    under 10,000 per year

Why not? AP makes perfect sense. On highway with heavy traffic, I don't want to drive in any car. The fun can begin after the traffic.

    SR Model 3 Discontinued?

Have you charged with superchargers? Wondering if the rate follows those charts: Updated Model 3 Charging Profiles & Durations, which should mean this battery is completely top locked, similar to Model S.
  3. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

Has anyone actually tested the charging rate on a limited SR? Really wondering if the battery is top or bottom locked or both.
  4. R

Charging 100% for Model 3 Standard

Yeah that's a good way to tell how it is limited. Anyone actually tried this on the SR? If confirmed on SR I can't see a reason for not downgrading.

[Mac] How to Format USB into 2 Partitions for DashCam and Music

Looks like Tesla should start selling such a flash stick on the website.

Commuting by Tesla is cheaper than public transport

Haha see you. Some people never understand that the car might be a fixed cost. Nobody factors in the house cost when considering whether it's cheaper to cook at home or go to restaurants: people buy/rent house anyways. Some people buy car anyways regardless of commuting or not. There is just an...

Commuting by Tesla is cheaper than public transport

Except that it's not a purchase (I don't know why a car becomes "life decision", maybe safety?) decision lol. It might be hard for you to understand but... Some people don't buy a car for commute. For me the "purchase decision" was already justified for weekend road trip etc utilities. I have...

Read the title again. May I know what "decisions" are you referring to being justified?

theory for hold up of locked SR battery

There is zero chance SR+ is quicker than LR RWD... But yeah a small improvement will convince me to stay on SR+ like the same 5.0s as LR RWD or premium connectivity.
  10. R

So apparently phone charging cables, 14-50 adapter, and J1772 are not included anymore

You might want to skip those cords and get a wireless charging pad if your phones support.

Commuting by Tesla is cheaper than public transport

Exactly, except that I never find a meaningful difference between low mileage and high ones. What is your estimate on the additional cost of driving a Model 3 300mi compared to 100mi every week?
  12. R

Commuting by Tesla is cheaper than public transport

Mileage based depreciation maybe. Insurance cost of driving more compared with driving less - I don't find a meaningful difference. Can you provide an example?
  13. R

Commuting by Tesla is cheaper than public transport

The OP (and I) ALREADY has/needs/wants a Tesla for the weekends. How does a Honda 1992 make any sense for the weekdays as it is going to incur an extra cost and takes my second garage space? How hard is it for you to understand the question: should I drive my ALREADY owned...

    Tesla Model 3 Standard Range

Do you have something to back up that they are doing it differently this time? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me as the disabled part can degrade and won't be able to upgrade later. Another thing is charging speed. A physical 220mi will charge slower than 240mi, but a software one will have the...

Commuting by Tesla is cheaper than public transport

You completely miss the point of the discussion. It's "should I drive to work or take public transportation if I already have a Tesla?" or "if I'm going to buy a Tesla?" I actually had the same thinking. Didn't consider Audi etc at all. This is indeed a comparison beteeen Tesla and public...

Commuting by Tesla is cheaper than public transport

If one already has/will buy a Tesla/similar luxury car anyway, this is actually a valid argument.
  17. R

    Tesla Model 3 Standard Range

Only if the battery is actually different. I don't charge to 100% even on road trips. With a software locked battery I will.

Buy Model 3 with intent to trade for Model Y - is this crazy?

Should be $44500. Full premium specs. Looks like Tesla's RWD with winter tire is very good on snow, tho of course AWD will be even better.
  20. R

Buy Model 3 with intent to trade for Model Y - is this crazy?

Exactly! If Tesla doesn't have confidence in their network I can't either. 60% residual isn't uncommon in the industry and if they have that, there can be much more owners and also a lot credibility to their network.
  21. R

Buy Model 3 with intent to trade for Model Y - is this crazy?

SR+ doesn't have music streaming service or live traffic updates either. And assuming SR is limiting all cells to 90%... That's basically equivalent to SR+. To protect the battery, I can't imagine myself charging SR+ to 100% except in the most rare cases, while will do often on SR. If it's just...

Show off FSD by running a Roadster around Laguna Seca autonomously

I think it's actually a very good selling point if it can drive me around Laguna Seca, likely faster and safer than any human driver. I will never be skillful enough to drive on a track fast, but certainly want to experience it, in my own car and technically in the driver's seat ;)

If you won the Founder Series Roadster, would you keep it?

I'm wondering how does the actual cost compare to a Model S.

EXPERIENCE: 2400 miles trip Model 3 SR Plus

Why not use ABetterRoutePlanner to check superchargers, elevation, loss in cold weather, etc on those routes first? Regarding Supercharger availability, looks like Tesla shut down the public interfaces, so you might need to ask an owner around you to check the live usage status in car during...

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

No. TLDR: Tesla offered a downgrade but haven't proceeded for anyone. Awaiting details. Well, maybe similar to the PUP refund.
  28. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

I need to test it out myself but I've heard regen, depending on temp, can be limited starting at 85% or even lower. So the question here is whether SR is now limited at around 10% higher, like 95%. The 100% charging warning doesn't mean anything I think.
  29. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

I doubt I will enjoy that 20 miles at all. I won't charge to 100% unless I'm on a snow/mountain trip without any superchargers, preparing to be towed. (And why am I doing such a trip in the first place?) With SR software lock I will charge to 100% on all trips.

Standard Interior+ No carpet floormats or Frunk mat

Has anyone installed all weather frunk mat or lower trunk storage mat into SR/SR+? Existing options don't seem to work on the bare plastic SR frunk. I tried https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D61X9B9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but it comes with back side mat anchors. The...

EXPERIENCE: 2400 miles trip Model 3 SR Plus

I put Roadster there and the charging time is 6h43m. So looks like LR RWD is close to be able to optimally using the Supercharger network.
  33. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

That heated front seat is a bit surprising. Isn't it something never promised in SR and easily disabled in software? Another reason to downgrade I guess.
  34. R

EXPERIENCE: 2400 miles trip Model 3 SR Plus

Wow that's a really huge difference! Though with eating/shopping and destination chargers (charging to 100% with no time cost) along the way I think the difference won't be that big. I have an SR+ commuter but never planned to use it as a go anywhere car or do any >500mi road trip. I'm looking...
  35. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

"Better" means strictly the difference. They tried to upsell SR into SR+. You can't upsell, no matter how good SR+ is, unless there is a significant difference. Tesla knew at that time the difference is purely made up as well. That is the ignoble part.
  36. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

It is a noble movement because it discourages Tesla's ig-noble movement. Tesla could have concealed SR until it is production ready. Instead, they put up a random "SR" option out of nowhere to bait customers, upsell them into SR+ bacause it is "better", and ultimately failed to even deliver on...
  37. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

If Ticketmaster specifically said that guy's cheaper ticket is not for that area... And later changed mind and agreed to refund mine... Not sure if you are starting to get it. Anyway, there is absolutely no "demanding" a refund. That what Tesla offered for their change of plan.

CA EV Rebate - Income limitations on last or current year?

I'm talking about the HOV sticker. Not aware of any restrictions.
  39. R

CA EV Rebate - Income limitations on last or current year?

I didn't request sticker because purple is too ugly and I can get full 4 years if I apply next Jan. Other than that, I think anyone is eligible regardless of income or rebate.
  40. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

Oh. However it's often not exactly 440mi. For example if the trip is 340mi, no Model 3 has an advantage over others in required charging stops. (Except that LR charges faster) A quick math shows that if the trip is anywhere between 0 - 500mi, SR+ saves 0.12 stops over SR on average, and LR RWD...
  41. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

Wondering how do you save 10 minutes with the extra 20mi?
  42. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

Originally just want to support the company and not taking delivery soon. No support any more if they can't figure those out and essentially lie to the customers, first time about (Partial) Premium interior and second time about downgrade option.
  43. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

Of course they can't software limit to a cloth seat. But seat heater, speakers, and acceleration? They are very easy to limit and not in the original SR spec sheet at all.
  44. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

So does anyone have any idea about whether it is 5.3s or 5.6s 0-60mph on SR? It seems really weird to me that they put heated front seats, all Plus speakers, and potentially 5.3s into SR (which are NEVER promised and easily software disabled!), annoying all customers that paid more. Makes no...

Tesla not honoring price on LR RWD M3

Every single brand changes price monthly (through dealer rebate etc). But yeah, they communicate the discounts better internally, unlike Tesla.
  46. R

Downgrade SR+ and get $2000 back?

Maybe because SR was unavailable? Or because of seat material, center console, speakers, power adjustability, white interior, or "natively" (i.e. full capacity before software lock) 240mi battery? All of them are now standard on SR. ALL of them.
  47. R

actual price of SR (non-plus) version after recent news?

Good choice. So Tesla lost $3K instead of $500 without cutting any cost lol. They seems strict about those. One day after 3/21 I just range panicked and asked to upgrade my pre-3/21 SR+ order to LR but they insist I need to pay $7500 ($44500 - $37000) instead of original difference of $6000. I...

AP price drop also applies for free trial

During the trial I feel like I'm supervising a teenager learning to drive. It is indeed very convenient in normal cases but the mental stress on predicting whether it will handle the next complicated situation is a bit too much. Maybe worth $1000 to me.
  49. R

AP price drop also applies for free trial

Correct. You only get Autosteer and Adaptive Cruise Control. Not even Lane Change.

Owners with No AP - Thoughts/Plans/Speculation on What Happens Next

Still looks like internal miscommunication, and a mistake that they have to honor. It makes zero business sense to give away AP.
