    FSD Beta v11.x

Finally something worth while. FSD now only needs a single pull to initiate or disengage.
  2. A

    FSD Beta v11.x

Bottom line for me When monitoring FSD when you have to lean forward because of an obstructed view and you cannot safely creep any further FSD is compromised. Simple. For many people this may never occur or occur infrequently. For me it is every day.

    FSD Beta v11.x

Saw a post on X confirming someone just received 2023.38.9. (11.4.4). Did a software check and am now downloading the update. Coming from 2023.32.9.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

True but if you go back to all Tesla unveiling's the stock has generally not done well. Hopefully tomorrow will be the exception. The 3 was a roller coaster. From standing in line to place a $1k deposit to picking up my M3 without ever having seen one in person. My first drive was out of the...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Shares went down 5% the day after the Model Y unveiling (3/15/19) and I believe that is consistent with other Tesla inveilings. The market will react to pricing and range so we'll see.

    FSD Beta v11.x

The fender camera won't help here but I will try and capture an image from that intersection for confirmation. When I got my HW4 Model Y I checked all the camera views. What I found was the front "wide" view and "fender" view are of little help in situations like this. I was actually very...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Anything would be an improvement but the front left corner location cannot see over hoods or snow banks but it's front location would be so much better.

    FSD Beta v11.x

My preference for HW5 is adding two cameras with 90 degree wide angle view to the existing windshield area for the following reasons: Not sure though if they could be added in such a way to avoid sun glare. The key is that every time a human leans forward to monitor FSD decisions at...

EV drivetrains take twice as long to assemble as internal combustion engines

I know that but the article was implying EV complexity which needs to be looked at in different ways otherwise the article isn't balanced.. For example what is the end result related to service? It's the same thing when fossil fuel supporters neglect to the include the full cost to actually...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Starting at 2:35 the B-pillar's view is restricted by the bushes/tree. Not a lot but just enough that the driver felt very unsafe when the car pulled out. Classic problem with FSD.
  12. A

    FSD Beta v11.x

Just left/right cameras that are closer to the front, not 9 feet behind the front of the car. It's all about improving FSD visibility when there are obstructions limited how well FSD can see cross traffic. Whenever a human has to lean forward visibility relying on the B-pillar camera is...

EV drivetrains take twice as long to assemble as internal combustion engines

I'm not talking about me but the average person who has their engine changed. Most shops want your car for a few days. Tesla service will do it in a couple of hours. After all the motor is about the size of a large watermelon with only a couple of connections.
  14. A

    FSD Beta v11.x

Here are the updated pictures taken at the same time. Hope this helps. Picture 1- Yellow line shows what the B-pillar can see (yellow line) compared to the driver leaning forward can see. This likely explains why FSD sometimes begins to enter the intersecting requiring an intervention...

EV drivetrains take twice as long to assemble as internal combustion engines

So my question for the authors is how long will it take to replace a motor in a Tesla vehicle compared to replacing an ICE engine? You're talking a few hours versus many days.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Obviously, Optimus has completed training by watching videos of the initial hand made production CT's and is already applying elbow grease on every CT going out the door. I feel better already knowing this.
  17. A

    Launch is Imminent

I'm glad you said probably. Also probable that once the CT is in the wild and traditional enthusiasts evaluate how well stainless steel holds up and the CT's off road capabilities that many enthusiasts will become fans. We'll see. Lots of really successful vehicles are niche vehicles so that...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Hilarious yes. I believe Omar is now stuck with 11.4.4 since he has a new HW4 car. His drives are worse now and you can tell he's annoyed since his older car ran 11.4.7.3 which was better. My new HW4 car is on 11.4.4 and has lots of regressions.
  19. A

    FSD Beta v11.x

You certainly have a point. It's just too bad that Tesla didn't avoid this whole problem by having cameras that are making decisions on crossing traffic closer to the front of the car. At this intersection I have had FSD launch many times with cars coming right at me requiring disengagements...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I apologize for what happened. I went back about 30 minutes later to take the 2nd picture since a car came up behind me. Thought I was at the same spot in the road. Obviously not. I will do this again the right way.

    FSD Beta v11.x

FYI the distance from the top of my Model Y steering wheel to the B-pillar camera is about 30". What Model do you have? We have a lot of roads without shoulders making an additional creep a problem. More than once I've let FSD creep where it wants to forcing traffic to either slow way down or...
  22. A

    FSD Beta v11.x

The car isn't more forward the driver is. Almost 2 1/2 feet further forward. That is why it's an obstructed view.

FSD V12 (end to end AI)

Interesting that Elon added "unsupervised" to his comment. I wonder how you know V12 is trending well if you're not supervising FSD? :)
  24. A

    FSD Beta v11.x

The vast majority of trucks surprisingly don't have this problem. From the front of the truck to the steering wheel is not 9' which is how far the front of a Model Y is to the B-Pillar camera is. Check out any pick up truck and you'll see this and the same goes for most large truck cabs. I...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Another example of B-Pillar obstructed view and how dangerous it can be. FSD tried to pull out using Picture 1 B Pillar camera view without being able to see on coming cars so I had to disengage. I could see just fine- Picture 2. Picture 1- B Pillar Obstructed View Picture 2- Drivers View...

FSD V12 (end to end AI)

Perhaps but 11.4.4 has been such a large regression for me I'd welcome the learning curve.

This focus on finger prints is a lot about nothing IMO. Of course there will be fingerprints, so? (Note: I'm not saying you're fixated on fingerprints just many others)

    Launch is Imminent

My favorite reveal is the Model 3 where very little was known Tesla would not even confirm if the rear seats were heated. This went on for months here on the Forum with some people taking apart the rear seats. Tesla never replied to the endless questions from owners. Then on an early...

    My FSD 11.4.4 Review

Nice review thanks. Always great to see someone try FSD for the first time. Sometimes because I've been testing FSD for over 2 years I am overly critical. By the way you don't need to say "navigate" or "drive to" with a destination name. Just say "Starbucks" .

    FSD Beta v11.x

Does anyone now think that Elon's 2 week post regarding V12 was anything other than a joke to Omar? Unfortunately, some people took Elon seriously.
  32. A

    FSD Beta v11.x

Nope. Not until 11.4.4 (HW4) users also get the most recent production build is FSD in it's full stride. Good chance that will be after V12 is released to the 11.4.8 group.

    Thoughts on Pickup Truck Beds

Well reducing the overall size by 7-8" was pretty much a fail then as far as fitting into a suburban garage. What changed his mind since he stated that his discussion with Franz indicated they wouldn't be able to make any significant changes? Perhaps 3%. Do you have a source please.
  36. A

    Thoughts on Pickup Truck Beds

At the unveiling the CT was already less than 20 feet. My recollection of what Elon meant is different. Did he have another post specific to fitting in a suburban garage? Elon Musk says he wants to make a new Tesla truck smaller than the forthcoming Cybertruck Let's assume they reduced...

    Thoughts on Pickup Truck Beds

Do you have a source that Tesla's objective was to fit the CT in a small suburban garage? First time I've ever heard of this. Everything I've seen posted in the past couple of years is the CT will definitely not fit in the average garage.

    "Unboxed" Gen 3 manufacturing Process

I wouldn't call BS until we have a better understanding of how the improved access will leverage what Optimus can be used for. I suspect in time that will be significant since the unboxed approach appears to reduce the amount of time a worker has to get inside the vehicle. If that means...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I agree they have not stopped but when you roll out a dozen states in less than 2 years and than add no states in 2023 it feels like something has changed. I doubt the barriers just got more difficult on the next group of states. Too much of a coincidence. My guess is with the data they have...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Makes sense but the lack of any states added this year does seem surprising. Still at 12. Will be interesting to see what happens next year. https://www.tesla.com/support/insurance

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

You are right of course but Tesla initially was very bullish on insurance so why do we think they have stopped expanding the service?
  42. A

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

We're constantly hearing Tesla's are very expensive to repair. Good chance Tesla is experiencing that first hand as the insurer causing them to back off expanding to more states in the US.
  43. A

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

There seems to be a significant slow down in the expansion of Tesla insurance to additional states in the US. Why and how might this be affecting long term margins? Looked but didn't find an existing thread for this. Did I miss it?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agree, but what is significant is the continued rapid expansion of Tesla's supercharger locations. They are a key demand driver.

    FSD Beta v11.x

I didn't save the wide angle but the wide angle view would not have helped in this situation. Here is a wide angle view taken in my driveway which shows how limited the view really is. Frankly I was surprised how little the wide angle helps at crossing intersections. This is why B-pillar...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Another example of the B-pillar camera. Today was the first time I've driven this road. The front of the car is already into the edge of the crossing road and since there is no shoulder cannot creep any further. By leaning forward I was able to safely see but I think it's clear the B-pillar...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Agree. For those who disagree I suspect it's related to where they live and the road layout. I drove FSD for a week in Texas recently. What a difference compared to what I'm used to in greater Boston.
