We will be doing a watch party for the Cybertruck Delivery event today at 12PM noon PST. You can watch on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
HW4 likely has great camera and functions like TACC will work better over time. I doubt HW4 arrives anytime soon for 3/Y. Tesla likely has their hands full with HW4 in S/X/CT
The eccentric motion doesn't work starting from the horizontal. The blade must travel horizontally, or otherwise something super funky is being implemented.
I like it. No subtlety for the Cybertruck.
Tesla has had a hell of a lot of time to get this wiper right. I will be surprised if its a big issue with owners.
That's a good point. And another reason that the Mexico City location was refused. Austin will continue to expand vehicle production. The more manpower intensive parts manufacturer can be done at Monterey.
Musk probably wanted to follow that path in China too. Limiting expansion is probably...
You are a very special internet person.
Now explain how a continent that buys four million new cars a year at an average ASP under $25K can absorb the output of the new factory.
A super duper man of the world should be able to spot a deception designed to avoid Osborning 3/Y sales in the U.S...
self hypnosis
plus that CT is not referred to as next gen
but as I said, the order page still says exoskeleton, so there is hope
the order page also says six seats
I prefer my CT be exoskeleton with thick stainless steel
But I don't care enough to cancel based it being a more conventional...
Yes, 65% compared to a 50% average IIRC. Historical data. What else was there to buy? A Bolt? Tesla is the only volume EV producer and most people have a great experience.
But how many times am I rebuying a model Y? I do have a CT preorder, which I may take if it has a 400+ mile option and...
It's the desire for something new. According to S&P GM research Tesla owners who rebuy the brand do so in less than three years on average, which is by far an industry low.
Tesla buyers are the last group buying vehicles intending to drive a million miles. They want the latest and greatest...
I can buy a new 3 and Y this week in Chicago. That not infinite demand. It's a nice balance between production and current demand.
But 20 million cars with 10 models. Apparently no problemo. South America can absorb 18 million.
The model 3 is a great car, especially at the after tax credit...
The wealthy aren't buying a cheap Tesla. The subject at hand is south america absorbing the output of the new factory.
Tesla is lying about the target market to not Osborne the 3/Y. The 3 is already manufactured in surplus even with the $7500 tax credit.
The gen 3 has to be separated in price from the model 3. The Y and 3 are currently in supply/demand balance in the U.S. The only way the next gen can sell more cars is to be significantly under $35K.
Tesla is selling about 40K vehicles/month in the U.S. The market is no longer supply...
Not the same, that's why must keeps talking about haerdness.
But I've convinced myself that there is no exoskeleton, so not the 3mm first talked about either.
Ah, the racist ploy of a skilled debater
I've been to most south american countries. You haven't, but perhaps you have been to the Bahamas. The per capita income in the Bahamas is double that of the wealthiest countries in South America.
Tesla undoubtedly has a South America plan, but its not...
An analogy compares two items. You chose to compare a small wealthy archipelago to a largely poor and unstable continent.
Tesla first sold 500K vehicles in 2020. The Tesla infrastructure and demand present in North America and Europe in 2020 is what it took to sell half a million cars. When...
I think you guys are just mad that Troy pointed out Elon's lie about eliminating the ultrasonic sensors.
Although I don't think it was cost cutting, but rather supply.
Backup could possibly be designed in the motor. Plus each ebrake can be independent. From a clean sheet perspective hydraulic brakes would probably look less safe compared to an EV with ebrakes. But we know in reality that hydraulic is very safe.
"Fail On" is also a possibility with ebrakes...
Why am I not just buying a model 3? We know the current demand for Tesla in major markets by price point. In the U.S. supply and demand are currently in balance.
Demand at $25K may be 4X $35K. But the $25K vehicle needs to sell at $25K
You may notice that New Zealand and Hawaii have characteristics not present in South America. Count the superchargers and service centers needed to support sales.
Tesla will obviously expand into south america at some point. But they don't do that by building a factory thousands of miles away...
How will Tesla proceed if China does not let them build a less expensive car? I think a factory in eastern Europe. Slovakia builds some of the Land Rover models we get in the U.S.
If they can't build in China for the EU then a lower income EU member is perhaps the best choice.
Is Troy required...
The entire latin american new car market is 4 million cars. Troy is likely correct. The typical retail car buyer is truly affluent and wants an American SUV. How does Tesla profitably sell a small margin car over a vast geographic area and provide charging and service?
Troy's opinion is as good...
Yes, and do you build a factory at Monterey to put all your cars on a ship? Maybe, but that doesn't feel right. I think its more likely that the new model is for central and north america. Tesla continues to expand charging and service infrastructure south.
I would be interested in the total...
plus Tesla has the cash to keep building out capacity during a recession. Any company that can keep building will increase relative advantage against to those that must cut back.
I have a smart engineering acquaintance who says Cybertruck is not going to be exoskeleton.
What are the implications if true ? I say little because no one seems to care at the apparent failure of the structural pack in the Austin Y.
Well, NE Illinois and Texas does. Any place with high renewables will have times of low prices. Plus many people with home solar have low costs.
California, after enough solar is installed, will have low prices when it is sunny and not too hot.
I pay about 2 cents a mile for a Model Y. 3 cents for an R1T. I don't care about the difference. Even inefficient EVs are very efficient at reasonable electricity cost.
Tesla advantage in this area is using fewer cells so better margins.
Can Tesla buy a lithium mine in a stable country? Or would that mine be considered a strategic asset? I doubt BYD can buy a mineral mine in North America, but I'm not sure.
Also, an existing mine would have contracts that likely don't go away. It would really take game theory and a deep...
Controlling labor expense is far more critical than reducing factory space. That's why the original high density plan shown for Giga nevada never happened. Factory buildings are not expensive and the yearly depreciation that is expensed against each vehicle is almost trivial.
Labor availability...
You don't bet the farm on one customer. During the ramp of the model 3 Musk criticized Panasonic for not more aggressively ramping battery investment. But Panasonic execs made growth decisions based on what was good for their company and their personal financial well being. A typical supplier...
How did "Tesla f*cked Up"? The points Sasha makes have been obvious for several years. Tesla scouring the world for the stuff they need has also been happening since 2015. There are many aspects of Tesla's business that they don't control. Hence Part 1 of the presentation.
Tesla can't source enough inputs to rapidly build new factories. Musk points this out repeatedly in various was. Tesla is rate limited by the stuff they need arriving at the loading dock.
