would cost 50% would mostly use autonomy. But let's hope wall street doesn't pick up on that (for the record, I personally think that it will be the case)...

The Model X Plaid is a BARGAIN! Model X with 6 seats: $106,490 Model X Plaid with 6 seats: $109,990 The Plaid only comes in 6 seats, and is included in the price. So for the same config (6 seats), it's only $3,500 more!!!

@unk45, how did the panels/color hold up?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thanks for finding this. Yes, this was the one! I misremembered my brake vendors. But you can see how this will help enable the "unboxing" new way of assembly they showed during Investor Day. There are 3 new technology breakthroughs/utilizations that make it all possible: Front and Rear...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Bosch showed off a system they said they were working with "a major EV maker" (i.e. Tesla) where it was all Brake by wire (on autoline after hours, if I remember correctly). I fully expected this on the Cybertruck, but it makes sense why you'd need it for the next gen platform! It's all coming...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Lost in translation is my bet. The LAND SIZE is twice that of Giga Texas.
  10. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I've never seen one shown or reported. There are major difference in the bodies of the 2 versions. On the 2 gigacastings version, the sides that hold the front and back gigacastings together are downright flimsy. They NEED that structural pack for rigidity and to resist twisting. What I'm...
  11. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The last two are the same. You need structural battery packs to use 2 gigacastings. But to your point, having 2 different assemblies based on battery type is definitely not optimal!
  12. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Sandy talked at the after party that the local Tesla club put on that the new motor was some new-to-Tesla type that provided 30% more power. That might balance out the change noted above and still give good performance (but maybe not as good as current drive trains).
  13. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

My biggest takeaways: Fully sustainable future is doable, and less than the cost of keeping the current status quo ($10T vs. $14T) Tesla is so far ahead of everyone else, and continuing to accelerate away from them Tesla has so many different areas of deep knowledge and expertise Tesla...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Wasn't trying to derail the investor thread, but demand, and the timing of a redesign on it, is the only reason I brought it up. Also, one of the reasons Ross gave to Reuters about why he was dropping his bid for a board seat was that Tesla was going to start doing things he was pushing for...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

My hope is they start advertising, just to educate consumers on charging, road trips, safety, etc. With that simple push, I think they'll sell every one they can make, regardless of change since newbies won't know or care about the change (maybe afterwards, but not now). Only us diehards hang on...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

And yet here were are, with over 350,000 FSD Beta running around without any major accidents. I think real world trumps an "experts" opinion, don't you?
  17. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

That's why I think FSD has gone up to $15,000. To cover the cost of either upgrading the hardware, or getting them a new car...

How big is Hertz's fleet now (i.e. what's that equate to in unit count)?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This was brought up when the bill came out originally. The opening up is only for NEW, Federally Funded chargers. And I'm pretty sure it specifically states that the charger must contain a CCS connector as a requirement (additional other types were ok though). I don't remember any POS or screen...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed. What I think most people forget is how massive the interior space of the Cybertruck is. Elon is over 6 feet tall, and he had a TON of headroom when Jay Leno drove and he rode along. They can just make the floor higher (maybe not all of the second layer hight, but most of it), and it'll...
  21. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

My understanding is $3,750 is for the vehicle and battery pack, and $3,750 is for the battery, with material sourcing stipulations. Completely agree that March will either come and go without a ruling, or they'll figure something out to give legacy (and Tesla) a little longer to get the...
  22. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Good point, but then the price may go up at that point. If nothing changes, that after March 1st, it should be: IRA: $3,750 IRA Battery assembly of $10/KW (* 60 KW) $600 Total IRA: $4,350 Amount not covered: $4,185 Profit: $165 So just their normal car profit then. It almost works out too...
  23. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Profits Secured! If you look at the lease deal from Tesla on a Model 3, it's as follows: $4,500 down $349/mo = $12,564 Total paid by lessee: $17,064 The IRA has a $4,500 rebate for used cars that are below $25,000, so we know what the car will be worth at the very least when returned: $24,999...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Ford had a horrible quarter. They said they executed poorly, didn't deliver 100,000+ cars, and even though revenue was up significantly, they missed earnings big time. This all while there was no "EV Price War" and they still had the ability to gouge consumers! If you wondered what the death of...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Also remember that all that battery weight in the bottom of the vehicle helps prevent it from flipping or going airbourne. If you watch the video, it appears once the pack leaves the vehicle, it shoots upward and almost flips!

  27. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The funds are in the $1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill. One of the requirements to get the money was the charger had had to support more than one manufacturer. This is why I think Tesla formalized their charging plug into a standard, so hopefully one other OEM will adopt it and they can get...

FSD Transfer and I'd pull the trigger today (as I bet a lot of people would)!
  29. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

With sky high used prices, it made sense for them to keep getting the cars back and reselling themselves for the profit. Also, let's be honest, the vast majority of people who did return their leases just turned around and bought another Tesla. My instincts is this policy will get updated...
  30. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Trying to stick to car vs. car and not including SUVs. But it does make an excellent comparison in price per month. For reference, the Model 3 is getting a $34/month "incentive" over the Model Y, for the same leased amount ($1,224 over the life of the lease term).
  31. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Tesla launches a $399/mo lease special on Model 3 with $4,500 down. For comparison: Cheapest BMW I could find was a 2 series for $489/mo with $5,389 down Cheapest Mercedes A-Class for $469/mo and $3,623 down. Toyota Camry LE is $299/mo with $3,598 down Honda Accord $289/mo with $4,099 down...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Project Highland theory Maybe it's not the Model 3 structure, but HOW the structure is built. If you look at the above photo from the Earnings Report, it looks very different from the ones we've seen in the past. It looks like everything is being welded in one place, vs. running down a line...
  33. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

My guess is all money that is above running Giga Shanghai goes to Chinese suppliers for parts to other parts of the world. Just the CATL bill alone is probably sufficient to suck up any excesses.
  34. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

You can add wheels or a tow hitch afterwards via Tesla accessories. So the only limit to choice is having a white interior with any other exterior color than White.
  35. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

My interpretation of the Model 3 Highland (there can be only one): The Model 3 and Model Y will use the same front and rear castings. All the attachments and sheet metal will be unique, but not the underpinnings. Just my guess (vs. the one solid cast for the entire car, which it could still be).
  36. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

@Olle, might just be the Orlando service center. Tampa is great, and they're getting ready to open a St. Petersburg location (more like Pinellas Park).
  37. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

If you watched the Monroe tear down of the F150 Lightning, and saw the assembly "line" that makes them from Ford's own video, you'll know that they aren't planning on scaling it up much, regardless of what they say publicly. And yes, Cramer is an idiot. He used to be good at telegraphing...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

BYD was a Munger purchase, after he met with the founder. They've also reduced their share of the company from 20%+ to 15%.
  39. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

He covered that. Basically the customer pays for everything, and there's margin on it. The Megapack is $2 million+, the install is like $250k, and then there's a maintenance contract of $8k per megawatt (if I remember the last part right). He's saying the core purchase has 50% margin, and...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Buffett owns a lot of car dealerships too. There's a reason he hasn't invested in Tesla. They're success degrades a lot of his businesses: Oil, insurance, car dealerships, utilities, even trains (autonomous Semis). Literally the opposite of Tesla.
  41. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Slap a $589/month lease special somewhere on the website and that ratio will change ASAP! BMW leased over 50% of their vehicles, at least per-pandemic.
  42. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed on only the ones within the $56k-80k range. BTW, the cheap $589 lease solves this by not needing the 3rd row to still get the tax break. Tesla is the outlier here when it comes to percentages of sales as leases (single digits), so there's a ton of room to grow as well.
  43. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

How much does the 3rd row seats cost Tesla? $1,000? $1,500? It seems the simplest solution is to make the 7 seats standard. Either eat the $1,000-$1,500 cost, or raise the price by that amount (not $3k). The theory being, selling a LR Model Y for $58k with rebate should cause a massive demand...
  44. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Tesla typically doesn't make too many changes for the first week or two after the end of the quarter to upset people who just took delivery. I'd expect a raft of changes when they come.
  45. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Does anyone know if the price limits ($55k and $80k) are for the base price, the price fully optioned, or the price a customer pays?
  46. Speedr117

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

LEASING! It's considered commercial, and therefore doesn't follow any of the rules for sourcing, income, or price (as I understand them). This alone would solve a lot, since MOST BMW, Merc, etc. people just lease their cars/SUVs. Can you imagine a $599/month deal...
