Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Unless the gas station is really close to where you live, when filling the tires at the gas station they will be warm and the pressure will not be correct. Pressure adjustment should always been done cold, first thing in the morning before you have driven one mile slowly.

Tesla haters are going to do that regardless of which Tesla you purchase. However, in over ten years of Tesla ownership, I've only had one vandal incident--and my Tesla lives outside. Someone smashed the driver's side window.

At a dealership, a market adjustment is on top of "dealer additions". The Tesla $20K includes extras that at least half would likely purchase anyway. If you add up the value of what's included, it's almost all of what might be termed "dealer additions", many of which are useful unlike pin...

With oxygen tight butyl rubber, it's impervious to oxygen. There might be some migration, but it would take a very long time (unless the butyl liner is damaged from mounting). Airplanes use it for two reasons. First is fire, nitrogen doesn't support combustion, second is ice. If the air is not...

Nitrogen filled tires are very close to a scam. Dry air is no different. If nitrogen inflation is free it does no harm, but don't think that it makes any difference.

I read into it that you will not have to pay the $12,000 to activate it, which makes the $20K not that much of an extra charge.

From 2013 to 2015 you couldn't use auto wipers, pushing the button worked fine. Then they worked pretty much perfectly until a couple of releases ago. The most common issue is they do one wipe early in the morning, occasionally they do a few wipes, but it's not often. Once I had them start in...

Agreed, but sometimes the local power grid goes down. Of course, gas cars can't get gas then either, but it's typically only a local outage so they can drive 50 miles or so and get gas. For EVs it can make you wait until the grid is restored because the distance vary from 100 to 200 miles...

Copper can corrode if subject to chemicals or pollution. Because the wire will be insulated, this shouldn't be an issue. I believe they are thinking of really thin copper wire, the wire in the CT will be thinner but not fine.

The inspection will likely be similar to state car inspections. Costly and not much value. Example: If there are four chargers and only one is working, that's still counts as up.

I'd rather wait until they have made 3K or more so the early items they didn't find out about in their testing are resolved. A bit over 3K was the number when I got the 2013 and it had most of the early improvements (such as the B battery) other than the defroster being passenger centric and the...

I'd liike to know how the tent deploys with the range extender. They are products that really should go together because some camping is done where there is no electricity available (e.g. the beach shown in the photo).

We have Leaf too. The bird's eye camera is useless. The Tesla's backup camera is far more useful in parking. I've never used parking assistance because the Tesla is so easy to park.

Isn't it part of the battery management system for the LV battery? Also having a separate LV battery means that the power steering and brakes will work should the main pack shut down. The first Roadsters did not have an LV battery, but that was soon changed.

I have a car with bird's eye view. Pretty much unusable. On the two Teslas I've had I've always used the rear camera. It has worked great. I tell people that the Tesla is the easiest car to park. (Might be the second easiest if you also consider the DS-21).

Any new vehicle will have ramp issues. I think the jury is out on whether the stamped steel can provide more crash protection. It does certainly provide more protection against annoying dents. Also in many areas larger vehicles have issues with narrow roads and parking. Ideally the stainless...

Agreed, but the vertical distance in the bed (from the current centre of gravity) is much smaller than the horizontal distance from the centre of the vehicle if the pack was in the under-the-bed compartment. (I'm thinking about ice days).

But it takes a month to get a Service Centre appointment in my area. So this is definitely "let's go camping next week" kind of thing. Also it's similar to deciding to go on a trip in a gas car. "Do I really want to spend the $300 on gas?".
  42. jerry33

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I certainly hope that's true. On my most frequent trip, the five Superchargers were opened up in late 2014 (IIRC or maybe early 2015). One has been added since, and one has been upgraded (both in the past six months and both very welcome). To get to fifty miles between SCs, seven additional...

  46. jerry33

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The can't see out the back is just silly. You can't see out the back of an X (at least the ones 2020+) as the factory tinting is too dark. I haven't used the rear view mirror since the 2013 S because the rear camera is so much better and has a much wider view than the silly mirror.
  47. jerry33

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed, but based on the current rate, it will be many years before that happens in the Supercharger desert.
  48. jerry33

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed. But 500 miles without stopping is not the issue. The issues are that when there is 150-200 miles between SCs and the power is out in the area, you won't be able to make it to the next one L2s are few and far between in rural areas (This has actually happened to me three times). Also if...
