    Peeling yoke replacement

The buttons should feel identical. Any differences you feel are variances in manufacturing tolerances. My first mechanical-horn yoke replacement was nearly impossible to activate the turn signals on, and my current one feels identical to the 2021 and 2022 Plaids I've had. Also, the worm is still...

    Yoke peeling

I've been driving a Plaid for 3 years, and have no idea what random dimming behavior you're referring to. Maybe your last yoke was defective?

"Refreshed" Model S model VIBRATION tracking and information thread!!!

Yeah… no, alas. It’s reduced by I’d say 75% overall? Some days are better than others. Most of the time I really don’t notice it but there are specific roads at specific inclines that I know I’ll feel it on before I even head up them.

Why would you sell the links? The car hasn’t changed… 😞

"Refreshed" Model S model VIBRATION tracking and information thread!!!

It’s not gone. It is greatly reduced with the 2023.44 update for most, but it will never be gone, it seems. If you’re going up inclines at a constant 35-50mph or thereabouts you’ll feel it more than on flat. It is the way it is. If you want a 100% smooth drivetrain you don’t buy a Model S. It’s...

    Yeah wouldn’t be surprised.

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

I’m not convinced by this at all. And I don’t think that startup vibration is meaningful in any way when it comes to acceleration.

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

That pricing back in 2021 for the S and S Plaid made no sense. It’s a different car landscape now.

2022 MS - Third Brake Light Out

I gotta say that's actually pretty generous. I'd never expect Tesla to cover the re-tint process. Nice that they did here.

Center horn retrofit for Model S

If the yoke had steer by wire, it would be a step forward, as you'd have the excellent dash and windshield visibility of the yoke, and none of the downsides there currently are. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with the yoke since being so tall the steering wheel retrofit really blocks a portion of the...

2021 Model S Plaid Steering Yoke shaking at highway speeds

My 21” OEM wheels with OEM summers vibrated at 80mph and above. My 19” OEM with OEM winters vibrate at 80mph and above. I just put on some new 19” forged monoblock wheels with Pirelli OEM summer tires, with friction lock, - and the vibration is 90% gone. I don’t even notice it now unless I fully...

Yes. 2 years later I still yelled today when gunning it at 40mph. It’s otherworldly.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Absolutely. There have been some improvements to the 3, but in my humble opinion that's mostly down to materials quality and also how much more quiet it is. The LED ambient lighting is... well... rubbish. It's not even ambient, - it's direct, and it's ugly, and reflects off the windshield and is...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I test drove the new 3, and the suspension isn't in the same league as the Model S. It positively crashes over bumps that the S soaks up much more readily.

Let me rephrase that one second slower bit… The LR is 50% slower to 60. Yeah. Hits different, doesn’t it?

The Plaid is what makes the S really special. Otherwise there are plenty of other choices with nice interiors, better build quality etc.

No joke. At least when the car has any number of annoying issues you can fall back on that right pedal as a Forgive-Everything button.

Yep. Nothing was nerfed. Just low throttle maps more to the rear, exactly.

Thanks for the example. I wonder how that would look on a really bad curb, hah!

Thanks for the info. Do you have any examples of a third-party refinished triple black tinted wheel? I'm wondering what a wheel can look like after it's been e.g. curbed and subsequently repaired. You mention "touch up" in your post a few back, but what are you meant to touch up with?
  21. WilliamG

"Refreshed" Model S model VIBRATION tracking and information thread!!!

I really wouldn't overthink it. With the 2023.44 update, Tesla tweaked the motor output to, for the most part, mitigate the vibration in the 35-50mph range. Is it 100% gone? Nope. Would people make a big fuss about it today? Probably not, for the most part. I also don't think it's anything to do...

Never confirmed that this is the case. Remember my S didn’t exhibit the vibration issue for 1400 miles.

It’s standard to put that line in. You can always request mobile service if applicable in your area.

    Tesla releases New Yoke

Yep. There were a few reported stuff turn signal replacements. My service center said they’d had a few complaints when I had mine replaced again. You’ll know right away and my replacement really has been perfect.

My first did. I got a replacement and it’s fine. If you can switch for free, do it.

Can the SV104 triple black tinted be refinished if one gets damaged, say by FSD being insane and loving curbs?

Center horn retrofit for Model S

I'm just saying I would not risk it. That's my bottom-line response. I don't doubt these airbags are exactly the same. Well, actually I do. I'm 99% sure they're the same, but the 1% is too much of a factor that it would bother me daily. To each, of course.
  28. WilliamG

Center horn retrofit for Model S

We also don’t know if this interfaces correctly with the car for proper airbag release. I wouldn’t risk this at all if it were me.

Is the glass distortion still a problem for ‘24 model

I’m telling you they are ALL like this. You’re 1000% wasting your time asking for a replacement.
  30. WilliamG

Is the glass distortion still a problem for ‘24 model

Nope. No offense meant (truly), but you just don't see it. Don't go looking for it. This is in regard to windshield and rear glass. The side glass? My 2021 refresh was AWFUL in that regard, in terms of weird barrel distortion etc, but my 2022 refresh has none of that.

    Review of new MSLR

Yup. And 1 and 3 are normal (or should I say, these cars all feature these issues). Coming from a 3 to an S the seating position is much higher in the S.
  32. WilliamG

Who is waiting on the 2024 changes to order a Plaid?

The interior of the new 3 isn't in the same league as the interior of the S. Very plastic-y by comparison. It's interesting how we perceive quality, as humans, so differently. I was so glad to go back to my S after demoing the new 3.

Those seats look awesome. A bit jelly, to be honest!

Thicker? I really don’t think it is. New horn, yes. Higher quality? Well… my first new one was defective so… the jury is out.

    Plaid 19 vs 21

160? 160 down to what speed? Why did you need to hard brake from 160 anyway on public roads? And some of our cars see nearly triple 60 on a regular basis? Where? The track? In that case, definitely - new pads/brakes. But for the street, for normal driving with occasional misbehavior, the stocks...
  36. WilliamG

    Plaid 19 vs 21

The bolded sentence is simply not true. You can't do repeated hard stops from extralegal speeds, but yeah... anyway - nonsense (don't ask me how I know).
  37. WilliamG

    Tesla releases New Yoke

Has that been proven? I mean there’s no question it feels different and the stitching is different, but I don’t know in terms of makeup how different it is.
  38. WilliamG

    Tesla releases New Yoke

As a reminder, if your replacement, new yokes have stiff/hard-to-press turn signals, get another replacement. That's what I had to do. The new, new one has been great.

    About Insurance Rates

Just got a quote from USAA and it's twice the price of Progressive for me. And Progressive keeps going up, so... who even knows what my next billing period will be. Sigh.

Yep. The only lingering question is why the first-year 2021 refresh doesn't have it, but the 2022 and on does.

    Model S 2021 - Rear window distortion

Every single refresh Model S has this, including my 2021 S Plaid and my 2022 S Plaid. That windshield ripple is on both sides, but you'll only tend to notice it diagonally from you, so the passenger will see it on your side, and vice versa. The rear window distortion at the bottom is annoying...

To be fair, panel gaps belong in a delivery thread, because... you take delivery/notice these things as you take delivery/don't take delivery because of excessive panel gaps etc. Also, HINGES ARE IMPORTANT, HOW DARE YOU.
