    Dashcam Unavailable Check USB

My Tesla killed several thumb drives even ones using SD Cards specifically made for a lot of writing (last maybe 6 months). I finally just ended up just plugging in a USB hard drive. Has been flawless for over a year.

Almost 4 Years in, should any maintenance be done?

If Tesla does coil cleaning then it may be worth having them do it, essentially its $20 difference. And for tire rotations you need to have a pretty expensive investment into a heavy duty jack (due to car being so heavy), plus the pucks to lift it properly. For wiper blades, I think Tesla ones...

Almost 4 Years in, should any maintenance be done?

Thanks for the invoice. Here is a less private version if you want to delete the original: Interesting that they didnt do the caliper/pin clean/lube.

not covered by warranty? Look in the app, it has all invoices for all service visits. Would be good to know what they did.

Almost 4 Years in, should any maintenance be done?

Is there a guide somewhere on how to check the pins on brake calipers? And no I havent rotated tires yet since its AWD and wear seems to be very even across sides and front/back.

Almost 4 Years in, should any maintenance be done?

I tested break fluid, it passed, I check tire tread depth every few months, its also fine. I have 20k miles over nearly 4 years on Model Y LR. Roads arent salted here (Southern California). I replaced the cabin filters at 2 years and will do again once 4 years hits... I replaced the 12V battery...

should I not get the South Korean CCS1 combo adapter?

I agree with you, but I think in this case all the important sensing stuff is in the car and cabinet. Adapter is just a few inches of copper/aluminum wire. So if things go south either car or cabinet should detect it. For example if gauge of the wire used is not big enough that will translate to...

should I not get the South Korean CCS1 combo adapter?

From what I could tell they are exact clones of official ones. They do lock just like J1772 one does. And safety wise, Car/cabinet will react if things heat up too much, same thing for overcurrent/overvoltage issues. Personally Im not too worried about them.

PSA. Another melted NEMA 14-50 receptacle

Weird, when I plug into questionable NEMA 14-50R the car will give me over temperature warning and bumps down the charge level. Weird that its not doing it for you folks and instead melts the outlet. I have a Leviton and a Hubbell that I use interchangeably, both in metal enclosures. Both never...

should I not get the South Korean CCS1 combo adapter?

You may want to wait a bit. Some Chinese companies offered to send me some CSS adapters to test with my Model Y (for free, and I get to keep the adapters, they send them straight from China), I just finished my testing for them last week. All worked perfectly fine on Electrify America chargers...

    ICE vs Supercharger comparison table

Not sure if a tool like this exists elsewhere. I didnt do too much searching. I made this for personal use, but posting here in case it helps others. My situation. I have a Model Y and a PHEV. I can get 40Mpg on PHEV. I wanted to see at what Supercharger rates it would be more efficient to take...

Those of you that use SSDs for sentry mode. Does it get extremely hot?

Ive been using a 2.5inch WD Passport drive (platter drive) for a while and it had no issues. Didnt heat up too crazy (just got warm). I decided to switch to an SSD, and oh my gosh. Even just driving around with 'dashcam' mode on it gets really warm. When car is parked under the sun with sentry...

    Dashcam Unavailable Check USB

I have a mechanical (so basically infinite write cycles) WD Passport USB drive (made so that it can take vibrations from driving). Was working great for over a year. After updating to 2022.12.3.5 I got this issue. I took out the drive, did SMART check and checked every sector. Didnt find any...

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

I agree Back on the main topic, I ordered BRYANT 9450FR for ~$46 from Grainger https://www.grainger.com/product/BRYANT-50-A-49YY93 Seems like the best bang for the buck. According to OP its same quality as the $100 HUBBELL for half the price. I dont think we'll be seeing those close to OP's...

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

Well, its multi faceted. Not being to code means that if your house burns down its an excuse for insurance to not pay out. But this may actually not be a problem. His link says 40A, but if you click it it actually says rated for 50A. As long as that thing will accomodate 6AWG wire (which it...

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

Its rated for 40A, 14-50 is rated for 50A. Tesla Gen 2 mobile connector pulls only 32Amps, so it would 'work' but it would not be to code and would be a fire hazard if someone in the future (perhaps next house owner) plugs in something that actually pulls over 40 Amps (by 80% rule of NEC any...

I am currently (and for the last 2 years or so) have been using LEVITON cheapo Home Depot one with 32A draw from mobile adapter on MY. Works fine most of the time. High battery degradation from brand new MYP.

Isnt it still a guessometer? While its better than nothing it does mean that if one number is wrong then whole thing is wrong and in some cases you could never know you are looking at bad data.

What goes into the trip kwh usage calculation?

Just did a 600 mile trip in LR MY. Trip computer states the following: 603 miles | 183 kWh | 302 Wh/mi I left the trip at 100% charge (74Kw in the pack). I supercharged during the trip for total of 125Kw. I arrived back with 7% battery. This means that I have put in total of 199Kw. Taking out...

Lets talk mud flaps, spot welded nuts and loose bolts (also why every Model Y owner needs mud flaps)

Got about 1500 miles with this setup. Its working great. In my previous post I mentioned water can make it past the mud flaps by simply overwhelming them during rain, but a quick wipe and its like new. Anything that makes it back there glances right off the PPF.

Lets talk mud flaps, spot welded nuts and loose bolts (also why every Model Y owner needs mud flaps)

Update 1 month after original post. Mud flaps are holding up well. Ive driven about 1000 miles so far with them. I am keeping track of efficiency and it is still the same watt/mile as it was pre mud flaps. Ive also had a chance to drive in rain. I am definitely seeing some road water make it...

Lets talk mud flaps, spot welded nuts and loose bolts (also why every Model Y owner needs mud flaps)

Quick update from the original post. I have now had 2 weeks of driving with my flaps (Abstract Ocean scoopy ones). Definitely see them stopping stuff. They arent collecting anything but I do see occasional sand splatter on the inside of the scoop (falls off on its own after driving a bit), and...

Lets talk about laminated glass retrofit for 2020 Model Y (all you need to know)

I should add that Tempered glass is ~$230 from Tesla, Laminated glass is ~$280 from Tesla. If you have Tesla do it, they will most likely not install laminated if your car originally came with tempered since their system says the yare not interchangeable. But they charge about $60 for labor...

Lets talk about laminated glass retrofit for 2020 Model Y (all you need to know)

For those that dont want the details. Can you do the retrofit? Yes. Should you? Probably not. Now for the details: Here is the laminated (2 sheets of glass that are installed on 2021 and newer model Y's in the front) on the bottom and the tempered glass on top of it - Yes, the shape is a...

Has anyone successfully retrofit laminated side glass to Model Y?

cant edit original post (been over 60 minutes), but doing some more research found this article on someone doing Model 3, and they state its a direct fit: Primary Tesla - Laminated Glass Retrofit here is the quote in case something happens to the link. keep in mind this is for Model 3 not Y...

Has anyone successfully retrofit laminated side glass to Model Y?

I watched this video of the comparison. And the glass looks the same shape as far as anchor points. Has anyone replaced door windows? How much did it run you?

Thanks for the link. For anyone else looking. In that video they show an invoice, states: $260 for laminated double pane and $225 for tempered single pane window (directly from Tesla). Prices not too bad, in line with other cars. I did see different attachment points at the bottom, BUT they...

Has anyone replaced door windows? How much did it run you?

Something got stuck in the window seal, scratched the window as it rolled down (front passenger). Contacted a few glass shops around everyone refusing to try and buff out scratch out of tempered glass. Said I need to replace the glass. So curious how much that would run me? I have the 2020...

    2021.4.18.2 on new MY

    Planning a Trip

Ive used A better Route Planner for several 1000+ mile trips and it works great. It even allows you to specify how much extra weight you will have in the car. Fine tune how long you want to stay (like if you rather charge longer but fewer times) etc... highly recommend it.

    2021.4.18.2 on new MY

My concern is that even if it is confirmed that this update doesnt mess with any of that, the code could be there, and potentially enabled at a later date (without another update). is it confirmed that Auto High beams is a requirement after this update even on with radar cars?

Thoughts on carrying a tire patch kit instead of

So I know that using slime stuff is bad idea due to the sensors in the wheel. Even the Fix-A-Flat sold by Tesla says that TPMS has to be replaced if used. And I dont want to buy a spare to carry around. I think a small patch kit is a perfect balance, it may take a while to get it patched, but...

Turn Signal Light Fault - Service Is Required To Restore Functionality

I apologize for probably the most basic of question. But I got a Y, and need new tires soon. App charge limit percentages are off?

This has happened before and ended up fixing itself later. But I cant seem to be able to set the charge limit to 100%, going all the way to the max sets it to 98%. Do you use Electrify America as a Tesla owner?

Do you use Electrify America as a Tesla owner?

Over here in California we got Superchargers at 36c/kw, which isnt cheap, but level 2 chargers are around 20c/kw. We got the first Electrify America station open near me, never seen one in person before, and its 46c/kw. And from what I understand with $500 adapter I can get 50kwh charge rate on...

Creaking sounds when closing liftgate, and strange buzzing sound when first starting to drive.

You clearly saw me refer to it as rear liftgate multiple times. I mistyped it once. No need to latch onto that. You knew what I meant. I cant go back and edit it as edit option goes away after some time.
