    Charging questions

Your car charges two ways: 1. Level 1 (120V AC home wiring) and Level 2 (240V AC home and commercial wiring) are home and business connections. These AC currents go into the car via a "connector" that is often improperly called a "charger." The AC charger is built into the car, converts the AC...

My Tesla Model3 SR+ LFP will not charge!

Get one of these to confirm your 120V outlet is properly wired. If your ground is not present, the Tesla mobile connector will not function. Klein Tools RT210 Outlet Tester, Receptacle Tester for GFCI / Standard North American AC Electrical Outlets, Detects Common Wiring Problems...

    6-50 question

Yes; the Tesla wall connectors will be set by the user or electrician (either physically or via software, depending on the generation) to the max current they should draw. If you dial the connector to 40 Amps, your 50 Amp breaker and wiring will be GTG.

Tesla + J1772 sharing same circuit?

I have two Tesla 2nd Gen HPWCs that share a single 60A breaker and are connected via the communication cable. They are each manually restricted to 48 Amps via the internal physical dial. One charges my wife's TM3 AWD. The other is for my J1772 MINI SE. Alone, the TM3 draws up to 48 Amps...

Can Tesla mobile charger gen 2 be used with j1772?

I have the linked Lectron adapter and use it with my MINI SE, sharing my 60 Amp breaker with two Gen 2 HPWCs that are connected with the communication cable, so that I can charge the SE and my wife's TM3 simultaneously. The Tesla nozzle plugs into the Lectron adapter and is held by a small...

Also, if you get the wall connector, you can use it with an adapter for J1772 cars. I have two Gen 2 wall connectors intelligently sharing a 60 Amp breaker, one for my wife's TM3 AWD and the other for my MINI SE, using this adapter...

    Home charging help

I don't know your source for the "lower Amperage is more efficient" statement, but the opposite is true, because of the car's 400 Watt hotel load. The higher the power going into the car, proportionally more power goes to charging the battery, so it charges proportionally faster and has less...

Help Me Decide Between Long Range and Performance

When I totaled my wife's TM3 AWD (I hit a curb and sufficiently gooned the suspension for my insurance to total it), we were torn between replacing it or upgrading to the Performance. In the end, we got another AWD with stock aero wheels and: Bought a new set of 19" aftermarket rims and high...

Charging Questions for Possible M3SR[+] Owner.

Rather than the Dryer Buddy, I'd recommend spending the $3-400 having an electrician wire a 240VAC outlet in your garage. Even the lowly 6-20 (20 Amps) will get you 15 miles range per hour, which will be way more than enough for your commute (and is likely enough for anyone with a Model 3...

Confused about charging in off-peak hours

My Brotha. We, too, have a TM3 and a MINI SE! (Post in thread 'What did you name your Tesla?' What did you name your Tesla?) My charging matrix is further complicated by having two Gen 2 HPWCs connected and sharing a 60A circuit (although just barely so, because even when sharing the 48 Amps...

My wife's TM3 is Dorian (Grey). My MINI SE is Jessie (the SE).

Garage Issue: Need Charger Placement Advice

I actually considered that, but decided I'd rather the assembly swing back and forth, if something hooked the looped cable, than be rigid, rip out of the wall, and collapse on the car below. As it is, it moves around gracefully but returns to center.

    Need Advice for home charging

And a great way to use all 40 continuous Amps that a 14-50 will allow would be to to set your car to charge only between, say, 2200 and 0600. You'll likely not be simultaneously cooking, baking, and drying, and 8 hours at about 35 MRpH is over 250 miles of range added each night.
  18. F14Scott

    Short Term Home Charging Advice

Yes. That will be about 11 Miles Range per Hour (MRpH) added, which means a 12-hour overnight will add 132 miles to your "tank." Do you average more than that, per day?

Relocating to UK...what to do with my Tesla?

Is your move permanent, or a rotation? You might consider storing it or lending/subletting it, but both seem like pretty big headaches. What's Carvana offering you vice what did you pay for it?

    Phone key versus key fob

On the contrary, with my phone in my pocket, I often walk up to my wife's TM3 AWD to insert the connector nozzle for her, and the car stays asleep, even when I press the nozzle's button, unless I go half-action on the handle of the aft door.

Torn Between Dual Motor LR and Performance [resolved]

It was the taller suspension and hardier wheels, for us. We just knew that the 20" P wheels, with their little, exposed edges and the smaller, drawn-in sidewalls would get destroyed on our streets, and my wife HATES when the nose scrapes coming out of the driveway, even on the AWD, so the P...

Do people install 2 NEMA 14-50 outlets in one garage?

Same for me, except on a 60A circuit, so 24A to each when they share, or 48A to the Tesla alone and 32A to the MINI SE when it is alone (32A is its max draw). For the MINI, I use one of these and it works flawlessly:

How important is home charger really?

If you can get the HOA to do two things, you will be all set: 1. From that shed's panel, allow you to have an electrician install a 6-20 outlet on the outside of the shed, nearest your car's spot. 20A (16 continuous) at 240V will add 150+ miles to an M3, overnight. The outlet would really be...

Should I trade in my 2019 SR+ for the 2021?

Yes. When I totaled my wife's TM3, our payout was so high that we ended up making money when we bought a new one, e.g. the difference between a new one and the totaled cash was less than the sum of our monthly payments until then. We got a brand new car, reset the mileage clock, and ended up...

Should I trade in my 2019 SR+ for the 2021?

I did the Carvana website on Wednesday night and immediately got the offer. It then asked me to upload my DL, the title, and a pic of the odometer, which I completed Thursday morning. By Thursday afternoon, they verified whatever they needed to and were ready to set my appointment. I could have...

Frustration with Lack of Superchargers/CCS adapter

Worth it to Un-Install a Gen 2 charger when moving?

Since you have a Gen 2, if you want to load share at the new place (and it's a rely nice feature; I just started doing it with my wife's TM3+ and my brand new MINI Cooper SE (with a Tesla to J-1772 adapter)), you'll need a second Gen 2, and they'll need to be connected together with a...

Should I trade in my 2019 SR+ for the 2021?

I just sold a 2014 MINI Paceman all4 JCW to Carvana on Saturday and had the same experience. I think I paid $34K and Carvana cut me a check for $16.5K, very generous IMO: $17,500 for 6 years of ownership means I paid about $250 per month to own a very fun little hatchback. P.S. With the...

    Is my Model 3 totaled?

Here's my totaled TM3 AWD. I lost attention in a left hand turn, swung wide, and pranged both starboard wheels off the outside curb at about 35 MPH. It pulled hard to the right, but I drove it through a full left and right turn, parked it, and then drove it up on the tow truck. $24,000 first...

    15/20 spacers with 245/40-19 pics?

I just installed the 15/20mm spacers on stock 18 Aero wheels, but I have these 19x8 +40 wheels coming with 245/40 19 Michelin Pilot Sport 3 Plus aboard. I think the spacers with the 0.5" narrower wheels but the 10cm wider tires will give me, overall, a little more poke than stock and also...

    Tesla Charge Cable Handling Ideas?

We do better with her pulling straight in and backing straight out. That's all I'm going to say about that. Plus, I'm about to own a MINI Cooper SE with its charger receptacle at the starboard aft position, so if my Gen 2 HPWC on the opposite wall fails (I like backing in, myself), we can share...

    Requesting Blox Spacers Reviews/inputs

Just another data point for the Blox 15/20mm setup. I received my set, yesterday and installed them on my 2020 TM3 AWD with the stock 18" Aero wheels, with covers removed (not that the covers matter). They installed fast and easily, with perfect fitment and no hiccups. I used 103 ft-lbs on...

    Which charger do you recommend?

That was a much better post. I agree with most of what you said. My exceptions: I think it's a little hyperbolic to say non-Tesla owners will always be using the destination chargers. Most won't have the dongle. Those who do, like me, will hopefully be savvy enough to know to soak up just...

    Post your biggest F&*# ups

In August, I lost attention driving alone in my wife's M3 AWD, swung a left-hand turn too wide, and pranged both starboard wheels into the curb. Which charger do you recommend?

For those who object to non-Teslas using free Tesla destination chargers, do you feel the converse is true? Whole Foods, for instance, has free J-1772 chargers for their customers; other Tesla owners and I routinely charge there using the adapter supplied with the car.

    Which charger do you recommend?

    a) In your faulty analogy, you conveniently skipped the part about the hotelier saying it was OK. 2) My house has a 6' iron gate surrounding it, so good luck. D) I'm on PlugShare, so anytime you're around downtown Houston, give me a buzz and you'll get up to 11.5kW. for free.

    Which charger do you recommend?

I currently own a Model 3 AWD, and I will pick up my MINI Cooper SE this week. My garage holds two Gen 2 Tesla HPWCs on a 60 Amp breaker, wired together with the communication cable, so they will load share between the two cars when they each begin charging at 0100, each morning. I'm on a...

    Which charger do you recommend?

Just to add another data point: Using a charger, on a day-to-day basis, that is built for your car is convenient. Having adapters that connect your charger to other cars is, occasionally, handy. So, as a Tesla owner, I would get the Tesla HPWC (I like the Gen 2s because, among other reasons...
