    SpaceX F9 - IM-1 Nova-C Lander - LC-39A

According to this Ars article, they had to patch in sensors from one of the payloads to use for the craft to land, as some of its failed. Prety cool and gutsy save!

Wiki Super Heavy/Starship - General Development Discussion

The tone of that article and the comments by the FAA folks sound like they and SpaceX have a good working relationship and are working towards common goals... nice to see given the concern regarding approval times, etc...

    Blue Origin - New Glenn

Looks like they are also in process of building a second rocket... the image filename is "pathfinders", but taken from a paywalled NYT article, so unsure if it's really a pathfinder as opposed to production hardware:

Unsure... Jeffrey didn't tag him in his IG post...

And while it is only a non-functional pathfinder, they took opportunity to snap a cool pic:

Are those tiles being attached with pins or glued on? They don't seem to be visible in that pic... Are they attached in individual sets for each tile and that's why they aren't visible? We've seen pins attached ahead of tiles before:

Yeah, I should have been clearer to say trip to the bird and back. If the lower orbit has no significant downsides, than why not? A couple of ms when they are targeting <30ms latency helps...

    SpaceX Internet Satellite Network: Starlink

Yeah, videos certainly indicate it's audible from land... I wonder how loud that is and for what distance. I also wonder if there's any room to tweak when they break the sound barrier, although that's probably payload dependent...

Interesting... they say: The sats being 125 miles closer to earth only shaves 1.3ms of the RTT... I guess every little bit helps. Overall signal strength improvement will help too...

SpaceX vs. Everyone - ULA, NG, Boeing, Lockheed, etc.

In addition to the technical aspects being discussed here in merging the two companies, it will be interesting to see what the organizational effects will be. B.O. strikes me as an organization that wants to be agile and innovative (in both product and process), but has thus far struggled with...

FSD V12 (end to end AI)

Context for this discussion: I single stack for both introduced a year ago in v11.x: And I assumed v12 was based on that but there's some thought that v12 may have been a parallel effort that switches back to dual stack in some scenarios.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

(if there's a preferable thread for this, we should probably move it...) by "toggles", do you mean: - It switches stacks mid-trip as it moves into different geographic areas? - It selects a stack for an entire trip as entered into nav? Do you have a reference to the current FSD...

And additionally, the "stack" still has upper level components feeding it, such as cameras, accelerometers, steering angle data, etc... and then lower level cotrol layers like, acceleration profile calculation, brake application, steering control... The NN layer(s) are sandwichecd in the middle...

Agreed. And just as I think the hub-bub about Tesla "recalls" for fixing a font are annoying, I prefer to not pile on other manufacturers for little stuff like this. Besides, they give us enough serious fodder that it's not like we are without anything to razz them for...

SpaceX Starship - IFT-3 - Starbase TX - Launch Thread

I suspect they are taking advantage of time they know they have for addressing the stuff they ID'd in the last flight in the mishap report, and their estimate of the time it will take the FAA to issue the launch license, to work on GSE/other stuff. The GSE/OLM stuff all worked well enough for...

    SpaceX F9 - IM-1 Nova-C Lander - LC-39A

Yeah, I'm sure that explains part of it.... not to mention that there are more green-sensitive cones in our retinas, which matches the fact that green makes up the majority of white light... so nearby on the spectrum "being a shade of green" I'd argue is a plausible explanation....

True for some values of "ok". Is climate change an existential threat in the next 10-20 years? Probably not... hence from the standpoint of humanity's survival, it will be "ok". Unfortunately, this is often true. Especially if the change of approach requires some sacrifice. The other approach that avoids you being labeled as an "extremist" is to encourage change by making it convienent/attractive/economically advantageous to do so. This is the approach Elon is largely...

Right... my point is that the way he sees it in the big picture is that "the sky is falling" mantra in the short term isn't likely true... he recognizes that chicken little simply makes more opponents. But in the long term, he sees it as a risk for sure... he hasn't decided that there's no...

As another reference point: 5 bar is about 90 PSI. Your home water pressure is typically around half of that. So, imagine double what garden hose can deliver for pressure (not volume, which is far greater for a rocket engine) (and "botted"... great verbing)
