Car dead, need help. Gurus, please help read errors

Never heard of anyone keeping core from Tesla. Presumably Tesla use as rebuild. LDU parts definitely can be sold in aftermarket. There are custom EV builds based on LDU hence salvaged LDU has fair bit of demand. Mostly supplied by salvage car currently.

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

BTW, most people's guess is no firmware change with coolant delete and QCC mentions nothing on their aftermarket part. Any firmware update indicator on invoice? Think you can check with SC to confirm?

Car dead, need help. Gurus, please help read errors

I would align. Removed and installed my LDU and have misalignment tire wear patterns after (tire was nearly done so I didn't alignment and opted to monitor for rebuild coolant leaks after, ended up having to pull again) . Subframe has 4 bolts to body and a little play. Axles need to be removed...

Car dead, need help. Gurus, please help read errors

Thanks for the pic. Glad to see -U says coolant delete on the sticker. Very helpful confirmation as these are just statingvto be deployed. Your LDU is T19 which means initially manufactured in 2019. R1 means remanufactured once.

Can post the quote? reman LDU prices seems to have dropped slightly compared to the past.

Starting to see 2015s with BMS_u029 and 018

Best data is at Tesla but nothing revealed. Can try a logical mind experiment : If failure rates are very low, high motivation to publish info to aid sales. If failure rates aren't insignificant and no low cost repair solution, quite natural to not share data. Alternative method is to do design...

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Rev U released recently so don't know how much older rev inventory in the logistics pipeline. It will say on your quote. Might want to confirm with SC personnel if you want Rev U. Might even ask if that is the coolant delete revision (they might not know?) Don't know if they are willing to take...

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Yes, lots of chatter on this with those that have rebuilt the LDU. Here is a post, a bunch posts before and after https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/7922911/ The coolant circuit for rotor has a 5mm outlet restriction and very low pressure so amount of flow and therefore heat removed is...

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

I heard QCC's first batch of parts are due in in Jan 24. Need one myself. Tesla's parts catalog briefly listed their coolant delete part a few months back. Inquired availability. Tesla said no and the part has since disappeared from catalog. Pretty simple part. We can hope for availability in...

Starting to see 2015s with BMS_u029 and 018

I believe Tesla made 3 known improvements that likely had an effect. But still other failure modes exists. Tesla deploys revision changes mid year so probably can't just go by year alone. Nor do they publish a table on when these revisions are deployed. 1. Fuse Cover moved to Bottom (2016+?)...

Are you still on the original battery pack with your 2012-2015 Model S?

One might naturally "think" a new pack in 18 (5 years old) would be okay for the next 5ish years. But there are a lot of variables and nearly no visibility to the real reliability stats of the entire fleet and various revisions. Higher moisture exposure situations likely shorten longevity. You...

The punctured coolant hose that clips into module are marked TGFS >PA9T/PA12 TFS9< The fitting head with the yellow clip marked PA66. Other markings are manufacturing time stamp down to the minute! PA9T, PA12, PA66 are all various types of plastic polymer TGFS might be manufacturer (...

Toolbox 3 setting up computer before starting subscription

Yes the premium and I'll call it the "nearly disposable" segment is def there. German brands have lived on it for years. Audi/BMW/Merc all do like 2M+ worldwide in this segment. 100k mile owner (in US, EU even lower) buying the car at 20% original price + DIY is the main downstream ownership...

Toolbox 3 setting up computer before starting subscription

I asked and checked. No firmware change. Simple manifold replace eliminating coolant flow to center of rotor and no more leak prone seal. QC Charge developed aftermarket part is plug and play. But we also don’t really know the longevity of the hotter running rotor. Some discussion on this and...

Toolbox 3 setting up computer before starting subscription

I based $1k on teslas own labor charge quotes on LDU replacements (~$600) suggesting 3 hour labor. This is quite time efficient I must say. SCs with lifts and hydraulic scissor tables makes this quick. LDU + subframe is removed, LDU then removed from subframe. Coolant delete manifold is small...

Toolbox 3 setting up computer before starting subscription

Yes. Rev U coolant delete LDUs are being deployed. It’s a simple manifold part change. If Tesla HQ allowed SCs to replace this simple manifold on drive unit that hasn’t failed as customer desired preventive maintenance. It’s $1k vs $7k drive unit replacement. Just like buying an engine to...

Condensation Failure Inside Battery Pack (BMS_F107 code)

Yes. Quite an interesting idea. Having seen the condensation moisture failure, I do wonder how much periodic service will benefit after corrosion has started. I suppose will slow it down. Don’t really know wo lots of trials and stats.

    1,900,000km Model S

This car has been featured before as one might expect. https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=42372#p42372 Battery failure has a significant time based component ( cell wear and moisture ingress ) so high mileage cars gets the most out of the battery. Simple division isn’t average...

    Refurbishing 2015 85kWh Pack - Confirm Parts

Seems unlikely anyone other than Tesla can publish a guide due to deadly hv danger and liability :( All traditional manufacturer provide guide (and parts) for their ev pack disassembly. But Tesla does not. Until then, probably no well organized source will exist unfortunately.

Toolbox 3 setting up computer before starting subscription

Tesla is quite disabling of DIY and aftermarket efforts in general on both HV battery and drive units. No disassembly info (like other traditional car manufacturer's EVs) or majority of the parts significantly hampers efforts. Its mostly salvaged parts or aftermarket alternatives (risky...

Condensation Failure Inside Battery Pack (BMS_F107 code)

Just a final update on what we know about battery pack breather / air equalization evolution. Once again, HV pack is deadly dangerous. Do not attempt to disassemble it without expertise knowledge of the pack and HV safety. It can kill you as live HV danger points are invisible and water...

Recently helped @mr_hyde to setup toolbox 3 to diag a 2014 MS with the most economical 1 day subscription. Model S suspect HV battery issue

Corking is just a software mapping to limit battery to lower capacity than it has. Just limiting how much capacity from every module can be used rather than physically disconnecting modules. battery is monitoring for internal failures which you unfortunately have and therefore disabled. Recell...

Model S suspect HV battery issue

$5k would be the absolute minimum. Many charge 2x more without knowing what is found on the inside after extensive labor to open and reseal the battery pack. Most rebuilder will assume the worst and charge more including Tesla SC which values your pack least at ~$0 core. You also have the...

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

One note is the rotor's gearbox seal is handling similar surface speed as the coolant seal. Is a simple NBR V lipped seal and lubricated by ATF and keep ATF out of the motor chamber. Seems to work pretty well. However, this seal is dealing with a non flooded gearbox chamber and without any...

    Goodbye all; Good riddance Tesla

Ditto, probably getting rid of my 2013 MS85 sometime next year and never touching another Tesla again after studying how its made (battery pack, drive unit, water/moisture control) Been analyzing sources of disappointment. Need Help: Rear Drive Unit Replacement $6k

Interesting what you got last month was a Reman Rev T according to PN which I'm pretty sure still runs coolant through the rotor. Rev U (no coolant through the rotor) is in catalog now but I guess takes a few months to cycle through logistics. Probably desirable to get Rev U if one believes...

I presume you have a large drive unit which has a common coolant leak failure and downstream damages from the leaked coolant. DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

3rd party repair shops all seems to be using triple lipped PTFE seal and results seems to be good. Seen them show brief videos of shaft repair with flame spray metal and chrome plating repair. DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

Shared the coolant bypass manifold pic in openinverter. A good mod suggestion for modding existing coolant manifold is - remove the rotor tube - fit a custom cap into the coolant seal bore to seal off the chamber. Proper shape to clear the rotor shaft and leave enough gap for coolant to flow...

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

yeah, was thinking similar after my post... I do remove the plastic manifold inlet when pulling and installing the LDU into the subframe. Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

There are good 3rd party rebuilders but usually involved shipping car if you are in their locale. For example, QC Charge (QCC) in San Diego in US. Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

Also recently encountered an unexpectated data. Original non reman LDU from 2014 EU car leaked and shaft exhibited severe wear with pitting under the seal. Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

I've been collecting stats on this and both long lasting and high failure rate stats exist. Did my best to untangle why the 2 different patterns. Here is my analysis from collecting data from multiple LDUs The shaft surface that mates to the seal of the newly manufactured LDU is new and...
