Blog Report: Model 3 Inspired Compact Hatchback Planned for Europe

I have never understood people on this site hassling others for wanting a tweak, a feature or, in this case, an affordable hatchback. What skin is it on your back if you wouldn’t want such a thing to let others speak of their support?!? If you’re not interested, why do you imagine anyone cares?

I totally agree. Where am. Supposed to put my dogs, on the white pleather?

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

That really doesn’t explain the defensive, aggressive nastiness of some of the replies I got. I LOVE this tweak that Tesla made. I feel badly that there are people who would never feel safe leaving their cars unlocked even in their own garage. But for those same people to think, “Because I...

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

I’d been wondering the same thing since I made the OP. Such antagonism in defense of their god Elon. Sycophants you think?

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

I can’t say how excited I am that Tesla finally added the missing feature to exclude a home location from the walk away lock function, as I can with Sentry mode. And I’m sorry that there are so many who live in areas where they can’t even leave their car in their own garage, without fear of...

AND, they're walking on the wrong side of the road! Were you driving or in self drive mode? Because, if it was all you, great reflex!

Orange Peel Texture on Red Paint

Either I didn't notice when I took delivery or it has just become increasingly obvious. My M3 has a very textured appearance in the paint job. Anybody else notice this? It's hard to capture it directly, but you can really tell by the distortion in the reflected image.

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

It turns out you're right! My son is a cyber security specialist and does a lot of programming. He said writing a code to exclude certain locations from the walk away lock function (as they did for Sentry Mode recently) is a couple minutes work tops and über easy. Maybe Tesla should hire him?

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

Stellavator, thank you SO much for your analogy. You defined what I simply could not understand when I read some of the responses I got! For some reason, I stopped getting notified of posts to this thread (perhaps a blessing?), but when I saw the new Sentry Mode update allowing location...

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

Remembering to grab a card would be the same to me as remembering to grab my phone when I return to my car to unload more things. I've just disabled the function altogether for now.

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

While I'm walking away from my car, I fish my phone out of my purse, open the app on my phone and tap the lock icon. It usually takes more like 5 seconds for the app to engage.

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

It solves the issue of my car locking automatically, but not the need to be having to use my phone all the time. My thinking when I purchased the vehicle was that if the phone thing became too cumbersome, I'd get the fob. But I didn't realize that the fob was old school and that you have to...

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

I don't have a garage, but thanks for the suggestion anyway! I've disabled the function until it's more flexible and am locking my car manually when needed.

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

Gtoovidad, Thanks for asking! I am somewhat disappointed, yes, but would probably make the same decision. I did loads of research as I've been driving EVs exclusively for more than 5 years (this is my 4th vehicle) and have a lot of experience with them. I love the way it drives, the safe...

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

Ummmm, no, NOT shocked that it doesn't unlock without my phone, and never said so. So sad that there are people on this website who do not read carefully, or offer constructive solutions to legitimate issues that others may have, but instead choose to bash and insult. No idea what the...

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

I paid $60k+ for my car, I should be entitled to 2005 era technology. Don't even get me started on the aruto wiper function being worse than useless because it's dangerous.

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

I do NOT carry my phone on me when I'm at home, so I go out to my car and then remember that it locked on me (which, like the guy in Canada, I NEVER need in my own driveway) and have to go back into my house to get my phone. It's amazing to me that people can't think outside their own box...

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

I work to avoid having my phone with me at all times. Anyway, whether I'm an anomaly or not, it's an easy program tweak and they should fix it since they didn't give M3 a decent fob and touch lock on the door.

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

Never had this problem with any car in at least 10 years because keyless entry has been around for SUCH a long time. I'm used to cars that lock if you're outside it with the fob and tap the door handle. Loads of cars have had this for years. It's fast and efficient, but also way more...

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

I absolutely do NOT want my car locked at home, period. If someone parks in an area where they have to worry about break-ins, then they don't have to care about this restrictive function. But many, if not most people have garages, and I live in a rural area where the only thing I'd worry about...

Walkaway lock at home ... I don’t want it

Is it too much to ask of Tesla Engineers to allow a modicum of programability to the walkaway lock function on the Tesla App? Tesla didn't give the M3 an option for a smart fob. You straight up have to fish out old school the one you can purchase for $150 and tap a button to lock/unlock. What...

Some Sentry Mode files not opening in QuickTime Player

I'm going through a bunch of files on my USB storage device because I've been getting numerous "event occurred" messages when I return to my car. Some open without issue , but on some, I get the attached message when I try to open the file on my Mac:

    Screen burning hot

The S screen is fully integrated, so the comparison isn't really useful. Plus, the screen on the S is not used for nearly as many functions as is needed for the M3, since there are virtually no controls elsewhere, save the very few on the steering wheel.
  26. E

    Portrait vs Landscape Center Screen

I had heard from a very well informed friend that the screen doesn’t tilt toward the driver (as the dash-integrated screens in every other car do) because the original and main purpose of the M3 was mainly to be a self driving taxi. Access to the screen is therefore equally “convenient” for...

Free unlimited supercharging vs (paying for) installing charger at home...

It's not expensive to buy a different charging station that's not Tesla specific. Other people who have EVs that are not Tesla can use, and you just have to put on the adaptor. I have one from my first EV; it's not terribly fast, but it sure beats the trickle charge you get just plugging into...

Walk-away lock doesn't work if u open door w/foot on the brake

I was actually told by Tesla service last week that keeping the foot on the brake after I park might be why my M3 doesn't always turn off on walk away after their enginees studied several time stamps I sent them of this problem occurring with my car; it has been a frequent glitch since I got it...

Walk-away lock doesn't work if u open door w/foot on the brake

I have wondered why the Tesla engineers haven't figured out a way to let you program the car for "don't lock @ home." I go out to my car all the time, and absolutely HATE that I have to unlock it or have my phone with me when I go out there. Should be a fairly simple thing.

    Rear Camera Fail

Thanks, but this is a problem of delay in the camera working. My post has to do with occasional failure of the rear camera to deploy in R AT ALL, including me getting out of the car and opening and closing the trunk to see if something is occluding the camera lens, putting the car in D and back...

    Rear Camera Fail

Has anyone else put the car into reverse and gotten a black screen with the white tire track lines (see photo)? This has happened to me several times and toggling through other gears doesn’t solve the problem.

    Screen burning hot

Yes! And I’ve reported this several times to my service people, but since it’s usually along with a whole host of technical issues, it has never been addressed specifically. It happens randomly, while driving, while parked (especially with sentry mode activated?), etc ... The back of the screen...

My car was 94 degrees inside and it is still only spring!

The interior color doesn’t impact the temperature to any measurable degree compared to the exterior color. I researched this before I ordered because I have no garage and live in California. Black, blue and gray exteriors absorb the most sun. White, yellow and red reflect the sun. Since I like...

Poll: Model 3 Phone Key Failure Rate

I also have problems with the walk away lock feature not working about 10% of the time, and the car not recognizing bluetooth when I walk up to it to unlock it with a little less frequency. Sometimes I have to toggle bluetooth on and off to get the car to unlock or lock for me. And I'm using a...

window keeps coming down when trying to go up?

I had this problem today for the first time; when I got in my car and wanted to roll up the window, it went down instead of up. Second try, it went up 1/3 of the way and then down again! By the 3rd try, it worked. I think they told me that when you first get in the car, it takes a bit of time...

    Model 3 - Feature Issues

The auto setting for the wipers is worse than useless. Considering that you have to keep looking at the center of the screen every time you manually change the speed of the wipers without having a working auto setting, it's a class action suit waiting to happen. Auto wipers is old technology...
