    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

They are most likely not going to open up to something like this as it leads to tampering... Any commodity flash storage device could be soldered to the MCU, say a micro SD reader like we use on modern enterprise servers. This would make more sense from a servicing standpoint for sure but my...

    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

My exact words to SC when dropping off my failed MCU1... Can I pay to upgrade to MCU2? No... I am outside of the warranty so they are expecting me to pay and still drive off with an MCU1... Now maybe this will change a few months from now...we will see.

    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

I would stress to anyone experiencing the early signs of MCU failure and is handy to remove and send out their tegra for preventative replacement by a third party. It’s definitely an inconvenience for several days but beats waiting a month or longer without your vehicle. They were able to get...

    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

They don’t really care as these failures are typically outside the warranty period. So for them, continuing to release new features satisfies their customer base at the expense of the consumer...

    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

I didn’t want to tread into that territory with no manufacturer support and how heavily these cars rely on software updates but yes, for some this path would work.

    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

Too funny...about 5 months ago just a few weeks after my warranty expired the screen started to bubble...service tech says this is typical electronics and just cough up the $1k to replace. I asked what would happen if my MCU failed shortly after and they tried to tell me it’s extremely rare and...

    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

Has anyone compiled a list of these issues broken down by year and mileage? I would be happy to create a database and send a quick survey link. It would be helpful to have an independent database for these issues related to MCU...

    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

Did they goodwill this or what was the charge? My blinkers are not working at all I have tested this having my wife check while I am in the car. Only the hazards work. Can’t wait for Tesla to tell me tomorrow it’s going to cost $2500 to replace with another MCU1. Has anyone been able to get...

    NHTSA Investigates Failing MCUs

My MCU1 failed yesterday and now I have no blinkers. I’d say that’s definitely a safety issue!

Model S: DANGEROUS Retracting Door Handle !!!

There is absolutely no safety issue with the door handle design whatsoever. I have had multiple handles replaced and viewed the spring inside the handle. The spring isn’t even strong enough to pinch your finger let alone cut your finger. I did see someone posting about this same issue on a fb...

Both Screens Black After Entering - Come Back On After Brake

Well now it’s happening while the vehicle is plugged in so no improvements it’s actually worse. Also I typically start my day with 209rm after losing 3rm overnight. Today I am at 204rm so significant phantom draw overnight after this update.

Both Screens Black After Entering - Come Back On After Brake

After opening any of the doors the screens immediately cut off and turns black until the brake is pressed. The HVAC is also cut off as soon as the doors are opened. For example, if I enable HVAC from the mobile app and walk to the car I can hear the system running. As soon as I open any of the...

    Software Update 2019.16.x

I can confirm the Dolby Surround option is still reverted in this update :( it's the first thing I check after an update. Also, the option to enable is now under a new "settings" menu in the audio interface instead of the eql icon.

    Supercharger @ Daily Destination

First off - the whole concept of pay it forward and your using it when someone else needs it is simply not the case for Tesla supercharging stations. Typical charging stations I think it’s a totally different story. Tesla charges idle fees if the station is over 50% capacity - I don’t think...

    Supercharger @ Daily Destination

I would disagree regarding blocking a spot - Tesla charges idle fees so I would not be supercharging if there were more than 1-2 cars upon arrival. I think #2 is a big enough reason to avoid supercharging unless it’s needed if this is the case. I also have free supercharging.

    Supercharger @ Daily Destination

There is a supercharger right outside my new gym. Typically I charge every night to 90%. Would it be ok to plug in 3-5 times per week to charge from 50% to 90% or should I just park in a regular space :D

    MCU/Touchscreen Responsiveness

Tesla is realizing they have to start cutting off new features MCU1 can’t handle like the DashCam feature. Sure, there are no side cameras but it would be nice to be able to utilize the existing camera for this purpose. I’m sure this is just the beginning of future limitations for MCU1.

    MCU/Touchscreen Responsiveness

Agreed - I first noticed this when trying to show a friend how to plan a trip with superchargers. As soon as you zoom out it takes a while to load the map view on MCU1, in my experience MCU2 is about 5x faster for this task. It seems like opening the drawing app forces the system to clear RAM...

    MCU/Touchscreen Responsiveness

Yeah, the issue here is Tesla expects you to upgrade to a new Model S for all the new features but what happens in another 3 years, upgrade again? I thought part of the mission here was to build a vehicle that can outlast ICE vehicles. If that’s the case Tesla absolutely has to be actively...

    Steering Wheel Part Replacement

My 2015 70D wheel is peeling around the plastic areas (see image). Tesla says this is not a warranty issue and is due to some exposure to possibly detailing chemicals. Their quote to replace was $750. The bezels are available OEM online for $125. Has anyone replaced this part? This company...

    MCU/Touchscreen Responsiveness

Yeah. I think all they are concerned with at this point is new car sales vs supporting the existing base. Not a sustainable strategy for the long haul but what can you do.

    MCU/Touchscreen Responsiveness

Can’t compare this to an iPhone LOL it’s a $90,000 car not a $1,000 phone...or a $5,000 high end computer purchased 4 years ago for example. There has to be an upgrade path made available by Tesla at some point in the near future.

    MCU/Touchscreen Responsiveness

My touchscreen in my 2015 70D can be very slow to load maps and when zooming out to load the map. Additionally, the web browser only works for a short while after a hard reset then stops working. I’m in a 2018 75D rental from the SC and the touch screen is very responsive and the web browser...

Charging @ Home & Charging Before Driving in AM

Charging @ Home & Charging Before Driving in AM

Appreciate the insight on this. It seems the majority of folks scheduling charges is due to the financial benefits. Unfortunately in eastern Massachusetts we lost TOU a few years ago I believe. My rate is .30/kW which is pretty high from what I am reading.

    Model S 70D 19” to 20” or 21”
