Passenger restraint system fault rendering car unsafe with passenger

So Tesla wants to charge me a diagnostics fee of $265 just to tell me what the problem is. I’ve paid for Tesla service before but never have they charged a diagnostics fee. Pretty frustrating.

Passenger restraint system fault rendering car unsafe with passenger

What is the effect of not repairing this? Is it actually a safety issue? and what would the implication be (if any) in a collision? I’d be very reluctant to dish out $1,000 for this if safety is not compromised.

Passenger restraint system fault rendering car unsafe with passenger

I’m in the same boat. Tesla did a repair for this same issue under warranty which fixed it for a while but I recently had this alert pop up again. Now I’m out of warranty. A lot of things don’t seem right about this. If Tesla repaired it with a “band aid” fix before shouldn’t they be...

    BMW latest convert to NACS

Disagree. I’m an owner and I want other manufacturers to pay Tesla a fixed rate per vehicle to support expanding the supercharging network. It’s not sufficient to simply charge $/kwh. Part of the cost baked in to the purchase of a Tesla is to support the charging infrastructure.

    BMW latest convert to NACS

How much do these manufactures have to pay Tesla to gain access to the supercharger network? Or is Tesla just giving it to them for free? There needs to be a commensurate increase in the number of superchargers to accommodate all the excess vehicles. Other networks will not keep pace with Teslas...

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

the 89% round trip efficiency is indeed disappointing. Other DC coupled solar battery storage units have higher round trip efficiencies, closer to 95%.

    Why would I need Powerwall+?

I found this LG unit but it’s not clear if it’s DC coupled. Hard to tell what the PCS is doing. Is it feeding the battery with DC from solar? https://www.lg.com/global/business/download/resources/ess/ESS_HOME_8_10_Datasheet_EN.pdf

    Why would I need Powerwall+?

@Transformer @cali8484 what are the LG and SolarEdge whole home BESS that are the equivalent of a Tesla Powerwall? Im particularly interested in the spec sheets. A cursory inspection of their websites wasn’t very helpful.

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

There is no way I can replace my inverter with a “like for like” if it were to fail. They stopped manufacturing it over 10 years ago. It seems pretty crazy to force solar system owners to completely rewire their system just because they put in a new inverter. I have 20 panels on one string so...

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

Is UL 3741 applicable to solar installations that are 15+ years old? My system doesn’t have rapid shutdown now and it is still approved to operate. If I need to replace my solar inverter, I can’t see how they can require me to comply with new code unless there is a retrofit requirement. The...

    Map Default Zoom Level

For some reason, each software update recently seems to increase the default zoom level on the map. At this point my map defaults to a 500’ radius around my position. Not sure how that is helpful. How do I set the default zoom level?

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

PW2 is a deal breaker for me. I mean if PW2 is the only option I will look elsewhere for my battery storage needs. What is the technical explanation for PW3 not integrating with an existing solar system if it replaces the inverter? Setting aside positive grounded panels.

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

You should be able to order PW3 direct regardless of what your setup is but installation will be on you.

Ok, fair point. Glad I do not have Sunpower panels.
  15. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

Right, I would replace my 17 year old inverter with PW3.
  16. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

Correct, I don’t accept what Tesla says at face value 100% of the time. I like to understand how things work and Tesla doesn’t provide any logical reason to support that statement.

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

A solar inverter is a solar inverter. It doesn’t matter what brand of panels you have. I will connect my panels to the PW3 and it will work.
  18. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

What size is the solar inverter in the PW3? It seems to depend on the PV voltage? My PV array operates at 240 V so does that mean the max I’ll get is 240 x 13 = 3.1 kW? That would be disappointing.

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

Anyone order Powerwall direct recently in SoCal? I’d be curious to know the PW version and whether anyone has requested PW3.

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

How does this work if you order Powerwall direct? Can the order be canceled before a purchase agreement is signed?
  21. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

@andy92782 what are the dimensions of the Powerwall you received? PW3 is considerably smaller than PW2.
  22. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

Manufacturing costs are expected to be lower for PW3 but this may not translate to the retail price.
  23. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

So the PW3 has an integrated solar inverter with MPPT?
  24. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

Oh, I think you meant kW not kWh.

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

@TJ21CT what do you mean by 20kWh in/out?
  26. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

This is very interesting. Has anyone ordered a Powerwall direct recently and confirmed the version? I would think Powerwall direct orders would be processed faster and therefore better reflect current inventory.
  27. A

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

@andy92782 what makes you believe you will get a PW3? Tesla hasn’t officially released it and the specs on the website for current orders are consistent with PW2.

Powerwall as backup fed by non-Tesla solar

I read that Powerwall can either be charged by solar or the grid, not both. I’m wondering why that is and what the difference would be in terms of wiring. I have an existing solar system installed many years ago. Do I need a Tesla solar inverter to charge the Powerwall with solar? Or will my...

    Why would I need Powerwall+?

Interesting that they used to make a DC Powerwall. Do other battery storage solutions for solar offer DC input? I’m new to this area and am not familiar with the range of solar battery storage products available.
  30. A

    Why would I need Powerwall+?

Seems inefficient no? The inverter has to covert DC from solar to AC, but then the Powerwall has to reverse the process and convert AC to DC to charge the batteries.
  31. A

    Why would I need Powerwall+?

Tesla Powerwalls store energy as DC electricity and supply the home with AC electricity. Thus, all Powerwalls must be equipped with an inverter. If I connect my solar panels directly to the Powerwall then the DC from the solar can directly charge the Powerwall without need for an inverter. Thus...

Powerwalls now available for direct order

I read that Tesla started allowing consumers to purchase Powerwalls directly thru its website. However, after putting in my address the only option displayed is to purchase thru a certified installer. Is this correct?

    Emergency 120 V power adapter

My friend has a Hyundai Ioniq and he was recently able to power multiple appliances in his home during a power outage using an emergency power adapter that comes with the Ioniq. The adapter provides a 120 V outlet directly from the charge port. The Ford F150 Lightning is also equipped with...

Headlights defaulting to auto high beam

HW 2.5 vehicles do not have Vision and yet the auto high beam feature is worse than it was a year ago. Previously, auto high beams would only enable when I manually switched high beams on. Now, the only way to have auto high beams is to enable it in settings which causes the high beams to enable...

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

Per CVRP staff, Tesla would need to apply to the program first in order to be eligible. They are not automatically approved just because they dropped prices.

Show Notifications missing in iPhone Bluetooth settings

Thanks. Yep, I deleted the Bluetooth device on both the Tesla and my iPhone and then proceeded to repair it. However, after doing so the Show Notifications setting is not there.

    Tesla goes over cliff-pacific-coast-highway-California-miracle survivors

This is impressive. However, shouldn’t the driver assistance features have prevented the vehicle from veering off the road? I guess it was traveling too fast for the computer to react and apply corrective steering?

Show Notifications missing in iPhone Bluetooth settings

I’ve been having lots of issues with Sync Messages in the Tesla software. I decided to repair my phone to the vehicle thinking this would solve it. However, after doing so, “Show Notifications” disappeared from the Bluetooth settings on my iPhone. How do I get it back?

Holiday update? what can we expect?

I have distilled my UI/UX requests down to two items that are fairly easy to implement. I hope that Tesla could consider these suggestions for the 2022 Holiday Update. 1. Bring back the map zoom in/out buttons. When the user touches the map, these buttons should appear. I cannot fathom why it...

October 2022 Recall [Inspect Rear seat belts]

I couldn’t find a thread on this already. Anyone know what type of service repairs would cause this? I had my rear seats removed by service last year so they could access the HV penthouse. The center seat belt anchor was detached when I got my car back. Am I affected...
