    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Yep FSD enabled cars definitely get SW updates faster. Of course Tesla is not gonna say it authoritatively.

    Autosteer reliability

Yeah I have yet to find a roundabout where it doesn't go 'OH I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO TAKE OVER YOU MORON'.....
  3. race4life81

    Autosteer reliability

Autosteer is really good as long as the lane markings are clear. Autosteer gets very confused on Monash Freeway where there are lane expansions happening. It make me very nervous as it does go very close to the outside lane markings... But otherwise its best at what it does. Although my mate's...

    Free charging?

Nope you can't. Most of the BYO cables require either Type 2 or Type 1 connection (into the charger) and Type 2 connection into the Tesla. For some chargers, you would need the Type 1 to Type 2 converter to plug into the Tesla. Honestly I haven't had to use the Type 2 charger or any other...

When will FSD Subscription come to Australia? Different from master FSD thread.

FSD subscription is independent of the FSD BETA v9 from what I can tell. The subscription details only appear if you haven't purchased the FSD already (at least AFAIK). It makes sense if you change your car frequently like they do in the US, where paying 10K on a lease car doesn't make sense...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

7K cheaper in VIC. Wow thats pretty bad for recent owners (like me).. could‘ve added FSD in the price. But then again I guess I wont be alone in this. Edit: Is there any point in reaching out to Tesla to see if they will add the FSD as a sweetener ?

Electrical vehicles will be taxed in Victoria Australia from July 1, 2021

Hope not !! The law is only applicable from today so we shouldn't need to pay for prior to today. But If you don't send your odometer reading today they will calculate the daily average and add to it retrospectively when you true up next year. Feels like Oracle software licensing now.. people in...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

fair enough (no questions without question marks right?) . I had my hands on the steering wheel in both instances and was paying attention.. the fact that AP braked so hard and so suddenly while travelling at 102 km/h is what scared me, I pretty much had the pedal to metal instantly to avoid...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

quick question folks.. 1. Phantom braking (while using AP/FSD) almost ended in the 4WD up in my ass (well the car's) yesterday . Scared the living daylights outta me too. Not sure its just vision or radar thing, it feels like a software thing. 2. And the other thing that happened yesterday was...

Some good news… and not so good news

Heatwaves are exactly why govts should prioritise renewable power and batteries. Imagine every single person trying to cool by using AC in their home while the supply buckles under pressure (we have already seen enough evidence about this). Having a subsidised home battery + solar power or wind...

Comprehensive insurance recommendations in NSW Australia

NRMA should do it. I am in VIC but am with RACV. same same isn't it? I've also seen Tesla Tom compare some insurance companies on YT. CommInsure was my other one that I tried. YMMV

New Model 3 Owner - I Have Questions

+1 to everything that @meloccom said. For ceramic coating or PPF, I use Affinese and they are pretty good. They are located in Clayton so might not be convenient for you. You can give them a call and tell them Harsha referred you. You can also join TOCA and get some free services from...

Tesla Model 3 Tinting Melbourne - Any recommendations?

I like the current look with the hub cap. I might look at getting a red T logo on the wheels but not sure how they'll look with white colour body..

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Weird / Newbie question, my HPWC struggles to connect properly to my car. It takes 3-4 goes before the connection is stable. Is this something that normal or should I get someone to come and check if the charge port on the car or the HPWC is wonky.. been like this since Day 1...I have to line up...

Nope RACV. They are pretty good prices all things considering. Again I’ve chosen market value (since they have 2 years old for new) and not agreed value.

Yep they’re getting it together across the ditch

NZ has always been better at doing things for cars etc. My cousin when he was there bought hi perf imports almost every 2 years, he was there for about 10 years before moving to US. We only have hope for things like that if our resident dinosaurs (scum <- autocorrect SCOMO and Dan Andrews) are...

    Insurance quotes for Australian M3?

The difference of adding a hire car was less than $60 and it just meant I would have peace of mind if something unforeseen was to happen.. especially after reading the issues with panel beaters and glass repairers for Tesla I thought better to be safe than sorry.
  34. race4life81

    Insurance quotes for Australian M3?

im paying 1700 for Perf Model 3 with the whole lot - glass cover, hire car, new for old for 2 years and choice of repairer. My excess is $2000.

2 years on from selling my S, I'm considering a 3. What has got better, what still sucks?

Some folk are friendlier than others. Had a grief from a Ford Ranger guy yesterday while driving back from supermarket. After turning right onto a main road, I had to get to the left most lane and this guy in the ranger behind me acclerated fast enough to not let me in, which was fine so I...

    Suspension Upgrades - Melbourne

Not sure about the workshop but have a look at mountainpass performance (they are in Canada) for their coilover setup. I would recommend going with something that has been tested thoroughly. Eibach website doesn't mention 2021 performance so may be tread with caution. may be ask MPP if they know...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Yep I can vouch for the experience being the same. I had to constantly call them to get updates on where it was. Most of the time it was we will let you know when its ready but no specific time or info given out. Sales CX is pretty bad and the only way it can be better is if they invest in...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I got SMS updates regularly in the last 10 days leading up to the delivery. Before that it was nothing. I kept getting SMS every couple of days or so and then called them to confirm what to do and got the confirmation SMS for 'click and collect' after the call.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Picked up my Performance Model 3 yesterday. Haven't done a lot of driving due to lockdown and a new pup at home. Its an amazing car to drive. Loving every minute of it. I'll post pics once I've got a few mins to take the photos. Delivery was ok since it was touchless click and collect. Vehicle...

    Best Electricity Plans - Victoria

If you have solar it would make sense to charge the car during the day (if possible). This is what I was told by the Tesla HPWC installer that I used. I guess this becomes easier in Summer than winter due to the short days we have now. The feed in price at 10c is pretty much useless but then...

Has anyone taken their Tesla onto the Sydney Motor Sport Park / Eastern Creek for a race day/night?

Yep PS4S is the successor for Super Sport. Sport Cup 2 are completely different to PS4S. Sport Cup 2 are the standard on most of the AMGs/M Cars/ Porsche so they are not semi slick, but are very close to semi slicks in terms on performance (they are road legal and do quite well on track). They...
  45. race4life81

Has anyone taken their Tesla onto the Sydney Motor Sport Park / Eastern Creek for a race day/night?

Full slicks are gonna be super expensive.. semi slicks are good enough unless you are aiming to get every single second out of the car around a track. With slicks you would need tyre warmers, maintain enough pace to keep them operating in the right temp and too much headache. I have never used...
  46. race4life81

Has anyone taken their Tesla onto the Sydney Motor Sport Park / Eastern Creek for a race day/night?

I would go for something race spec from Enkei if they make it for Tesla pattern ( which I think is the same pattern as MB/AMG). No more than 18/19s with Michelin Super Sport or Sport Cups or Bridgestone Potenza. (I haven't done track day in forever but definitely looking to get back into it once...
  47. race4life81

Has anyone taken their Tesla onto the Sydney Motor Sport Park / Eastern Creek for a race day/night?

If you are planning to do more track days, you should definitely buy a set of wheels + tyres specific for track runs. Also make sure that you are a little under inflated going into the track, as the tyres start heating up, the pressure is better and provides you with more grip. As you said, if...

    Tesla hits emergency vehicle... Again

Fair enough. I still blame the idiot driver who didn't intervene in time. There is a rule now here in Melbourne (AU) we have to leave 1.5 meters to an emergency vehicle stopped on the road and slow down to 40km/h while we pass them, 3 demerit points and $350 fine for not following that rule.
  49. race4life81

    Tesla hits emergency vehicle... Again

Amazing that AP didn't pick it up. My 3 year old Range Rover and 5 Year old MB C300 have picked up vehicles partially blocking the lane and slowed down when using 'Radar Cruise Control'. Tesla needs to do better.
