Tesla should offer Range Extenders for Rental

Then why did the early Model S have swappable batteries?

    Disable FSD

You really have to understand what AI is and how it is used in the car. For the AI in the car, it isn't a possibility.

    Cybertruck as mobile powerwall

If you power your house, you must have the ability to disconnect from the grid. You must have a transfer switch. And if you aren't going to power your entire house, then you need to have a panel that breaks out the loads that you are going to power. It's NEVER just a hook it up and it works...

Tesla should offer Range Extenders for Rental

May be, but the main audience of the battery are those who are expecting to haul things, not extend the range of the base vehicle. I was towing my boat last year down to Florida. (first trip of any distance) My Model Y range got cut to 70 miles! Since Superchargers were every 50 miles, I was...

Tesla should offer Range Extenders for Rental

Tesla moved away from battery swapping years ago. Too many issues.

Was the 4680 Model Y a Cybertruck Testbed?

Not really sure why this would be surprising, since basically EVERYTHING Tesla is doing is built on the last vehicle. Ford, GM, Stellantis are the same, except theirs is built upon 1950s vehicles. (Tesla is learning fresh)
  8. E

Ease of Entry and Exit from Vehicle

It isn't. I was in the new Orlando store Friday and noticed that (I'm 6ft) with just a slight lift on my toes, I could see across the top of the CyberTruck. The Model Y was a few inches below that. (I don't know the current lift status) The floor is indeed higher, but the doors weren't open...

Is the delay in building the Mexican factory due to graft?

Don't even think of comparing China and Mexico. One is a country that dictates what is going to be done, the other is a country too often run by drug lords with a minimally effective government.

Is FSD based solely on cameras input?

Yea, cars and jets are two very different situations. With jets, they are looking at things that cannot be seen, things that may be 100 miles away. If it is 100 ft away in a jet, something has gone wrong a LONG time ago. Oh and when the radar reports velocity, if I'm mistaken, it reports the...

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

Because you are worrying about your battery so much. You seem to feel that the range of the car makes a big difference. I drove a Leaf with 88 mile range. In many instances, I didn't have the ability to get it from point A to point B. There were trips where I was truly anticipating having to...

Sign of the times in Phoenix

You are missing a big feature of Tesla. You can see how busy the Supercharger are before you get there. And the moral of the hurricane story is to get the heck out early or suffer the consequences! Wait for the masses and you are screwed, period.

Is FSD based solely on cameras input?

This is always a comment that just floors me. How can FSD function with just cameras? How are you able to see with just two eyes? Some people only have one eye. Some people barely can see the road. Some people are color blind. But they all drive. So let me ask you this, let me put a detailed...

Cant Make Head and Tail of: Aftermarket Tow Hitch/Wiring Options for HW 4.0 Cars

As I've been alluding to all this time, ask the right question. What features are you really want while towing? I've already said that Traffic Aware Cruise Control works.

Mobile Emergency Charger using a spare Tesla 24v module - SUCCESS

Not my question. The question is more along the lines of how many kW are in the pack and then how long will that end up taking to deplete. Or more along the lines of, yes, this can be done. No it's no really useful. 120V 15A plugs are quite easy to find.
  18. E

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

In this concept, that's not correct. In battery talk, "stored" is extended period of not being used, that period being months. They have now collected more data on specific batteries. (Of which they have more than ANYONE else). and have decided in some instances that there may be better...

Yes, let's get back to the point. Reading your description above, you indicate that you will NOT be using FSD. Just Enhanced Autopilot or maybe basic Autopilot.

Sign of the times in Phoenix

Assuming that you don't sit in traffic for 12 hours. And it's not as if you don't past 34 Superchargers on the way up I-95 going to Kingsland FL. Sure, I know I-95 is probably the last route that you'd take. But there's 12+ Superchargers going up through the middle of the state to I-75 to GA...

Tesla and Enterprise America do have solar powered sites. A press release from EA many months ago indicated that they were using Tesla Powerwalls to do so.

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

I don't think that there is much in the power transmission path that is soldered. Solder can't handle the heat and current. Most of it is mechanical mating and welding.
  26. E

Is the delay in building the Mexican factory due to graft?

Probably not. None of the US or German factories went in that quickly. And the Germans were also bringing up all sorts of things from nowhere.

    Tire Thread

I believe that number is about 1.5 mm, the height to Lincolns head on a penny. It's starting to get cooler, take it by a tire store and get them to check the pressure (probably need to add some air) and tread depth.

It's not a trickle charge. Both of my cars drive more than 15 miles per day and we alternate charging on a single 120V 15A plug. In 12 hours, you can get 60 miles.

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

Why you have given in completely to the FUD that's out there. Let's start with your degradation information. sure, doing this vs doing that may change the degradation, but by how much? It's really not that much and over the life of the battery, it's a lot less than people think. And no matter...

Cant Make Head and Tail of: Aftermarket Tow Hitch/Wiring Options for HW 4.0 Cars

uh, no? Trailer lights are brake, turn, reverse and emergency. Hooking to 12V just leaves them all on. But again, FSD gets pissed off with many bike racks, nothing attached to the power.

  34. E

Cant Make Head and Tail of: Aftermarket Tow Hitch/Wiring Options for HW 4.0 Cars

To turn FSD back on, you go in and turn trailer mode off, I think that it is about 3-4 clicks to do. I am pretty sure that you can't enable when a trailer is attached. As other have said, it's not really safe to do. FSD just doesn't understand the dynamics of towing. As has been said, something...

But it's okay to queue up at a gas station and then their tanks run dry before you are able to fill up? Miami to Ft Myers is an easy 150 mile trip, no need to fill up. In most places it's pretty hard to go 50 miles without passing chargers, and only a few where you can go a hundred miles...
  37. E

Is FSD based solely on cameras input?

That's too easy. You are seeing raw data, probably not even at the resolution of the cameras. Tesla shows you the cameras more as a courtesy than anything else. What you don't see is the background processing. 40 years ago in college I ran a routine that would take an out of focus picture and...

    Minor Phantom Braking Observation

"profit per car" was my wording. And indeed, you pretty well showed it, yes, over the last year, you've seen the overall profits decline because they decreased the margins on the cars. But here you go https://www.visualcapitalist.com/charted-teslas-unrivaled-profit-margins/ I think that says...

power steering failed within 3 months.

All models of all cars have problems. It's not just a Tesla thing. How did you drive a car without steering? Or maybe it was just a little tougher? Did they fix your power steering? How was the service department once you got there? Do you have your car up for sale yet? I can ABSOLUTELY...

Cant Make Head and Tail of: Aftermarket Tow Hitch/Wiring Options for HW 4.0 Cars

I never said reverse. FSD watches for cars behind you when you are going forward.
  44. E

    Launch is Imminent

Honestly, production and demand are so separated with the traditional dealership model, that demand is relatively bogus. Customers don't order cars, dealers order cars. And the timeline between dealerships ordering them and they hitting the lot is probably 6-12+ months. There could easily be...

2021 MY max current on factory installed tow harness

Fuses are designed to protect the circuit, but they aren't guaranteed to. I didn't know that there was even a fuse in the harness. Everything else in the car is monitored and controlled by MOSFETs. So how much is it going to cost you?

    MS 2021+ refresh Cabin Filter

  48. E

Cant Make Head and Tail of: Aftermarket Tow Hitch/Wiring Options for HW 4.0 Cars

I don't think that lane centering was there, just cruise control. You have to remember that when a trailer is connected, vision is restricted. And even bike racks can cause the cars to sound alarms because of obstructed cameras. And even if you have an off-brand solution, the rear camera can get...
