    Cybertruck launch

I feel like if you're going to talk a big game about those kinds of things, you have to deliver. No one except Elon decided the glass needed to withstand steel balls, it was a spec requirement he dreamt up one day. But be that as it may if you're going to say it - you need to deliver, or if...

    Cybertruck launch

At what cost though? How much range does that completely irrelevant s**t cost actual end customers? When you have to stop to charge 50-100 miles earlier than you might otherwise have been able to will you be thinking "gee I sure am glad my car will deflect bullets and arrows"? It's completely...

    Cybertruck launch

Would've legitimately been better off not doing anything like that at all and just quietly hoping people would forget about that whole incident. I don't think customers would have been really phased that the window can't take a steel ball hitting it, but having Franz meekly throw a plushy...

    Cybertruck launch

"We'll start with trucking.. is it a good truck? Yes, it is a good one. I especially like the lockable load area in the back. it does truck things well". Video features zero trucking footage at all, no commentary he actually tried hauling or towing anything. He doesn't even go off road in...

    Cybertruck launch

No, but I don't think it's unreasonable for customers to believe something they are told. If they're told back in 2019 that it's going to pull X of load and travel for Y miles, and cost Z, then they can be forgiven for believing that. The alternative is what? That Tesla/Elon just makes these...

    Cybertruck launch

lol man, how blinkered do you have to be to actually believe this. Elon touted the glass as being able to resist a steel ball being thrown at it, and then it failed on both attempts to do so. Are you seriously suggesting that this was some kind of in joke or something? That it's actually a...

[UK] Is it worth buying a 2019 M3P in 2023?

Thanks :) This is what it looks like in action. It basically made the blind spot feature unusable for me at night.

Dunno if you meant to reply to anyone else but I've never expressed an opinion that the option shouldn't exist, rather that people suddenly finding double-tapping to be a huge issue because it's now a configurable option.
  11. Durzel

    [UK] 2023.44

It honestly had never occured to me for the years I've owned the car how double-tapping was such a burden, and now that it's been pointed out I've developed arthritus from doing it. Thanks Tesla for saving my brittle fingers.

[UK] Is it worth buying a 2019 M3P in 2023?

Probably a good idea. By that point Highland M3s will be out and prices will presumabky soften even more on older cars. As much as it pains me to say it - if I were in your shoes I'd be looking at 2021 on Made in China (MIC) cars, simply because of the many evolutionary changes. China cars...

PICG (Plug In Car Grant) on regular cars has been defunct since the middle of June last year I'm afraid. @shyboy NACS port doesn't exist in Europe, including the UK. Not sure how you would even charge it, except via the granny charger plugged into a travel adapter - which sounds like a pretty...

[UK] Is it worth buying a 2019 M3P in 2023?

That's not what he said is it :) It can be reasonably inferred that for the journey from Newcastle to London that he feels he would have to stop at the same place in both cars to avoid potentially running too low to get to the next available SC (I assume), i.e. that there isn't a huge amount of...

[UK] Is it worth buying a 2019 M3P in 2023?

2019/2020 M3P could be a decent buy, all depends on the price. The big issue is the lack of heat pump, I think, though that really depends on how far you're typically travelling I think. The P isn't the one to go for if you're obsessive about range anyway, but I'd be surprised if 2021-on M3Ps...

I've been waiting 1.5 months for a replacement door handle. I haven't been aggressively pushing it because the one I've got still works (a spring has gone so there's no soft close aspect to it now). Parts sourcing seems to be a real problem for Tesla, and I can't think of a worse one to go at...

Leave the drivers door open while you pull on it so that the car doesn't lock itself. Hope it works for you.

Is this frunk going to cost me?

I have the Mark 3.0 (or 3.1, not sure) version of the same frunk kit (currently removed due to multiple cinch motor failures). I'm pretty sure this is what has happened to you too - i.e. the cinch motor has failed shut and won't disengage. I would be surprised if the OEM latch mechanism has...

Would be a bit of a kick in the teeth if they add a front camera and it improves Vision parking significantly, since I presume it won’t be retrofittable. Especially annoying if you buy a Highland and it’s missing on the first run of cars.

It would probably have made more sense for Tesla to give people the option to swap TACC and AP between one and two pulls, so you don't lose anything.
  24. Durzel

    [UK] 2023.38

Yeah not sure what the fuss is about to be honest. If they were forcing everyone to have one pull AP then fair enough, but it sounds like it's a choice that you can completely ignore if you want?

    So… Highland is out…

Seeing M3P parts in the EPC pretty much confirms that it will be coming, and logically that it will happen at some point in 2024. Neither of those observations are revelatory. I agree with @GeorgeSymonds & @LiamPope that this article offers nothing of substance and only exists to capture...

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

Apropos of nothing but when I got taken to court I spoke to a solicitor who told me that I had a good case (don't they all?) but caveated that by saying that actually engaging her would cost more than the claim value, because in small claims legal costs aren't awarded, so it would become an...

That's why I said "and will presumably bring this out in the UK in due course". "Due course" can include law changes, like the one that permitted Blue Cruise. I have considerably more confidence that Drive Pilot or some other system will be operational on UK roads before FSD Beta is. We have...

    Tesla Vision

There is, as I understand it, room for Tesla to comply with UNECE revisions that would augment AP as we know it. As has been mentioned before Mercedes have L3 called "Drive Pilot" under limited conditions in Germany, and will presumably bring this out in the UK in due course. Ford have...

Worth remembering also that these are significant expenditures for most people. It's not trivial to just jump to another brand and often it will involve taking a considerable financial hit. Tesla Vision

I'd probably be happy enough if we had FSD Beta in its current form as it operates in the States. It isn't full A-B self driving, but it looks like it's a lot more purposeful than it is over here. What we've got doesn't amount to any more than lane-keeping, really, and that's not particulary...

The wacky world of Tesla leasing early termination pricing.

One could make an argument that the price of cars nowadays doesn't really mean anything at all, because the vast majority of people use finance. All it dictates is the monthlies. As to your question - I presume that car would be worth ~£35k?
  34. Durzel

    [UK] 2023.38

From the looks of that toggle - you don't. if you make AP be a single pull, then there's nothing to engage TACC with. The only thing I presume you could do, which would be pretty weird, would be to single pull to engage AP and then break out of it by turning the wheel, leaving TACC on. And...

The wacky world of Tesla leasing early termination pricing.

This is the inevitable consequence of the volume that everyone cheers, and Tesla's own price cuts. Tesla will low ball you because they're selling their new cars for less than when you bought yours. Other dealers will be wondering if they're going to take a £5k-£10k haircut after taking in...

    Tesla Vision

On a fundamental level I don't think people should have to be doing deep dives on basic convenience stuff. Car features as a service

I'm ambivalent about hardware with software unlocks, for the most part, because it's very common in IT. I use Cisco kit daily where you can spend additional £thousands easily on licences, with the hardware being unchanged before and after. I know people complain about Tesla fitting parts and...

    Tesla Vision

That is fair. I will say, however, that when I bought my car I had done a test drive and was blown away by AP (compared to what I had been driving previously) and Tesla told me that FSD would be "Coming later this year". If I had ordered when it said "Upcoming" instead I would have been more...

    Tesla Vision

As far as parking sensors on cars goes nowadays, the argument that one should have to have done a forum deep dive before buying to understand that Tesla's version of parking sensors just doesn't work is ludicrous. Parking sensors are so ubiquitous on everything else nowadays, and for some time...

Should Tesla fully refund FSD owners in UK

Tesla won't alter FSD Beta meaningfully to fit specific markets, they seem to expect those markets to loosen the regulations to a point at which FSD Beta "as is" can be offered to them. If that takes years, so be it. it's coincidentally why Europe hasn't had any intelligent matrix light...

Should Tesla fully refund FSD owners in UK

I'd actually have been a bit more satisfied if we had the FSD visualisations so I actually felt like we were moving towards something, but Elon can't even be arsed to give us that despite promising to do so in 2021. With AP going backwards - with various retrograde changes to comply with UNECE...

Should Tesla fully refund FSD owners in UK

My experience taking Tesla to court about FSD

True, but it was useful info regardless :) As I undertand it all new supercharger sites will be V4, and open to all by default. On the assumption that Tesla will seek to upgrade V3 stalls to V4 as well it seems logical to assume the network will become more and more open over time.
  46. Durzel

    So… Highland is out…

it seems clear that Tesla have no interest in developing any kind of parallel reduced-functionality FSD for markets outside of the US. Their plan of attack seems to be to simply deploy FSD "as is" in regions as and when they open up enough to allow it. If those regions don't relax their rules...

    So… Highland is out…

He has to look at the wheel and put his hand on top of it to indicate. He is also hyper aware of what he is doing, and planning to do. I'd argue that's perhaps a synthetic assessment of it. For sure there will be some situations where turning isn't a big deal, but I would personally argue...

Should Tesla fully refund FSD owners in UK

Whilst that is true, I would venture there is probably an argument to be made that a contractual term should expect to be delivered in the practical lifetime of a vehicle. Is it a reasonableness test, I think. Would a court think it is reasonable that Tesla sell a feature today, for full...

    iPhone 15 and Tesla

I've noticed that my car shows up with a key icon under Bluetooth on the phone, which suggests Tesla is integrating with Apple's Car Key system. iPhone 15 and Tesla

Yeah it didn't knacker the phone but NFC stopped working completely. People were taking their phones in to Apple stores and ultimately getting replacement phones since they couldn't be "fixed". One presumes the NFC failure was some kind of failsafe where it doesn't work again unless reset in...
