Phone as a key stopped working suddenly (April 2023)

My phone will sometimes close the Tesla app. I think that's when I cannot use the phone as key. There may be settings on your phone that will help.

When traveling, do you bother with trying to find hotels with EV charging? Can you depend on them?

The data block on Tesla's screen used to show destination charging. I don't see it anymore. We have resorted to calling ahead and asking but you have to get the front desk and not a reservationist. Since we make reservations as we approach anyway, it works to call and check then reserve. If you...

When traveling, do you bother with trying to find hotels with EV charging? Can you depend on them?

Found this out today. Tesla map in car used to include an icon for destination charging in the data block for a hotel. We're staying in a LaQuinta that has Destination charging but we only found it by using Google maps and looking thru the amenities link. Anyone have a good way of finding these?

Expired Model 3 wheels and tires. 4 X 18" Titan 7 forged wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires...

If you are willing to contract with an outfit that will pick them up at my house, or let me drop them off locally, then OK. I'm not inclined to buy boxes, pack them, and pay UPS to ship them. Here is the results of a search I did...

Expired Model 3 wheels and tires. 4 X 18" Titan 7 forged wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires...

So since we all know each other, I'm James. Wife is not real happy about dragging these across country but I'm trying to make it work. We've been planning this vacation before the heavy rains on the spring, closed roads parks, then hoards of people, hurricane, etc. I have family history in SF...

Well, I have no firm offers as far as I can tell. We'll be in Ca soon and are willing to travel a little out of our way but no one has proposed a meeting place or anything.

Sure if you're able to figure out how. There are companies who will pickup, pack and ship. We'll be in Ca in a few weeks but not planning to go to SF.

    M3P after market wheel fitment

I have a set of 18" Titan7's on my 2018 M3P. They are only 18 lb each. I also have a set of new Titan7's and tires for sale here: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/marketplace/users/feathermerchan.86116/

I'm looking for an efficiency formula. Drive speed vs charging time.

I just drove a 560 mile round trip. Followed my routine outlined above. Had a great time on the back roads and never thought about range. Only Supercharged 4 times.

Why are There No 14-30 Outlet Timers?

Here is a 240V 40A relay. It has a 120 Volt coil you can run with your 120V timer. It is 3 pole but you need only use 2. Put it all in a junction box...

Can I extend my Nema 14-50 from a different location?

If you mean use the wires in the Romex, yes if they are THHN and the Romex sheath is removed. Romex is not supposed to be exposed. It can be in a wall or attic.

Can I extend my Nema 14-50 from a different location?

For a 50Amp circuit it should be 6 gauge. When extending it, if it's not in the wall, it cannot be Romex. It is supposed to be in conduit. Flexible metal or plastic conduit is OK as far as I know. The wire inside should be THHN which you can buy at HD or Lowes. You can use the existing box if...

I'm looking for an efficiency formula. Drive speed vs charging time.

The car can tell you what you need to know. While charging watch the display of the remaining charge at your next stop. I leave when it says ~10%. Then when driving, if it starts dropping below 10%, slow down. If it climbs above 10% speed up. The 10% is only a suggestion. You may be more...

1st road trip on new M3P. Any advice?

I have a 2018 Model 3P. My first road trip was 560 miles total. Charging was easy. I was more nervous about the 'no sidewall' tires. 35 series on 20" wheels only leaves you about 1.25" from the rim to the concrete (pot hole). So carry plenty of air and check the TPMS regularly. I carry ~5lb over...

Unless you're going to track it, brakes don't matter. If you are, you'll need aftermarket brakes.

Remember that with staggered tire setups, you cannot rotate front to back so they will not last as long. Some tire companies exclude their tire mileage warranties on staggered setups.

Y Performance Model- Looking for Insights

Wife has a MYLR and loves it. It's about twice as fast as her KIA Sorento. I bought a M3P in 2018. Immediately got rid of the performance wheels and tires. Wheels = heavy and tires gave only about 1 1/4" from rim to concrete. Nor for me. With the change, immediate improvement in ride and range...

When traveling, do you bother with trying to find hotels with EV charging? Can you depend on them?

Very first long trip, we started looking for a hotel while still about 2 hours out from our planned stop. The data block on the car's nav screen for the LaQuinta in Cookeville Tenn. showed to have destination charging. I called the hotel using the handset icon on the data block and confirmed...

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

You can get a deeper box that will make it easier. I regret that I did not. I could not find the nice 'two plate' receptacle but I did find that if I twisted the strands tightly together, they did not separate when the screw was tightened. You can also use ferrules to surround the wire.

I'm sitting here in my air conditioned house in DFW where it is regularly over 100 degF this time of year. My house and A/C unit are both about 38 years old. So electronics can last a long time. Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

Typical testing for Lithium cells is charging at 1C and discharging at 1C. That would be about 75 kW on our Model 3 and Y cars. My Y and 3 use about 20kW at 70 mph. So charging at ~11kW is really nothing.

How many Amps are you planning to use? I built mine for 40A but rarely use over 10A. Maybe a smaller circuit would suffice and save you lots of $$$.

In my #6 Romex, the #6 was THHN inside the outer sheath. Yes you should always have some sord of strain relief. In new construction, they usually staple the Romex near the box. You can buy short lengths of flexible conduit for really short runs like you're talking about.

Self-Discharge Within 2 Hours of Recharge!

You might try waking up to witness the end of charge and see what it actually is. I don't use any schedule for charging but sometimes when I have it set to stop at 80% it charges to 83%.

VHS vs Beta not a good comparison. There are NACS/CCS adaptors. There never were VHS/Beta adaptors. Anyway great to hear. Good thing I bough some Tesla stock a month ago.

    40A Corded Mobile Connector issues?

Great news. Would you consider sending the old connector to me so I could troubleshoot it?

    40A Corded Mobile Connector issues?

OK I see. If the only bad part is the plug, you may be able to replace it. You may have to dig the thermistor out of it though and put it into the new plug. I have the Gen1 UMC with the adaptors.

    40A Corded Mobile Connector issues?

Which CMC is this? Is it a Tesla brand? I've never seen one with no removable plug/adaptor.

    40A Corded Mobile Connector issues?

Does the UMC draw the same Amps as the problem unit? If only the plug and cord up to the connection to the box (the removable adaptor) is hot then can you just buy a replacement and see if that works?

Phone as a key stopped working suddenly (April 2023)

My wife's phone deleted permissions from her Tesla App because she had not opened it in months. Once I restored the deleted permissions, it worked fine. Deleting the App and reloading it and logging in would do the same as I did but take longer.

Had anyone tried it out? Maybe I'll do it tomorrow or tonight. It's less than 10 min away. I went and it works! It's not yet on the car's map or Tesla's website map. There are 12 stalls and one is suitable for pulling straight in.

How much did you pay for wall charger install?

You may want to try one 50A 6-50 in a central location. We have found we can charge our Model 3 and Y on 10A each and never have a problem. The Tesla Gen 2 EVSE can only support 32A anyway. I have two Gen 1's (used) but never use them for 40A. So one 6-50 located where a Gen 1 (longer cord) can...
