    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

If the M3P gets heavier then it becomes a 1 trick pony like the rest of the EVs in this performance category. If all you care about is daily driving and acceleration its fine, but if you actually like that the M3P handles well also then heavier is absolutely the wrong direction.

I'll take some of what you're smoking 😂 I'm guessing almost zero difference. Negligible at best.

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

I'm trying to get 315s to fit all around so have a teaser of my new upright (Scroll right to see clearance difference) Hoping to finish the small parts needed this week to install one side and then I'll get picture of how clearance changes with the tires I have on hand.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Yeah, that's the difference of tire + concrete. Its just an adjustment tool really. At the Packwood Pro in Dans car I ran 50/50 also cause it wasn't having any issues with exit oversteer. But on our local small lot or if it gets wet Ive been pushing it forward. Literally just as a means to bias...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Ive seen this a bunch where manufacturers will take really wild guesses on motion ratios and pick springs for published weights before production cars even exist. For example, when the Evo came to america, they could have gotten numbers from the Evo7 which is the same chassis (CT9A) but they...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Those are pretty close to the motion ratios I've been able to find as well. I'm working on my tesla uprights now and will take apart the car to measure directly soon. Your numbers above, you have to subtract unsprung weight from corner weight. NF only cares about the sprung mass. So assume...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Being up front is pretty nice. I got to park the RV one year in chiefs row and its great being able to jump around. Last year I was all the way in the back in the "big rig" rows past the practice course. Lots of room to but literally a mile from the action. Electric scooter or golf cart is...

FWIW, run your AC and stay cool. The slight change in batt charge will have orders of magnitude less effect compared to just being calm and in the right state of mind.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

In EVX or any other classes, if it doesn't say you can then you cant. In CAM/XA rules things open up with much more generic statements like drivetrain is unrestricted. As Im reading through the EVX and ST rules, neither specify that Toe arms can be changed but ST does have this rule This...

Turns out more throttle is faster 😅 Was pretty how well balanced through transitions the tesla is. My only complaint is not getting any power when the wheel is turned too much. Really cuts into ability to dig on tight bits.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

This happened to some very good friends and has become a very personal incident. Especially considering the personal involvement in it. So you'll find we're very sensitive right now and going through massive grief. Please be patient.

I havent looked into it but can racecapture pull info via can from tesla? Solo Storm works fine with race capture.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

There are some smaller clubs where you can get 10-15 runs in. And theres also the Medford cart track where they do the enduro events. Those I could certainly drain the battery enough I'd think about charging. But for sure a normal 5 run event, I probably wouldn't bother too much with it.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

We would definitely have to test the gen ahead of time and possibly do some research, but we needed the gen regardless so if it does work its a bonus. I'll probably do some running of the tesla this year while testing the billet uprights, so this was my plan for charging over night. We always...

I got a predator 9500 generator for home power outages (country life...). Could bring it and charge 220v 30amp. That's about 7% per hour. There's also the 110v power at the pole at the far end by the maintenance shop. Though at Tour its usually got a ton of people already plugged in.

XE - A derivative of XA/B (and now XS as well) - [scca class]

Its certainly possible software could negate or limit benefits but I think it would be the opposite. Software attempts to limit wheel spin of course and it can only do that by reducing power or applying a brake. Unlike traditional AWD that can shift the power around but still keep total power...

XE - A derivative of XA/B (and now XS as well) - [scca class]

My butt-dyno is pretty experienced dealing with good and bad diffs and from my very first runs in the Model 3 I instantly contributed all the weirdness in handling to lacks of diff. Or more specifically the electronics reaction to lack of diffs. When I first got the tesla its ability to handle...

XE - A derivative of XA/B (and now XS as well) - [scca class]

Hah, I think Id like to add another date to my red jacket at this point. But locally we'll play with the Tesla, potentially at the Pro so I dont roast another 3k in axle/diff.

XE - A derivative of XA/B (and now XS as well) - [scca class]

The reality is, adding a rear diff is probably one of the best things you can do after getting coilovers and camber. I also care because billet uprights would then have a place to work.

XE - A derivative of XA/B (and now XS as well) - [scca class]

Things EVX doesnt allow - Fender Rolling/pulling - Multiple arm replacement (toe arm as you said) - Diff changes - TC nannies mods (this still may not allow it) - Outboard geometry changes (things SM enjoys...)

XE - A derivative of XA/B (and now XS as well) - [scca class]

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

So this is the problem with EVX, that camber and toe arm put you in SM basically. Though really you can just run EVX and no one would care. I'll take em. That'll be a decent compromise for what we're doing.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Its the lower control arm that many will need to change to run a standard race spring. Then the toe and camber arms. But also many more things that are blocked in EVX. Fender Rolling - Not just rolled flat but pulled. You can get another 10-20mm of tire with a good pull without damaging the...

Write a letter, I did last week to try and get Tesla in XA. Too many things you cant do in EVX like rear lower control arm if you have an upper camber arm. Or any kind of body cosmetics that could be construed as aero. Can submit one here - http://crbscca.com/

2022 Solo Nats [2022 Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals]

Interesting single data point between Dan and I last weekend running EVX. Both on 19s with PS4S. His stock, mine with OTS MPP Sport Coilovers at factory suggested settings. I have about -1.3deg camber to his whatever stock had, -.2deg ish? My first run (dirty) stood as my quickest raw time...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I don't remember the numbers that were on the springs but I googled them and wasn't totally sure based on that so I measured. I've had to do it on some of my old springs cause old hyperco just etched the number at the ends and the sorta rust away.
  30. Dallas J

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

This sorta comes back to what Im thinking is a good use for bias to deal with that. If the rear slips too early on exit (oversteer) then shift forward and if it pushes on exit then shift rearward. The idea being that if say the front can take 60% and the rear can only take 50%, then 50:50...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

MPP has the sports spring kit, but of course they aren't stating what their rates are. I have a good idea of what the rates I received are from measuring the coils and have compared to the same process on other known hyperco and swift springs since I have something like 20+ springs sitting...

For sure, I'm not knocking the car, just looking critically at what it needs most. I design and sell suspension for my side business and been in Street Mod for almost the entire time I've autocrossed, its just in my nature to keep hunting for the next most important item. On the reduction in...

Got another weekend playing with the M3P. Bit of a mixed bag, but it doesn't completely suck 🙃 Me: National Champion Autocrosser, 19yrs in the game Mods: MPP Sport coilovers, 265 RE71 (1 year old, 10k street miles) MPP standard rates are great for the street but the car is still pretty...

I have seen the RT660 both do amazing things and tragically fail on the same car. It came down to weather and heat. I dont know if the RT660 needs to be as hot as the old Rival did but it definitely cant be cold. RE71 and A052 on the other hand will work at a cooler temp with the A052 greasing...

Master Thread: Model 3s on the Track / drag strip- Videos, Discussion, Setup, Etc

It takes a while before you get to the point of consistently being able to put down fliers from run 1. As you approach that point though there can be a lot of frustration making a run and never matching it. But if you can drive aggressive enough, often times you'll under think a section and...

    Regen braking reduced?

Could be, we noticed about 3months ago our M3P had a lot less initial hit on the regen brake that seemed to ramp up. Its hard to say if it did as much overall but it certainly took a bit of getting use to once you were adjusted to how it was.

Ohlins R&T landing in the USA as soon as May

For really cheap, you can custom order pretty much any ohlins custom valved from ohlins usa, you just need to email them. Of course thats not for Tesla yet, but of their available kits. What I was told is they basically have a program they enter in the specifics and it spits out the shim stack...

Ohlins R&T landing in the USA as soon as May

That would be nice if they came out with a standard spring for the rear for easy changing. But the rear really needs something to reduce some of the bending in the springs too. Guessing that wont be solved with a standard kit.

Ohlins R&T landing in the USA as soon as May

Im slightly jaded after Evo stuff was backwards of what was needed like rates were chosen didn't take into account motion ratios. Luckily it worked to just flip them front/rear and after 20 years, its still the same. And on latest mustang, Ohlins shipped coilovers with front rates double stock...

effect of wider tires (+ wider wheels) on steering feel and nimbleness

Forgestar wheels are pretty popular these days. I have F14s in 18x12 for the Evo (The real race wheels are Volk ZE40 though) and CT5V in 19x9 on the Tesla.

effect of wider tires (+ wider wheels) on steering feel and nimbleness

Wider is absolutely better if you're trying to win something. Current tires can take a pretty low tire/weight ratio and still come up to temp. Like Miatas running 275s (and some on 295s). My Evo is about 200lbs lighter per corner up front and on 315s. But if you're just a street car, it doesn't...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Definitely. I've been designing suspensions for about 15 years (through college and side business) and if there's anything I've learned its that its all a bag of compromises and tricks.
  45. Dallas J

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Agreed, with the lack of an LSD, too much bar is going to lift up on the inside reducing exit traction which is no good. My profile pic is my Evo which has such an aggressive rear diff the opposite is true. It doesn't really turn unless the tire is lifted and early exit puts all the power to...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I had a lot of issue with too much rear bias in cold/wet weather, which is the only time I've run the Tesla. Seems its real easy to over do exit throttle which spins up the inside then the TC (even full negative in track mode) brakes that wheel and shocks the outside. Didn't seem as much of an...

    UP vs MPP Coilover

Sorry, you're still not really right. Wheel total travel is only defined by the shock length. The only thing hookes law is stating is where spring would become "loose". Also, your 2:1 leverage ratio would have a 4:1 effect on spring rate (MR^2).

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

So we just had a dramatic change in our range on our 21' M3P with just over 9k miles. First noticed when wife drove 130miles (freeway down and back for work) starting at 90% and returned with an estimated 75miles. 310wh/mi in the 30mi graph but I didn't check Batt % before wife plugged in to...

    UP vs MPP Coilover

That only works if the spring is exactly zero preload at max travel. Like what would happen with a car using body length adjustment for ride height. You can do this with UPs coilovers since they are body length adjustable. With MPP, droop is a function of shock length (fixed) and ride height...
