I treat dashcams like airbags - hope to never need them but I put then in every family car, including a Tesla which has Sentry/Dashcam built-in because I don't trust it between updates (there have been updates in the past which FUBR'ed dashcam functionality, of course not mentioned in the...

    Roadster 2023

Doesn’t take hindsight. I’ve been telling people since FSD was announced to do the same - if you truly believe your car will self drive autonomously like Elon said, serve in a fleet to Tesla ride sharing network, then take the FSD money and buy TSLA stock instead. If Tesla makes it happen, their...

    Roadster 2023

No time machine needed. Just pragmatic thinking. If you trust Elon to give him a quarter million dollars for vapor car, you obviously believe the company will be around and doing well enough to manufacture such low volume/non-profit car, which means the stock will be doing great. If stock tanks...

    Roadster 2023

Anyone who had such blind trust in Elon to give him $250K for a Roadster back then, should have just bought TSLA stock instead. 250K would be over $2.5M today. If you feel the need for EV speed, you cold pickup a Rimac Nevera for that money, and if Roadster ever comes, you can sell the Nevera...

They ascertaining remaining vaporcar interest. Perhaps too many existing reservation holders took their money back to even bother setting up any production line at all. Given the volume and frequency of posts in the 202x Roadster forum, it seems people are pretty much over it by now - the car...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

The question is can it be done by a rental customer, or only service center. EDIT: apparently it can be done according to this post. I will give it a try I guess.

No, an actual Tesla fob which Tesla sells for M3/Y. I have a spare one at home, and an upcoming rental.

Free supercharging vs Full self driving (POLL)

Actually had it (still have it) on both AP1 (AP) and AP2.5 (EAP). Would never trust either one of those to change lanes - with AP1 tried it once when next to a tractor-trailer, it would have plowed right into it had I not stopped it. Never specifically tried the same setup on AP2.5, but just...

[RHD] Model S/X Delivery - Tesla cancel RHD option

If you read my post, you know I was comparing P85DL with Sport+ suspension, to a Taycan Turbo with PDCC. RAS, and PTV+. Neither is a proper track race car. because both are large and heavy cars. However, for such heavy cars, Taycan handles way better, way less body roll, and better braking...

[RHD] Model S/X Delivery - Tesla cancel RHD option

For hypermiling, the blended system works better than one pedal driving. In a Tesla, regen is only available via one pedal driving. In a blended brakes system, the brake pedal is essentially brake-by-wire, meaning you get regen when you apply the brakes. Most of off-track braking doesn't use...

[RHD] Model S/X Delivery - Tesla cancel RHD option

One pedal vs. blended braking is a personal preference. However, consistency is just a fact - one pedal driving works differently if the battery is cold or full. Taycan is not incrementally better handling, it's in a whole new league. I loved my Sport+ suspension in my Model S, but after a...

[RHD] Model S/X Delivery - Tesla cancel RHD option

Good point, but yes, I did consider that. Checked the Porsche configurator in UK to make sure Turbo S came with ceramic brakes standard. Also checked with some Taycan forum members from UK to see if perhaps some older model year TTS was offered with PSCBs, the answer was no.

[RHD] Model S/X Delivery - Tesla cancel RHD option

Before I replied to you, I did check the Porsche configurator to see whether Turbo S had a PSCB option in the UK, no. I also did a quick check with some UK Porsche forum members. So yea, your dealer doesn't seem to know his own product. Are you sure it was even a Taycan, or did you just trust...

[RHD] Model S/X Delivery - Tesla cancel RHD option

Well, something doesn't add up, since all Turbo S come with ceramic brakes, and there is no option for PSCB's, not even if you wanted to pay Porsche a ton of money (I happen to know because I looked into ordering a Turbo S with PSCB's). So either you're just making things up, or you have no idea...

[RHD] Model S/X Delivery - Tesla cancel RHD option

Huh? I have a decade of Model S driving (bought 4 new ones) and now driving a Taycan with PSCB brakes (but still have one Model S). Sorry, but Model S brakes are no match for Porsche brakes. I have experienced Model S brake fade outside of track use, and it doesn't feel great. I've traveled in...

    Matrix Headlights Capabilities Enablement Timeline

I understand. Porsche uses the same "global" matrix headlight parts too in EU as they put in my US car, but it doesn't mean they will ever be able to enable its full functionality in the US. As a matter of fact, Porsche already said that they are designing a new headlight to meet US regulations...

    Matrix Headlights Capabilities Enablement Timeline

Not if they were designed before the NHTSA figured out the rules for adaptive headlights in the USA (which turned out different than EU rules, hence the existing hardware on European cars cannot be turned on). If was that easy, Tesla would have enabled them in the US and simplified software for...

    Matrix Headlights Capabilities Enablement Timeline

Matrix headlight standard in US which have been made legal a year and half ago are not the same as the ones in Europe. So a couple of points: Tesla might have to design new matrix headlights for the US to meet the new standards Even if the old lights were somehow capable, US regulations require...

Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

Against a gun, agreed (unless you have your own gun in the glove compartment). Against an RPG, no difference, ICE won't help you either, though might make for a larger fireball. Against a knife or even a baseball bat, inside a locked car gives you time to make a lot of noise, call the cops, grab...

Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

We don't know any facts in this case yet, so all this purely speculation. You not seeing how it could be self defense is just lack of imagination. Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

I see your point, and agree that there are dangers in both EV chargers and gas stations. I'm just not sure either is clearly higher danger/risk. PS>Some gas stations have been removed the "click" lock from their pumps. I've come across this when I travel and rent ICE cars. I asked at one...

Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

Exactly, with EV's people are in cars more, which makes it harder to rob them, as it gives them time to call the police, possibly pull a weapon, etc. You are a lot more vulnerable when holding a gas pump handle to your car than sitting inside a locked vehicle. Once there are more EV's, EV...

Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

If Hollywood movies taught me one thing, is that "finish the job, disable the threat to your life" is the safest defense strategy. Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

Playing devil's advocate. With a gas station you are manning the hose, so not able to drive off. If you choose to stand and hold the EV plug while charging, you can drive off in about the same amount of time. Also, the longer the stay, the more likely there will be other cars fueling up there at...

Tesla replacing ultrasonic sensors with Tesla Vision

I don't personally know anyone who works there anymore, but there is a good chance "they" didn't think it would work, only Elon did. Just like using parking sensors for BSM - Elon never stopped to think why they are called parking sensors (hint, they don't work well at high speeds with wind...

Tesla replacing ultrasonic sensors with Tesla Vision

On par for Elon's other brain farts. Reminds me of when Elon decided he can do BSM using USS, only to cleanse the Tesla website of any blind spot warnings for AP1 cars after they realized Elon never actually had anyone try USS for BSM before claiming the capability. Elon sold it with "we'll...

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

My guess Model X market is too small already for any such upgrade to provide a positive ROI. I remember Elon talking about how both X and S are not making profit anymore, that he's keeping them in production for sentimental value. Or was if deep fake Elon who said that? Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

Can you change those limits? If you know where they came from (which device reports it via CAN) you have a good starting point as to where the limit is stored. If the limit is queried by actual power components of the car, you can spoof CAN messages easily enough.

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

I stand corrected. You are right, they really do underprice the Plaid X (S is $20K premium), perhaps the demand there is really low. It would also explain Tesla only offering one configuration, as they've mostly gone to inventory based, rather than build-on-order model - it streamlines both...
  35. whitex

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

Sorry but that is a useless number since it's not an apples-to-apples comparison since Plaid does not have the 6 seat configuration. I can configure a lower trim Taycan trim to cost only $3,500 less than the top model, but it doesn't mean that there is only $3,500 difference in price between...

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

$3,500 difference between what? When I look at Model S MSRP, Plaid is $20K premium, while the X Plaid is $10K premium. Tesla used to charge $5K for dual motor vs. single, so tri motor vs. dual for $10K or $20K seems right. Also, if, as you say, Plaid is underpriced, then it would suggest lack...
  37. whitex

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

If someone cares about Plaid vs. Saphire pricing, they will probably care about $15K, so if they can get 90% of Plaid performance for $5K instead of $20K, they likely will. Tesla actually already had experience with this, when they sold P90D separate from Ludicrous mode, and there were people...

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

I disagree. First, those "who want the fastest" and "aren't analyzing dollars/performance" get a Rimac Nevera, or if on a budget in Plaid territory, a Lucid Air Sapphire. Second, even at the higher end, even cars priced above Model S/X, people still look for value. Check out the Porsche Taycan...

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

It's not free if it cost them sales of Plaid. Who would buy $20K premium Plaid if they could get even 90% of the performance as a $5K performance boost upgrade. They could make the boost $22K (so $20K at order time to upgrade to Plaid, or $22K after delivery), but I suspect not many people would...

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

You probably represent a small number of customers, or else Plaid would be available with your desired seat configuration. The problem is that mid-tier tends to steal customers from top tier. Perhaps is made financial sense to do on the 3?Y, but not so much on the S/X?
  42. whitex

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

If they didn't pay for Plaid in the first place, they won't pay enough to make it worth while to Tesla (note that offering this can also cost some Plaid sales).

Interesting. I knew someone who tried to order a P85D with a Plus suspension after me, Tesla said it was discontinued. I used to travel on the supercharger network - it worked great. Switched out my Tesla for a CCS car, drove it home from the dealer 3,500 miles away from home. General chit-chat in "For Sale" threads

Just a quick mention. I was recently selling my P85DL+ and then found out that this year's price cuts seems to have motivated a bunch of exiting Tesla owners to upgrade, which in turn resulted in a wave of used cars sent to auction by Tesla. I found this out when trying to trade-in 2 Tesla Model...
